"This is a good place to spend your budget," Street told BI. "The ideal sofa will provide a comfortable place to sit as well as add to the overall design of the room." A bar is great when you're entertaining guestsWhether it be a wet bar or a wine cabinet, having a little bar area in the living room is convenient for when you have guests over. "When designing a living room, I pay special attention to all the light fixtures, including recessed fixtures and decorative table lamps," Maynard told BI.

Read previewMy partner and I decided to splurge on a vacation to Costa Rica for a milestone birthday celebration this year. Costa Rica boasts 5% of the world's biodiversity, with white sand beaches and lush jungles to explore — a huge draw for us as animal lovers. My partner captured drone footage of our rafting trip down the Rio Celeste in Costa Rica. We chose to take a night walk that included a coffee and chocolate tour. I suggest a dedicated night walk tour, which usually begin at dusk, for a chance to see sloths and other creatures, rather than a gimmicky coffee and chocolate tour offered by many locations.

For young, secular, politically progressive men and women, having children has become something of an afterthought. Indeed, the data suggest that people are having children later than they used to and are having fewer than they’d like. Unreserved enthusiasm for having children can come across as essentially reactionary. Over the past four years, we’ve conducted interviews and surveys with hundreds of young Americans about their attitudes toward having children. If they are not, they face a choice of returning to the dating pool, freezing their eggs (if they haven’t done so already), single parenting or giving up their hope of having kids of their own.

O’KEEFE: “The Loves of Theodore Roosevelt” argues that the most masculine president in the American memory is actually the product of unsung and extraordinary women. Theodore Roosevelt with his second wife, Edith Carow Roosevelt, and his first five children in the mid-1890s. I had this fascinating conversation with Connie Roosevelt, who is the wife of Theodore Roosevelt IV (Teddy’s great-grandson). I love Robin Williams and the depiction in “Night at the Museum,” but that’s a cartoon of Theodore Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt, like his distant cousin Franklin Roosevelt, was considered a traitor to his class.

“War” by Sebastian Junger, “End Times” by Peter Turchin and “The Unwinding,” the fabulous book by illustrator/writer Jackie Morris. No one should be surprised by a writer’s library. We all read well beyond the literary forms for which we are known. However, a friend was scanning my shelves and asked, “Why do you have that book on cocaine?” Dominic Streatfeild’s “Cocaine: An Unauthorized Biography” is a terrific book — I read it for background research. My husband and I each speak our native languages to the kids, and they learn German from day care and school. It's fantastic that they're growing up with three languages, but sometimes having multiple languages can present some quandaries when it comes to finding baby names. One classic example is that certain letters sound different in various languages, such as the letter "j," which makes a "y" sound in languages like Spanish and German but a "djuh" sound in English. As a result, names like Jonas or Juliana may not sound quite the same in different languages. You can also test out names in various languages if you're unsure how they'll be received by talking directly to native speakers.

A source familiar with the Governor’s plan said Hochul pushed for the delay due to concerns about affordability and the potential impact to the city’s post-pandemic economic recovery. New York’s congestion pricing would have been the first of its kind in the United States. “As a longtime champion of Congestion Pricing and the Congressional Representative of a significant portion of the Central Business District (CBD), I am disappointed by reports that Governor Hochul will not implement Congestion Pricing on June 30, as previously planned,” Nadler said in a statement. “For years, Leader Hakeem Jeffries has maintained neutrality with respect to the congestion pricing policy debate. Congestion pricing is a $15 billion lifeline for the MTA – critical funding that will be lost if the program is stalled,” the group said in a statement.

The unanimous vote by the 16 advisers recommends a formula aimed at combating the variant JN.1, which dominated infections in the United States in February, or a version of it. In recent weeks, JN.1 has been overtaken by descendants known as KP.2 and KP.3. is expected to formally recommend a variant target for vaccine makers for the next round of shots in the late summer or early fall. Any decision involves some educated guesswork, given that any new vaccine formula won’t be available until months after a variant becomes dominant. “It’s becoming clear that the ideal timing for a vaccine composition decision remains elusive,” said Jerry Weir, an official with the F.D.A.’s vaccine division.

Opinion: Why we’re having less sex
  + stars: | 2024-06-04 | by ( Opinion Jill Filipovic | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
Women still cannot hold top positions in many religious institutions, and so many have understandably rejected these misogynistic formal patriarchies. If young women do indeed feel freer to opt out of sex they don’t want, that’s great. And most women desire sex, too, and deserve to have sex that feels good. This doesn’t mean everyone needs to be having sex all the time. The trick is refusing to fall into sexist ideas about what sex is for or how women should be valued.

Kathy Hochul is quietly maneuvering to delay a plan to toll drivers entering Manhattan’s central business district, just weeks before it is slated to go into effect, according to two people familiar with the discussions. The first-in-the-nation congestion pricing plan, which has been decades in the making, is slated to start June 30. Drivers using E-ZPass will pay as much as $15 to enter Manhattan south of 60th Street. But even as Ms. Hochul believes that congestion pricing is good environmental policy, she has concerns that the timing was less than ideal, according to a person familiar with her thinking. The governor feared that it might deter commuters from returning to the central business district, which has yet to fully recover from the pandemic.
