Trump’s Loss of Loyalty

But for Trump, Ellis' plea was especially damaging, since it underscored the steady evaporation of something Trump has demanded from staff and associates since his days as a New York businessman: loyalty. "If I knew then what I know now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-election challenges. The three former Trump lawyers who pleaded guilty in Georgia were facing some serious potential consequences, he noted, including not just time behind bars but the loss of their law licenses – and that may take priority over honoring Trump's demands for loyalty. "This is not about Donald Trump vs. Michael Cohen," Cohen said as he entered the New York courtroom. You saw Donald Trump try to walk away from Sidney Powell – despite documentary evidence that he had called her his lawyer.

Embracing AI to create matchesThough AI has powered Indeed job searches from the very beginning, it's now matching employers and job seekers in new and exciting ways. When a job seeker views a posting, Indeed uses hundreds of millions of salary data points to estimate the pay for that job and helps the job seeker view how that pay matches their expectations. Indeed has spent the past two years building and fine-tuning an AI-powered job description generator that is incredibly simple and effective. Employers can specify pay, and our AI will compare that pay with local listings and job seeker preferences to recommend competitive pay ranges. This uses generative AI to automatically compose a personalized message to the job seeker, explaining why their job is right for them.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The state of Florida is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to block lower court rulings that prohibit the enforcement of a new law targeting drag shows. Florida officials filed an application with the nation's highest court on Friday asking that the prohibition against enforcing the anti-drag show law only be limited to the Orlando, Florida, restaurant which challenged its constitutionality. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court’s granting of a preliminary injunction stopping the law from being enforced. The appeals court panel ruled against a request from Florida officials to limit the injunction to the Hamburger Mary's restaurant, saying that Florida officials hadn’t shown that the lower court erred by prohibiting the universal enforcement of the law. Policymakers in Washington are now engaged in a wide range of discussions regarding how to prevent AI technology from spinning out of control. Rather than upending the old order, there's a real possibility in this case that disruption will help the big get bigger, with challengers struggling to gain any real traction. In short, AI shouldn't be a vehicle used to ensure that Silicon Valley-based Big Tech can extend its dominance. America has not always remained true to its embrace of bottom-up innovation — and the innovation economy has suffered as a result. This new technology should not be a wedge that further separates the tech world from the rest of America.

The last Gaza war in 2021 saw sometimes violent pro-Palestinian protests among the Arab citizens who make up 21% of Israel's population. Israeli police have arrested dozens of Arab citizens on suspicion of incitement and support for Hamas, based on social media posts. An additional measure has been the setting up of volunteer security squads to patrol the streets and back up police. Shabtai said security squads would be subordinate to police. "It is good that there will be a lot of security squads and force, but caution must be exercised with this," he said.

Graphite is used in virtually all EV battery anodes, which is the negatively charged portion of a battery. Their announcement boosted China's exports in July as overseas buyers rushed to lock in supply, while the launch of the restrictions slashed exports in August-September. REUTERS/Leonardo Fernandez Viloria/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK/CARACAS, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Venezuela's sovereign bonds rallied on Thursday, a day after the United States lifted its ban on secondary market trading of some of the country's eurobonds, with investors eyeing a debt restructuring on some $60 billion of defaulted debt. "Prices have almost doubled in the past 24 hours but are still well below the pre-sanctioned levels," said Edward Cowen, CEO of Winterbrook Capital, who has co-invested in a fund to buy Venezuelan debt. Cowen added that a return to Venezuela's regular weighting on global indexes like JPMorgan's would give the prices further support. "I think the market was caught by surprise as the ban on secondary trading of bonds was not expected to be removed this early in the negotiation," said Armando Armenta, senior economist for global economic research at AllianceBernstein. Small funds and investors outside the United States had looked to increase their exposure to Venezuelan bonds on the expectation of debt renegotiations.

If and when it is approved, Coinbase will have a universal "MiCA license" in Ireland, which it can then use to "passport" its services into Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and other EU countries. The rules will allow crypto companies to use one license in one country to operate across all 27 EU member states. Currently, Coinbase has an electronic money institution license and virtual asset service provider registration in Ireland; a crypto license in Germany; and national registrations in other EU member states including Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. Paul Grewal, Coinbase's chief legal officer, said that progress has been "slower" than he'd like when it comes to achieving crypto regulation in the U.S. "We're now seeing in court cases real questions being asked about the U.S. approach to crypto regulation and in particular securities regulation," he said.

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro speaks during a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi at the Miraflores Palace, in Caracas, Venezuela June 12, 2023. The U.S. imposed tough sanctions on Venezuela to punish President Nicolas Maduro's government following his 2018 re-election, which the U.S. and other Western governments rejected as a sham. Since 2019, U.S. sanctions have banned state-run oil company PDVSA from exporting to its chosen markets. The official warned, however, that U.S. decisions on relaxed sanctions would depend on Maduro complying with the latest agreement and working toward free and fair elections. Some opposition figures told Reuters on Monday they doubt Maduro's administration will follow through on the election pledges.

Citi maintained its buy rating on Nvidia but lowered its price target to $575 from $630. The bank's lowered outlook comes after the U.S. Department of Commerce announced new export restrictions Tuesday that would curb the sale of more advanced artificial intelligence chips to China. The move will restrict the export of Nvidia's A800 and H800 chips as the federal government attempts to further tighten last year's restrictions on AI chip exports. Malik lowered his full-year 2025 earnings per share by 0.3% to reflect lowered China exposure with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards. Canada targets Airbnb, others to ease rental shortage

REUTERS/Susana Vera/File photo Acquire Licensing RightsOTTAWA, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Canada will take steps in the coming weeks to ease a rental-unit shortage exacerbated by Airbnb (ABNB.O) and other short-term rental platforms, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Tuesday. Freeland said the government is examining options to ensure more short-term rentals become available as long-term rentals. Cities around the United States are more closely regulating short-term rentals, including by requiring hosts to obtain licenses and pay registration fees. In that province, there are 28,000 daily active short-term rental listings, up 20% from a year ago. The authorization allows them to continue their Chinese chipmaking operations without the headache of applying for U.S. licenses to get new equipment, after new rules issued last October curbed Chinese chipmakers' access to the coveted tools. The October 2022 rules restricted shipments of advanced chips and chipmaking equipment to China as part of a U.S. bid to slow China's technological and military advances. Samsung Electronics makes about 40% of its NAND flash chips at its plant in Xian, China, while SK Hynix makes about 40% of its DRAM chips in Wuxi and 20% of its NAND flash chips in Dalian. The companies together controlled nearly 70% of the global DRAM market and 50% of the NAND flash market as of the end of June, data from TrendForce showed.
