University of Chicago agreed to a $13.5 million settlement over claims it conspired with top colleges over financial aid. Five former students accused 16 top schools in 2022 of working together to limit financial aid packages. In January 2022, five former undergraduate students who attended Duke, Northwestern, and Vanderbilt filed a lawsuit against 16 schools including UChicago, Brown, Yale, and Northwestern. The suit targeted a group called the 568 Presidents Group, which allowed schools to work together to determine common standards for disbursing financial aid. The plaintiffs said the schools favored wealthy applicants and "conspired" to reduce financial aid packages, and that they "overcharged over 170,000 financial-aid recipients by at least hundreds of millions of dollars."

The prototype, dubbed PhotoGuard, puts an invisible “immunization” over images that stops AI models from being able to manipulate the picture. The aim of PhotoGuard is to protect photos that people upload online from “malicious manipulation by AI models,” Salman said. But he said he hopes that with more engineering efforts, the prototype can be turned into a larger product that can be used to protect images. Between the middle of the 1970s and the late 2010s, in their responses to the General Social Survey, American women reported themselves to be steadily unhappier. They started out slightly unhappier than women and then made gains in the Reagan and Clinton years, while female happiness declined. NEW YORK, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs' (GS.N) global head of commodities research Jeff Currie, a prominent analyst who accurately predicted a surge in commodity prices in the 2000s, is retiring, according to a memo seen by Reuters. Julian Salisbury, chief investment officer of its asset and wealth management arm, is departing to join investment firm Sixth Street, according to an announcement last month. His forecast was borne out in what would become known as the commodities supercycle, during which crude oil surged to record highs in 2008. More recently, Currie revived his prediction for another supercycle fuelled by pandemic stimulus measures and rebounding economic activity. Currie joined Goldman in 1996 and was promoted to managing director in 2002, then partner in 2008.
