William P. Barr, who served as attorney general under President Donald J. Trump, excoriated his former boss on Sunday for “reckless conduct” that led to Mr. Trump’s indictment on charges of mishandling classified documents, saying that the case was “entirely of his own making.”Mr. Barr, in an interview with CBS News’s “Face the Nation,” walked through the severity of the charges against Mr. Trump. He described the former president’s actions — laid out in a 49-page indictment — as harmful not only to the country, but also to the Republican Party and the conservative movement that Mr. Trump leads. Mr. Barr also attacked Mr. Trump’s character in extraordinary language, describing him as “a consummate narcissist” and a “fundamentally flawed person” who would always put his own ego ahead of everything else. He added that he believed Mr. Trump had lied to the Justice Department about the classified documents in his possession. “He’s like a defiant 9-year-old kid who is always pushing the glass towards the edge of the table, defying his parents from stopping him from doing it,” Mr. Barr said, adding that “our country can’t be a therapy session for a troubled man like this.”

CNN —The Australian government is introducing legislation to terminate a lease of a new Russian embassy near Parliament House in the capital Canberra, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Thursday. “The government has received very clear security advice as to the risk presented by a new Russian presence so close to Parliament House,” Albanese told reporters in a televised press conference. The land proposed for the second Russian embassy lies directly adjacent to Parliament House, Australian Home Minister Clare O’Neil said alongside Albanese. “We’re acting quickly to ensure the leased site does not become a formal diplomatic presence,” the prime minister said. A Fox News chyron called Biden a "wannabe dictator" who had his "political rival" Donald Trump arrested. Fox said in a statement Wednesday that "the chyron was taken down immediately and was addressed." Fox did not explain how the message made it onto the screen and how the matter was addressed. While Fox News aired Trump's speech live, MSNBC did not. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow made a similar pronouncement before that network chose not to air Trump's speech live.

This is the first time a former American president has been arraigned on federal charges. Jill Filipovic Courtesy of Jill FilipovicFormer President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to all 37 federal charges at a federal courthouse in Miami on Tuesday afternoon. The indictment says that Trump willfully retained national security information, violated the Espionage Act more than 30 times, and conspired to obstruct justice, among other crimes. What is clear, though, is that this case will be a test of the US justice system and the strength of national institutions in a (for now) post-Trump America. Any president who is found to have used national security documents for bragging rights and flouted American law must be held accountable.

First, it seems increasingly plausible that he will become the first former president to be convicted of a felony. Second, he also seems increasingly likely to win the Republican nomination for president, with the betting markets also giving him about a 22 percent chance of going on and actually being elected president. But some smart lawyers believe that for Trump, the “peril is extreme,” as one former federal prosecutor put it. Still, deference may end upon conviction, and defendants in less serious cases have ended up with substantial prison sentences. And during Trump’s presidency, Reality Winner leaked a single document and was sentenced to more than five years in prison.

The roar of outrage from Republican leaders to that indictment restored Trump’s grip on the party after frustration over his role in the GOP’s disappointing 2022 midterm elections had loosened it. Repeating the pattern from other moments of maximum threat to Trump, the GOP response has been marked by a pronounced communications imbalance. (The poll was conducted after Trump’s indictment in Manhattan but before the recent federal charges.) At another point Trump insisted, “These criminals cannot be rewarded” – presumably by frightening Republican voters away from nominating him. Yet, Robinson believes, by echoing Trump’s claims of unfair treatment, the other candidates are encouraging Republican voters to accept his framing of the race.

At the North Carolina State GOP Convention on Saturday, on his first campaign swing since news of the federal indictment, Trump escalated his assault on America’s system of justice. They’re trying to win the classified documents case in a court of public opinion – in a way that may influence a future jury – long before the ex-president faces a trial. Not to mention, the law does not require documents to be classified for a crime to have been committed. And many Democrats blamed ex-FBI Chief James Comey’s public statements in the case days before the 2016 election for helping to elect Trump. “(What) the Democrats are doing to Trump, it’s just too – it has nothing to do with running the country,” she said.

No one will be above the law.”That’s what then-candidate Donald Trump said at a campaign rally in August of 2016. Trump has reached for apocalyptic rhetoric, calling for his supporters to protest at the Florida courthouse when he is arraigned on Tuesday. The threats of violence reflect an authoritarian impulse completely at odds with the alleged principles of the Republican Party and the conservative movement. Here’s the key difference: Trump was not charged for having the classified documents but for willfully trying to hide the documents after the feds enquired. When facts and reason no longer apply, desperate individuals resort to threats of violence.

The 37 federal charges against former President Donald Trump were unsealed on Friday. Trump announced the indictment on Truth Social and has been pushing his narrative since Thursday. While his team feels good about their response to the charges, that does not mean he's off the hook. While that puts him at a public relations advantage over special counsel Jack Smith, it doesn't mean he's clear of serious legal peril. And if Trump is convicted, the judge has a large say, within the guidelines, of whether he ever sees prison time.

Trump told Politico on Saturday that he would continue his presidential campaign, even if he were convicted in the case, saying "I'll never leave." Of the 37 counts against Trump, 31 of them relate to secret and top secret classified documents that he kept after leaving the White House in early 2021. NOT 'PERSONAL DOCUMENTS'Trump has previously defended his retention of classified records, claiming without evidence he declassified them while in office - a defense that his allies have also repeated. Trump and his allies have also separately tried to argue that the records at the heart of the case are personal in nature and covered by the Presidential Records Act. "He has every right to have classified documents that he declassifies under the Presidential Records Act," Habba told Fox News Sunday.

Startups raised a ridiculous amount of money in recent years through 2021. Startup failure rate is beginning to increase, from artificially low levels in 2021, and there could be a wave of capitulation in the next year where an unusually large number of startups shut down. There was a frenzy of investment, where startups raised massive amounts of money and some businesses got funding that maybe shouldn't have.
