From the moment Paul Graham dropped his essay on "founder mode," people online analyzed it like a stone tablet found bearing the new commandment of startupdom. But there's one group that has been privately wrestling with "founder mode" since before it had a meme-able name: female founders. Four female founders told Business Insider that a stark double standard prevents them from operating their startups as their male counterparts do. CNN —The number of available jobs in the US shrank more than expected in July, an indication that demand for workers continues to wane amid a cooling labor market. Wednesday’s data is the first in a series of critically important economic metrics released this week about the US labor market, culminating with the Friday jobs report. As the labor market has slowed, it’s come back into balance: There are now nearly 1.1 jobs available for every person looking for one. The monthly jobs report for July showed gains of just 114,000 — far below expectations — and the unemployment rate shot to 4.3% from 4.1%. Separately, annual labor market data revisions showed job gains for the year ending March 2024 were less robust than initially thought.

I wasn't familiar with early college programs, but they've become popular in our local area, both for the support they can offer teens transitioning to college and the cost savings they can offer. Students in the program take an additional year of high school that's a full college course load and then graduate from high school with up to 60 college credits, sometimes enough for a full associate degree. Along with the early college program, I took the small amount of savings we did have for her and opened a 529 education account. The catch is that all the money has to be used for educational purposes, but things such as trade school and school expenses qualify.
