Bank of America topped estimates for third-quarter profit on Tuesday on stronger-than-expected interest income. Bank of America said interest income rose 4% to $14.4 billion, roughly $300 million more than analysts had anticipated, fueled by higher rates and loan growth. Shares of Bank of America rose 1% in premarket trading. Bank of America was supposed to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of higher interest rates this year. Those securities lost value as interest rates climbed.

Footage released by the IDF showed members of the navy's "Snapir" unit fighting off Hamas militants. The IDF said militants "were swimming toward the shoreline in an attempt to infiltrate Israel by sea." The Palestinian militant group Hamas' sea attack came as part of a wider wave of surprise attacks by land, sea, and air on October 7. The footage appears to show Israeli troops shooting and throwing grenades or depth charges from Defender-class boats at Hamas fighters. The insurgents on-board were thrown into the Mediterranean Sea and then attempted to swim toward the coast, the IDF said.

But it’s a looming catastrophe for New Orleans, where officials estimate that tens of thousands of the city’s water pipes are made of lead. Many residents aren’t even aware they have lead pipes supplying their drinking water, said Jessica Dandridge, executive director of the Water Collaborative of Greater New Orleans. Dandridge’s organization works both on water quality issues around the city’s lead pipes and stormwater management and flood control, and they are one of BlueConduit’s local partners working to map the pipes. As a result, lead drinking pipes are all over the country; some national estimates say the total number of pipes is around 9.2 million. It’s “almost a sleuthing or detective (work), trying to find out where the pipes are and where they go,” New Orleans City Councilmember JP Morrell told CNN.

Ukraine intelligence officials claim that an experimental sea drone hit two Russian military ships. The drone has been dubbed the "Sea Baby," an invention of Ukraine's security services. The drone is called the "Sea Baby," which officials in Ukraine have now claimed is behind at least three covert drone operations against Russia. CNN —The public’s impressions of the Republican Party and its leaders in Congress have worsened amid a leadership crisis in the House of Representatives, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, with Republican-aligned Americans divided over how the GOP should govern. A 56% majority of Republican-aligned voters who back former President Donald Trump say they approve of McCarthy’s ouster, compared with just 37% of those not supporting Trump in the primary. That division is evident across multiple measures of the Republican Party’s performance or of views on its path forward. Asked about Republican leaders in Congress, 51% of Trump supporters approve of their work, while just 35% of other Republican-aligned voters feel the same. Among the public generally, impressions of the Republican Party are deeply negative.
