SEATTLE (AP) — The last centralized NHL Draft for the foreseeable future is going out with the glitz and bright lights of Vegas. Bettman said contracts still need to be finalized, but the league is excited about the possibilities for the draft. WORLD CUP COMINGThe league is targeting three major international events to work into the calendar over the next several years. Bettman called that the appetizer for the following years — first the Olympics in 2026 and then a full World Cup in 2028. He hopes by the time of the mini-tournament 16 months from now that plans will be in place for the World Cup.

CNN —CONMEBOL, South America’s soccer federation, has announced the 14 cities that will host matches at the 2024 Copa América as the tournament returns to the United States for the first time since 2016. Ecuador was originally designated as the tournament host but pulled out in November 2022 due to economic and security concerns, as well as a lack of viable stadiums. CONMEBOL has encountered obstacles in hosting the last three editions of the Copa América held in South America. Now, for the third edition in a row, the host nation has been changed after the US took over organizing duties from Ecuador. Argentina won the postponed 2020 edition of the Copa América, which was moved to Brazil.

"The declaration of interest has been signed by PSSI and football association of Singapore," he told reporters, referring to Indonesia's football federation. Muslim-majority Indonesia was in March stripped of the rights to host the U-20 contest just seven weeks out from its start due to opposition from some government officials to the participation of Israel. The loss of hosting rights was a big setback in Indonesia, where football has a huge following, despite the lack of international success since qualifying for the 1938 World Cup as the Dutch East Indies.

MILAN (AP) — Christian Pulisic came to AC Milan to revive his flagging club career. Pulisic has started life in Italy with five goals and two assists in his first 12 league matches with Milan, the 25-year-old matching Weston McKennie’s goal tally for Juventus in the entire 2020-21 season. Pulisic’s most prolific season was in 2019-20, when he weighed in with nine goals in 25 matches for Chelsea. Pulisic scored just once in his final season with Chelsea and made just two starts after Jan. 5 before moving to Milan in the offseason. ATLANTA (AP) — Fourteen U.S. cities will play host to Copa América next summer, with the semifinals at East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Charlotte, North Carolina, ahead of the July 14 championship in Miami Gardens, Florida. The semifinals will be in New Jersey's MetLife Stadium on July 9 and Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium the next day. This will be only the second time Copa América has been held outside of South America since the inaugural tournament in 1916. Except for the Centenario tournament, Copa América hosting duties usually have rotated among the 10 COMNEBOL nations in South America. NEW YORK (AP) — Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo has been hit with class-action lawsuit seeking at least $1 billion in damages for his role in promoting cryptocurrency-related “non-fungible tokens,” or NFTs, issued by the beleaguered cryptocurrency exchange Binance. Representatives for Ronaldo and Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, did not immediately return The Associated Press' requests for comment. Ronaldo launched his inaugural NFT “CR7” collection with Binance back in November of last year, ahead of the 2022 World Cup. Most recently, on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) Ronaldo reposted a Binance video and wrote that he was “Cooking something up" with the crypto exchange on Tuesday. Over the summer, Binance was accused of operating as an unregistered securities exchange and violating a slew of U.S. securities laws in a lawsuit from regulators.

CNN —England captain Owen Farrell is taking a break from international rugby “to prioritise his and his family’s mental well-being,” club side Saracens announced on Wednesday. The club said that Farrell will miss next year’s Six Nations but will continue to play for and captain Saracens. He was also the top scorer at the World Cup with 75 points. “Everyone at England Rugby is fully behind Owen’s decision,” England head coach Steve Borthwick said in a statement. Nov 27 (Reuters) - BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, will be renamed "Christine Sinclair Place" for one night next week in honour of the captain's final match with the women's international team, Canada Soccer said on Monday. Sinclair, who is the world's all-time leading international goalscorer, announced her retirement from the Canada women's national team in October and her final game will be on Dec. 5 against Australia. "The legacy of Christine's career has and will live on beyond her tremendous accomplishments on the field," Canada Soccer President Charmaine Crooks said in a news release. The 40-year-old Sinclair's international career includes a record 190 goals for Canada, an Olympic gold medal and six World Cup appearances. Sinclair still plans to play for Portland Thorns in the National Women's Soccer League next season and after that expects to remain involved with the game in some capacity.
