There were 352 shopping malls classified as Class A and B at the end of 2016, according to company reports, S&P Capital IQ and Coresight Research. That decline is sharper among Class C and D shopping malls, which fell from 684 malls in 2016 to 287 in 2022, according to the companies' research. At some distressed malls, Macy's may be the last anchor that remains.

S & P down 5.50% here, headlines of a Nikkei crash, and another great Yen carry unwind happening. I traded for a hedge fund and served as senior technical analyst for an foreign exchange company during the great financial crisis of 2008 that saw a severe yen carry unwind. If the line is headed south the dollar is weakening relative to the yen, and the yen is strengthening relative to the dollar. I believe that the July 11th CPI print that came 0.1% below expectations was the culprit to this whole yen carry unwind. Could this yen carry unwind move further?

☆ New study links early childhood tablet use to anger outbursts

One paper published just this year sheds some light as to why tablet use could be related to anger outbursts. This is in the context of near-universal use of social media, with up to 95% of kids ages 13 to 17 reporting using social media. American teens report spending a shocking amount of time — nearly five hours each day—on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and other social media apps. There are a number of problems with this level of social media use, one of which is what this time is replacing. Third, for those whose kids already have smartphones and use social media apps, speak with them about the impact of social media on them.
