This was my first night in the country, and it was also my very first tasting menu. He said 90% of the restaurant's ingredients are locally sourced, which means the menu changes throughout the year to highlight peak produce. The tasting menu was a great way to solve this dilemma. Plus, a tasting menu took the stress out of ordering. I'll admit that not every course on Intimo's tasting menu catered to my preferences; next time, I'll order the bass in Caribbean curry over the guacho.

To me, one unexpected food is at the top of the list of traditional ingredients: honey. On Ikaria, it's considered one of the island's secret ingredients for longevity, and many Ikarians start their day with a spoonful. When I'm in the States, I shop for Greek honey either in local Greek and Middle Eastern food stores or online. I stir it into herbal, green and black teas and use it a lot in smoothies with Greek yogurt. Sometimes I mix a spoonful of Greek honey into a little sparkling water and add some mint or citrus slices for a refreshing homemade soda.

Morgan Spurlock in town talking to the Herald's Tenley Woodman about his new movie. Documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, an Oscar nominee whose most famous work skewered American food and diets and who notably ate only at McDonald's for a month to illustrate the dangers of a fast-food diet, has died. Spurlock made a splash in 2004 with his groundbreaking film "Super Size Me," which was nominated for an Academy Award. The film chronicled the detrimental physical and psychological effects of Spurlock eating only McDonald's food for 30 days. He returned in 2019 with "Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken!"

A doctor said healthy food plans can help address high healthcare costs and chronic illness rates. Providing personalized recommendations for healthy food — along with information on how to prepare it and the resources to afford it — is fast becoming a trend in preventive healthcare. Healthy food can be hard to access and may not always fit the culinary traditions and eating habits people grew up with. "People think that a healthy diet has to cost more, a lot of the staples of a healthy diet are very inexpensive," he said. Cruciferous veggies are some of the most nutritious foods because they're high in antioxidants, which may help protect against cancer.

In his article for a 1945 issue of The Journal of Farm Economics, he settled on just five foods based on their August 1939 prices, in these quantities per year: 370 pounds of wheat flour, 57 cans of evaporated milk, 111 pounds of cabbage, 23 pounds of spinach and 285 pounds of dried navy beans. Stigler hastened to say that this was purely an academic exercise, not a diet recommendation. “It would be the height of absurdity to practice extreme economy at the dinner table in order to have an excess of housing or recreation or leisure,” he wrote. Still, I thought of the Stigler diet this week when the news came out that Red Lobster, the seafood restaurant chain, had cracked under pressure and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. One source of its problems — not the biggest, but the easiest for customers to grasp — was an every-day-all-you-can-eat shrimp promotion last year that got too popular and was a key reason for an $11 million quarterly operating loss.

Nestle is launching a new frozen-food brand, Vital Pursuit, aimed at the growing market of consumers who are using GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy. In October, Walmart's U.S. CEO John Furner told Bloomberg that people who pick up GLP-1 drugs from its pharmacies are buying less food, typically with fewer calories. But Nestle sees an opportunity to cater to those consumers through Vital Pursuit. Vital Pursuit's packaging won't include mentions of GLP-1 medications, but Nestle said the company will more directly connect the brand to the drugs on social media. The food company expects that its global growth will slow this year as inflation-weary consumers buy less of its products.

From a piazza in the town of Castellabate on the Cilento coast of Italy, you may lift your eyes over the rim of your cappuccino and drink in a panorama of sky and Mediterranean Sea from Salerno to the Gulf of Policastro. Looking way, way down, a fruited plain of vineyards, lemon trees and white fig stretches to the flanks of green mountains decked with wisps of vapor. Of course, people do die in the Cilento, a region south of the Amalfi Coast. But they also live longer than most, thanks to the Mediterranean Diet, first studied in these parts. It is more accurate to say that here, eternal life is a more appealing proposition.

Professional organizations have set this as a guideline for when to reassess whether a treatment is providing clinically meaningful weight loss. People who met with their providers less frequently – and those living in underserved regions with broader health inequities – were more likely to discontinue GLP-1 treatment sooner. But using GLP-1 treatments are still an investment in many ways. These injected medications, called GLP-1 agonists, are in high demand because they have proved to be so effective for weight loss. And experts warn that the GLP-1 treatment process can be different for everyone.
