Families who lost loved ones in the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, said the Thursday arrest of former school district police chief Pete Arredondo is not a “happy moment” and are calling for more indictments. Arredondo, 52, was arrested on an indictment charging him with 10 counts of abandoning/endangering a child in connection with the May 24, 2022, school shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers. Those 10 counts are in connection with schoolchildren who survived the shooting, but experienced delays in receiving care and protection. A second officer was also indicted on multiple similar charges, according to a parent of one of the slain children, who asked not to be identified. He said the charges were a good step, calling it “a very emotional day for me.”“I don’t think it’s enough,” he said.

AdvertisementThis was Belgium at their finest, and Romania raised the level of their game in the second half to try to equalise. If Austria wanted to have any chance of qualifying to the round of 16 they had to beat Poland in their second group game. The wide areas were where Ukraine focused their attacks, and Oleksandr Zinchenko’s square pass to Mykola Shaparenko made it 1-1 in the second half. However, Samet Akaydin and Altay Bayindir’s mishap on the second goal decreased Turkey’s probability of a comeback. More off-ball runs in the second half led to the third, and by then the match was done and dusted.

Lightning stops playAfter several days of hot weather, the skies above Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park had been gathering throughout the evening. Thunder and lightning could be heard from afar, with the rain arriving after 32 minutes of Germany’s last-16 game against Denmark. Soon after, lightning flashes could be seen from inside the stadium, with two to three ear-splitting cracks of thunder. The suspension lasted for around 24 minutes — with preparations to restart occurring as soon as the lighting had moved out of the area. Players reemerged from their changing rooms five minutes before the resumption, and waited momentarily for groundstaff to test the pitch.

That said, my husband and I moved our family from Brooklyn to Maine to spend more time outside. We spent a long weekend at a camping ground in southern Maine, and the kids absolutely loved it. They are already asking to go camping again, and I'm wondering why we didn't do this earlier in their lives. There was a huge playset for little kids and all kinds of games, such as ping pong, foosball, and petanque. We went in late May, which is still low season for Maine, and the pond was packed with people.

It's true that Black workers have historically been overrepresented in certain sectors like government and home health care. When it comes to pay, inflation-adjusted weekly earnings for Black workers reached a two-decade high of $314 under Trump. But amid persistent inflation and a cooling job market, Black workers' average weekly earnings declined in the most recent quarter to $293.

But many called the West Bank’s current economic predicament the most difficult yet. Before the war, Mahmoud Abu Issa, 53, was earning over $2,000 a month — an enviable salary in the impoverished West Bank — as a construction worker in Israel. If Palestinian banks want to offer shekel accounts, they must maintain links with Israeli banks and rely on them to process shekel transactions. Younger generations of Asians are spending big on art

Younger, wealthy shoppers in Asia are splashing their cash on art, according to a longtime collector and senior auction house executive. Chen Yongnuo | China News Service | Getty ImagesAnd, while the size of the global art market fell 4% last year to around $65 billion, according to the Art Basel & UBS Art Market Report 2024, sales in China rose by 9% in 2023, overtaking the U.K. as the world's second-largest art market. For Sotheby's, the rise in younger buyers is driven in part by an increase in online activity. "The definition of digital art nowadays has been expanded from simply photography to video art to NFTs to AI-generated art," she told CNBC's "Art of Appreciation." "With the younger generations becoming more and more prominent in the market ... digital artists ... will be the group of artists getting more attention," Siyang-Le added.

The s'mores bars were a hit, though I wish the graham-cracker layer was thicker. I liked Trader Joe's s'mores bars, but had a few notes. VERDICT: I'm a picky s'mores traditionalist, so it's hard to say this truly delivers the vibe of the campfire classic. Click to keep reading other Trader Joe's taste tests in this series.

The app, ESPN Bet, made early strides in the first few months, gaining ground through promotions and marketing that leveraged ESPN's popular personalities. Even Fanatics, the industry's other major recent disrupter, hasn't made much of a dent in DraftKings' and FanDuel's dominance. As of March, ESPN Bet had captured about 4% of the online-sports-betting market by gross gaming revenue, per Bank of America's analysis, though its share has been higher in states like Pennsylvania. With its decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo on Friday, the Supreme Court has put new limits on how government regulators can interpret the law. The court’s decision will limit the power of federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Communications Commission and the Food and Drug Administration to interpret the laws they administer — as, for example, in the E.P.A.’s mandating reduced emissions from power plants on the basis of its own interpretation of the Clean Air Act. This decision has set off alarms for some, but it actually points the way toward a role for the courts that is less divisive — because it pushes everyone in our system, including judges and Congress, toward their proper constitutional work. By narrowing the so-called Chevron deference, the court has reasserted its authority over the meaning of vague legislation. Doing so may press Congress to make its law-writing more definitive and call on administrative agencies to apply substantive subject-matter expertise, rather than conjure the meanings of the laws they are meant to carry out.

CNN, which will host the first of two debates between President Biden and Donald Trump, is doing its best to gin up the old excitement, but the general feeling is one of unease. Time labels it “the dread election.” Across a wide range of backgrounds and beliefs, Americans describe themselves in similar terms: exhausted, indifferent, depressed. A recently categorized voter, the “double hater,” is the star of a report that identifies Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump as the most disliked pair of presidential candidates in at least 36 years — twice as disliked, in fact, as they were in 2020. In an election this close, if the debates make even a small difference, they could make all the difference. This is why Mr. Biden pressed so hard for an early debate.

Across the planet, basalt rock deposits on the sea floor have the potential to trap carbon dioxide, removing the heat-trapping gas from our atmosphere. First, the scientists need about $60 million to test a prototype at sea. Basalt rock is highly reactive, full of metals that readily grab CO2 and chemically combine with it to form carbonate minerals. They also argue that in the ocean, there's plenty of room to scale up and little risk of disgruntled neighbors fighting the project.
