Former first lady Melania Trump appeared to discuss her views on women's rights Thursday in a video on X, one day after publication of an excerpt from her coming memoir in which she reportedly takes a strong stance in support of abortion rights. The Guardian reported Wednesday that Trump defends abortion rights in her memoir, scheduled for release Tuesday. Reached for comment about the former first lady's views on abortion, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung pointed to Donald Trump's remarks in the interview. Abortion is not the source of their freedom and liberation.”The former first lady's new position also prompted backlash from reproductive rights groups, which pointed to Donald Trump's record on abortion. In today’s edition, we examine how Donald Trump is making baseless claims of "election interference" as he faces federal charges himself. Trump casts 'election interference' label on everything while facing federal chargesFormer President Donald Trump has never stopped propagating falsehoods that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. This year, Trump and his campaign have cited more than a dozen examples of so-called election interference activities by Americans to claim the coming election is being unfairly manipulated. The latest instance came after the judge overseeing his federal election interference case in Washington released a redacted filing from special counsel Jack Smith. “The Democrat Party is guilty of the Worst Election Interference in American History,” Trump wrote Wednesday on social media.

A new court filing from special counsel Jack Smith argues Donald Trump acted as a private citizen when he sought to overturn the 2020 election. It includes new details about Trump’s actions after the 2020 election and leading up to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, including testimony detailing Trump’s conversations with former Vice President Mike Pence. New York CNN —Tesla is recalling roughly 27,000 Cybertrucks because of a rearview camera issue that delays the image being displayed on the dashboard, increasing the risk of a crash. The rearview display might appear blank for up to 8 seconds when the Cybertruck is put in reverse, according to a filing from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Tesla has released a free, over-the-air software update to fix the issue. In January, Tesla issued a software recall for 2.2 million of its vehicles, including Cybertrucks, because letters on warning lights were too small to easily read. Tesla this week reported an increase in sales for the first time this year, although its year-to-date sales still trail the same period in 2023.

WASHINGTON — During Donald Trump’s White House tenure, Republicans assembled the most conservative Supreme Court in a century. Now, they’re excited about the prospect of building on those efforts by confirming even more conservative justices, as well as lower-court judges, if he wins another four years. Two long-serving conservative justices will be on retirement watch in the coming years: Clarence Thomas, 76, and Samuel Alito, 74. It takes 51 votes to confirm a Supreme Court justice, so in that scenario Republicans would have the power to replace them without any input from Democrats. On the campaign trail, Harris hasn’t said much about the prospect of Supreme Court vacancies under the next president.

Despite dovish comments from Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba leading to a sharp plunge in the yen , market analysts aren't budging from their Bank of Japan policy expectations for the longer term. The yen slid to as weak as 147.15 against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday, after Ishiba told reporters that the current economic climate does not require an additional rate increase. The prime minister's comments marked a drastic change in tone compared with the messaging on his recent campaign trail. On Thursday morning, BOJ board member Asahi Noguchi said that the central bank should continue its accommodative monetary policy for the time being. He noted that it will take a while to change the public's perception that prices will not increase significantly in the future.

According to the US Press Freedom Tracker, assaults on journalists in the US have soared by more than 50% in 2024 compared to last year.
