She loves being active and has found her closest friends through her running group. "It was difficult finding friends, and I didn't know how to make friends," Arguelles told Business Insider. But when she saw a flyer for a running group that was raising money to fight leukemia, she decided to join — and ended up running her first marathon at the age of 60. "I started making friends in that running group, and those friends became a very tight community," Arguelles said.

After traveling to 59 US national parks, a few stand out more than others. Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming tops my list of the most beautiful landscapes in the country. A year later, Coca-Cola made a major change when it took out Sprite bottles’ green PET, which was an additive that was difficult to recycle into new bottles. Here's what the new Coca-Cola bottles look like. However, the label and caps will not be made from 100% recycled plastic. Companies like Coca-Cola have been making more environmentally packaging as consumer awareness and demand for action has intensified in recent years. Coca-Cola’s Smartwater brand also plans to introduce bottles made with 100% recycled plastic in New York and California later this year.

Cruise ships have hidden features that many passengers, particularly first-timers, don’t know about. Here are five things that cruisers may not know about cruise ships:There’s a morgue …Cruise ships carry millions of passengers each year, and it is not uncommon for deaths to occur on board. Most vessels are required to have a morgue and additional body bags in the event of an emergency. The morgue, usually a small stainless steel refrigerated room on the ship’s lowest deck, accommodates between two to 10 bodies, depending on the size of the vessel. …and a jailThere are no police officers on cruise ships, but most vessels have small jails known as the brig, and unruly passengers could find themselves locked up if the ship’s security team determines that they have violated the cruise line’s code of conduct.

Where the Wild Things Went During the Pandemic

But a new global study, which used wildlife cameras to track human and animal activity during the Covid lockdowns, suggests that the story was not that simple. “We went in with a somewhat simplistic notion,” said Cole Burton, a wildlife ecologist and conservation biologist at the University of British Columbia, who led the research. “You know, humans stop, animals are going to breathe a sigh of relief and move around more naturally. And there was enormous variability in how wild mammals responded to changes in human behavior. It also highlights the nuanced ways in which humans affect the lives of wild animals, as well as the need for varied and multifaceted conservation efforts, the authors said.

CNN —California will soon be decorated with a rainbow of wildflowers after drenching winter rain set the stage for a spectacular spring superbloom. The phenomenon isn’t unique to California; wildflowers can paint parched desert landscapes, mountains and grasslands in Arizona and Nevada, too, but some of the most dense and therefore spectacular displays are found in Southern California. Desert sand verbena and dune evening primrose wildflowers bloom in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park's Coyote Canyon on Thursday, March 14. “We don’t know as of yet if it’s going to be a good year for the poppies, given the rain,” Turner cautioned.

Giant sequoias are thriving in the UK, scientists say. But that's in part down to their youth, with the oldest giant sequoia in the UK dating to 1863, UCL said in its report. By contrast, the oldest known giant sequoia in the US reached 3,266 years old, according to the National Park Service. These huge sheep, sold for up to $10,000 each, fetched higher prices in the game market. AdvertisementA Montana rancher, who pleaded guilty to two wildlife-related felonies, tried to illegally breed a "giant hybrid sheep" species for higher returns in the hunting market, the Justice Department said. Schubarth bred his offshoot species from a single male argali sheep he kept at his ranch and called the "Montana Mountain King," prosecutors said. The rancher brought the "Montana Mountain King" to his property in Montana despite knowing he was breaking state animal trafficking laws, per court documents. He then extracted semen from the "Montana Mountain King," using it to inseminate dozens of ewes of different species, prosecutors said.

President Joe Biden this month made climate jobs a major focus of his reelection bid. The administration plans to launch the American Climate Corps this summer with about 20,000 workers, but the funding is pieced together from various federal agencies. These prospective voters are also the target hires for the American Climate Corps, which will focus on reducing greenhouse-gas pollution in local communities and making them more resilient to extreme weather. Stevie O'Hanlon, a spokesperson for the Sunrise Movement, which mobilizes young voters focused on the climate, said the launch of the American Climate Corps was a big win. But the chances of Congress approving more funding for the workforce program are slim, given that House Republicans last year tried to block any federal spending for the American Climate Corps.

We booked one of Disney World's most affordable hotels. Carly CaramannaI've stayed at every Disney World hotel, and to keep within budget for this trip, we stayed at my favorite affordable resort, Wyndham Lake Buena Vista. Even though it's one of the cheapest Disney World hotels, I found it to offer a complete resort experience, like on-site dining, bars, a coffee shop, and an expansive pool complex. As an official Disney World hotel, our stay came with free transportation to the theme parks, which saved us money on costly ride-share services. We booked three rooms to share for two nights, and each night only cost about $100.
