Lower-end consumers have shifted buying patterns to save money as their bank accounts dwindle in size, according to Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser. The third-largest U.S. bank by assets has been monitoring its credit card customers for signs of distress, Fraser told CNBC's Sara Eisen on Friday in an interview. When asked what other CEOs are telling her about the state of the economy, Fraser said that besides comments on AI and labor tightness, corporate leaders have told her that demand is softening, she said. "Particularly [for] the bottom end of the consumer, that's the one that we're starting to see cracks, you're seeing some shift in the buying patterns to lower categories in the spend," Fraser said. The scope of job cuts and expense savings triggered by the reorganization will be disclosed with fourth quarter earnings, Fraser said.

Hunter Biden on Tuesday sued former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, his companies, and another attorney over alleged violations of computer fraud and data access related to a laptop computer Biden is said to have left at a Delaware repair shop. "They also are among those who have been primarily responsible for the 'total annihilation' of Plaintiff's data." Giuliani delivered information allegedly gleaned from Biden's laptop to The New York Post, a right-wing newspaper, in October 2020, a month before the election between Trump and Joe Biden. The Post then published a story based on that data, which suggested that President Biden may have attended a meeting with a representative of a Ukrainian company that employed Hunter. The suit also says Biden's data was "manipulated, altered and damaged" before it was copied and sent to Giuliani and Costello.

But Asher, enamored with the power of his magical machines, kept talking about the five names they got right. Many critiques of our increasingly algorithmic world focus on where algorithms fail. A third boils down to checks and balances: Algorithms are often proprietary black boxes, closed to outside scrutiny. "The Saudi deal's enormous potential has left Biden & Netanyahu little choice but to meet despite differences," he said. There is still work to do," White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters on Sept. 7. “Most of the time, I’m halfway content.”Those words are Bob Dylan’s, and they were delivered one night last week by Brooke Shields during her sold-out debut show at the Café Carlyle, the intimate Manhattan supper club where Bobby Short, Elaine Stritch and Debbie Harry have performed. It was five months after Ms. Shields had returned to the spotlight with “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields,” an acclaimed documentary that chronicled the ups and downs of a career that got its start in the 1970s, when she was a child model and actress marketed as a sex symbol. A number of celebrities came out to see her at the venue, which is blocks away from the Upper East Side apartment where she grew up. At a table close to the stage were the actors Naomi Watts, Billy Crudup and Laura Dern. Nearby sat Mariska Hargitay, whom Ms. Shields has worked with on “Law & Order: SVU.” The crowd also included two men who had done cabaret at the Carlyle: Isaac Mizrahi, who designed the loosefitting orange dress Ms. Shields was wearing, and Alan Cumming.

What Americans believe about Hunter Biden’s businessEven if there is nothing to tie President Biden to the millions of dollars Hunter Biden and other family members made from interests in China, Ukraine and elsewhere, most Americans are not convinced. Netanyahu's nationalist-religious coalition in January launched a campaign to overhaul Israel's judiciary, sparking unprecedented protests, sending the shekel down and stirring concern among allies for Israel's democratic health. President Isaac Herzog did not provide details of the new compromise proposal, saying only that it provides the basis for immediate understandings that will keep Israel "a stable democracy." Netanyahu says the judicial changes are meant to balance out branches of government by reining in a court that has become too interventionist. Netanyahu, who is on trial for corruption charges he denies, has said that he has already scrapped some of the original judicial proposals while he works to reach agreements on reforms. Successive surveys have shown the overhaul to be unpopular among Israelis and Netanyahu's coalition, which won a decisive victory in a November vote, losing an election were it to be held.

“The Supreme Court and the government alike possess a credible nuclear threat against the other side … if both sides are rational actors, they will … disarm themselves. That leaves the Supreme Court as the only check on the executive and legislative branches of government. Striking down a Basic Law would be uncharted territory for the Supreme Court, although it has examined and commented on Basic Laws before. Thousands of military reservists and even some active duty soldiers have vowed not to serve if the judicial overhaul went into effect. Or for the Supreme Court that might say we have a right to demonstrate, the right to strike by our so to speak legal system,” Tomer said.

Forming a sea of blue and white Israeli flags, the protesters chanted "democracy" in a show of support for the Supreme Court, which on Tuesday will convene its entire 15-judge bench for the first time in Israeli history. The judges will hear appeals against a judicial amendment that was passed by Netanyahu's national-religious coalition in July and which sparked uproar for what critics say is an attempt to weaken the court. 'ANARCHY'The appellants in Tuesday's hearing - opposition lawmakers and watchdog groups - say the amendment removes vital democratic checks and balances and invites abuses of power. In its legal response to the petitions, the government has said the Supreme Court has no authority to even review the so-called "reasonableness" amendment to a quasi-constitutional Basic Law, and said the debate could "lead to anarchy". Netanyahu, who is on trial for corruption charges he denies, says the judicial changes are meant to balance a Supreme Court that has become too interventionist.

Police officers ride with detained Haitian nationals to a migration clearance centre to verify their papers as the government is stepping up deportations, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic November 15, 2022. Raul Asencio/Courtesy by Listin Diario/via REUTER0/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSANTO DOMINGO/PORT-AU-PRINCE, Sept 11 (Reuters) - The Dominican Republic will seal its border with Haiti in its northern Dajabon province if a conflict over access to water from a shared river is not resolved in the coming days, a government spokesperson said on Monday. Dajabon is one of the few remaining functioning borders between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which has been tightening its border security amid worsening gang warfare in Haiti, deporting tens of thousands who fled the crisis. The Dominican Republic will completely close off the border to land, maritime and air commerce if the conflict is not resolved by Thursday, Dominican authorities said in a statement, adding new visas for Haitians would also be suspended. Santo Domingo, which first ordered the border closure in a preliminary move last week, said it will seek talks with Haiti to find a "definitive solution."
