Skynesher | E+ | Getty ImagesFor some retirees, the deadline to take required withdrawals from retirement accounts is approaching — and those who don't need the money have options, experts say. Since 2023, most retirees must take required minimum distributions, or RMDs, from pre-tax retirement accounts starting at age 73. Brokerage assets could be subject to capital gains taxes, whereas pre-tax retirement funds incur regular income taxes. Unlike mutual funds, most ETFs don't distribute capital gains payouts, which can save brokerage account investors on annual taxes. There's no charitable deduction, but QCDs don't count toward adjusted gross income, meaning retirees don't need to itemize tax breaks to claim it.

If you are willing to stomach significant short-term volatility for the chance at higher returns in the long run, you're generally considered an "aggressive" investor. Generally, aggressive investors hold larger portions of riskier assets, such as stocks, while conservatives prefer the safety and predictability of bonds. You'd think, then, that cryptocurrency, an extremely volatile asset, would be the exclusive territory of aggressive investors. So are young, wealthy investors changing the definitions of what it means to be aggressive or conservative? "We don't have an aggressive, momentum-style market in digital assets that typically attracts aggressive investors."

Five weeks into his career, Williams played his best and most complete game in Sunday’s 36-10 win against Carolina. Yet, as markets eye a soft landing, potential shocks pose a higher risk to investors, David Kelly says. The firm's chief global strategist says the promise of a soft landing has encouraged Americans to pour into riskier assets at the exact time they shouldn't be. "I will say that although I think this is positive for the equity market, I am getting increasingly queasy about the fact that the equity market keeps on pricing in a soft landing," Kelly told Business Insider. He said that as the market prices in a soft landing, valuations rise, which means any shock to the market could send asset prices tumbling. According to Fed data, the total aggregate wealth of American households grew by about $50 trillion in the last five years.

A billionaire minimum tax is one of several proposals pushed by Democrats in recent years to tax the rich. Harris has specifically called for raising the top tax rate on millionaires with long-term realized capital gains from 20% to 28%. Harris’ proposal to increase the tax rate on realized capital gains to 28% would apply to taxpayers with income over $1 million. How a tax on unrealized capital gains would workLet’s discuss how a billionaire minimum tax – which is, on a basic level, a tax on unrealized capital gains – would impact a homeowner. If passed, a billionaire minimum tax – an unprecedented tax on income not yet received – would likely face many legal challenges.

It is forecast to intensify into a hurricane by Sunday night — and a major hurricane by late Monday. Hurricane and storm surge watches will likely be issued for parts of the western Florida coast on Sunday — with dangerous storm surge expected for some areas just slammed by Helene. “This is something that potentially would be greater power outages than what we just saw with Hurricane Helene,” the governor said, noting the state’s residents still have a couple of days to get ready. The move could drive oil prices up further, creating a headache for Harris' campaign. If Israel did strike Iran's oil, it would likely have two main targets. Then, on Thursday, he said the US and Israel were discussing whether the US would support Israel striking Iran's oil facilities. Biden has indicated there are conversations between the US and Israel about whether Iran's oil facilities are a legitimate retaliatory strike option. Back in September, global oil prices fell to the lowest level in almost three years, and the US has seen a historic year of oil production.

Monthly Social Security checks aren't enough for most baby boomers to get by, further fueling a retirement crisis. A prenuptial agreement can be helpful, but it typically doesn't protect wealth built after the couple ties the knot, like retirement savings. Men's monthly retirement incomes are nearly $600 more than women's — $2,610 to $2,042 — and they're more likely to have a balance in a retirement account. Overall, divorced women like Clark see lower monthly retirement incomes than their male counterparts — and peers who have remarried. One of Mintzer's greatest divorce regrets is that she didn't safeguard her retirement savings.

In June, the CSG deal was cleared by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which reviews foreign investments over possible national security concerns. Western sanctions have forced Russia to rely on the Chinese yuan for reserves and trade. China's financial system is deeply tied to the greenback, limiting diversification options. These include the entrenched role of the greenback in the global commodities trade and much larger foreign reserves than Russia, wrote Greene, a former senior advisor at the US Treasury. However, many CIPS participants are highly connected to the dollar financial system and potentially subject to the reach of US sanctions.
