Prepare to be hounded with appointment reminders by phone. But now, medical practices are flooding patients with reminders of upcoming appointments — and warnings of cancellation penalties. The financial pressure for medical practices to keep patients from ghosting them is a major factor. But the notifications are getting worse because new software systems enabled medical providers to send automated messages to patients. The more reminders providers send, Kharraz said, the more patients tune them out.

CNN —The public absence of Catherine, Princess of Wales, has grown from a niche royal watcher concern to an international punchline in a matter of weeks. Droves of amateur detectives have crafted timelines and deep dives into the princess’ movements over the last few months, combining real concern with outlandish conspiracy. The uproar, the theories, the analyses, the jokes and, yes, the serious concern — they all show the multitude of ways people interact with and view the royal family. “Not [the royal family] specifically, just anyone in that kind of position.”Catherine, Princess Of Wales is seen during the opening of Evelina London's new children's day surgery unit on December 5, 2023 in London, England. Home Depot said Thursday that it will open four new distribution centers as it chases more sales from remodelers, contractors and other home professionals. Each facility averages approximately 500,000 square feet — about five times the size of the average Home Depot store. That gives Home Depot a lot of room to grow as it adds capabilities to handle pros' entire orders, he said. Home Depot is changing other aspects of its business to support pros who handle complex and pricey projects. He said Home Depot is trying to bring to the pro business what it once did to DIY — turn itself into a one-stop shop.

Researchers have exposed a potential security vulnerability in Meta's VR headsets, a new study says. The so-called "inception attack" allows an attacker to spy on and control a user's VR environment. The headset also had to be in developer mode, which the researchers said many Meta Quest users keep enabled in order to get third-party apps, adjust resolution, and take screenshots. Researchers created cloned versions of the Meta Quest Browser and VRChat app. AdvertisementTo test the inception attack process with real people, researchers had 27 study participants interact with VR headsets while they carried out the attack.

Archaeologists have recovered 90,000 stone tools from the site, which lies close to Ukraine’s southwestern border with Hungary and Romania. Some 90,000 stone tools made by early humans have been found at the site but no human fossils. Garba‘s colleagues measured two nuclides, aluminum-26 and beryllium-10, found in quartz grains from seven pebbles discovered in the same layer as the stone tools. The earliest human fossils unearthed in Europe are from the Atapuerca site in Spain and date back 1.1 million years, according to the study. Korolevo would have been appealing to ancient humans because it’s near the Tisza River, which leads to the Danube, and there was a readily available source of hard rock to knap stone tools, Garba said.

Toddlers who are exposed to more screen time have fewer conversations with their parents or caregivers by an array of measures. They say less, hear less and have fewer back-and-forth exchanges with adults compared with children who spend less time in front of screens. Researchers have long known that growing up in a language-rich environment is vital for early language development. More language exposure early in life is associated with social development, higher I.Q.s and even better brain function. The new study, led by Mary E. Brushe, a researcher at the Telethon Kids Institute at the University of Western Australia, gathered data from 220 families across South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland with children who were born in 2017.

China’s premier will no longer hold a news conference after the country’s annual legislative meeting, Beijing announced on Monday, ending a three-decades-long practice that had been an exceedingly rare opportunity for journalists to interact with top Chinese leaders. It also reinforced how China’s top leader, Xi Jinping, has consolidated power, relegating all other officials, including the premier — the country’s No. 2, who oversees government ministries — to much less visible roles. China’s current premier, Li Qiang, was widely considered to have been elevated to the role last year because of his loyalty to Mr. Xi. “Barring any special circumstances, there will not be a premier’s news conference in the next few years after this year’s legislative session either,” Lou Qinjian, a spokesman for the legislature, said at a news briefing about this year’s session.

Those changes are some of the most visible shifts that Microsoft, Apple, Google, Meta and others are making in response to a wave of new regulations and laws around the world. In the United States, some of the tech behemoths have said they will abandon practices that are the subject of federal antitrust investigations. “This is a turning point,” said Margrethe Vestager, the European Commission executive vice president in Brussels, who spent much of the past decade battling with tech giants.
