A police raid on a bar just outside of London renewed a debate over racist dolls. But despite the long history of the racist trope, the debate over the doll's place in British culture continues. Revellers take part in the Children's Parade at Notting Hill Carnival in London, Britain, August 28, 2022. But it does appear that there is some gradual shift in public opinion happening with the dolls. Nevertheless, the enduring popularity of the blackface doll creates the impression "that we live in a post-racial society," Scott said.
Nvidia's most-advanced graphics cards are selling for more than $40,000 on eBay , as demand soars for chips needed to train and deploy artificial intelligence software. The prices for Nvidia's H100 processors were noted by 3D gaming pioneer and former Meta consulting technology chief John Carmack on Twitter. The H100, announced last year, is Nvidia's latest flagship AI chip, succeeding the A100, a roughly $10,000 chip that's been called the "workhorse" for AI applications. Microsoft spent hundreds of millions of dollars on tens of thousands of Nvidia A100 chips to help build ChatGPT. Nvidia controls the vast majority of the market for AI chips.
11,000 companies used a man's address to register for sales tax, BBC News reported. Dylan Davies, from Cardiff, Wales, was sent 580 letters in one day in connection with sales tax. "You'd think there'd be a systems with the technology today that would have picked it up immediately," Davies told BBC News. It meant that overseas sellers on platforms such as Amazon and eBay should collect sales tax from overseas traders and pay HMRC.
Multiple experts identified the presence of malware on the Pinduoduo app that exploited vulnerabilities in Android operating systems. Evidence of sophisticated malware in the Pinduoduo app comes amid intense scrutiny of Chinese-developed apps like TikTok over concerns about data security. Pinduoduo has previously rejected “the speculation and accusation that Pinduoduo app is malicious.”CNN has contacted PDD multiple times over email and phone for comment, but has not received a response. Google Play is not available in China, and Android users in the country download their apps from local stores. Engineers also found their access to big data, data sheets and the log system revoked, the source said.
March 31 (Reuters) - A judge has rejected Amazon.com Inc's (AMZN.O) bid to dismiss California's antitrust lawsuit accusing the online retailer of illegally forcing merchants to accept policies that cause consumers to pay artificially high prices. California Attorney General Rob Bonta had sued Seattle-based Amazon last September. The lawsuit sought to block Amazon from enforcing policies that bar the sale of goods more cheaply elsewhere, and to pay damages and penalties. Washington, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine is appealing a judge's March 2022 dismissal of his similar lawsuit against Amazon. The case is California v Amazon.com Inc, Superior Court of California, San Francisco County, No.

New York CNN —For decades, Girl Scouts has used cookie sales to raise funds and teach scouts about entrepreneurship. “Right now we are focused on ensuring all Girl Scouts have a successful Cookie Season,” Girl Scouts USA told CNN in a statement, adding that it is also focused on optimizing its operations “in real-time, and [capturing] learnings that will inform our strategy going into future seasons.”But for the scouts, those learnings have been hard-won. That meant shoppers could order it themselves, though Girl Scouts encouraged them to ask scouts to place the orders. Plus, Girl Scouts built a lot of hype with the limited-time offer, creating a sense of urgency, Esper noted. The download page for the TikTok app displayed on an Apple iPhone. Besides TikTok, there’s also shopping app Temu, fast fashion retailer Shein and video editing app CapCut, which is also owned by ByteDance.
REUTERS/Alyssa PointerLOS ANGELES, March 24 (Reuters) - There is no such thing as free shipping. "The days of free delivery are numbered," Ken Morris, managing partner at Cambridge Retail Advisors, said of the fast-changing retail marketing tool. It is an open secret that most retailers raise product prices to subsidize free shipping. Postal Service hitting record levels, the industry where nearly three-quarters of e-commerce companies offer some sort of free shipping is rethinking the financial cost of habituating shoppers to free shipping. While retailers like Amazon and fashion purveyor Asos Plc (ASOS.L) have raised thresholds for fast shipping, others are dropping free shipping altogether or taking product prices up again.

Every previous boom and bust in tech over the decades has resulted in winners and losers. The ones that survived were those that stayed agile, kept focused on innovation, and made sure their foundations were solid. Whichever way you slice it, one thing is certain, the valuations of most major tech companies were high — and now they're not. For Dr. Govindarajan, the theme is austerity, telling Insider that tech "can't afford to be wasteful" anymore. Some people would've lost," said Dr. Govindarajan.

Credit Suisse merch is popping up in online marketplaces following the 167-year-old lender's merger with UBS. Branded gold bars and bags are some of the other Credit Suisse merch available on the platforms. One listing of the Credit Suisse cap started at 80 francs on March 19. Bidding on other Credit Suisse merch — such as this tote bag and a coin bank — also attracted four and five bids, respectively. And while Credit Suisse merch may be attracting buyers, the same cannot be said for the shares of the 167-year-old lender.
In 1999, My husband Andy and I became house parents at the Milton Hershey School. The decision for us to eventually go back and become house parents was an easy one. Throughout our 15 years as house parents, we helped raise around 100 junior high- and high school-aged boys while also bringing up our two biological children. While Andy worked for the Amazon business full-time, I stayed at Milton Hershey School and wrote curriculum. Last year, we made more than $10 million in sales, and we have a team of 47 people who we can comfortably pay to run our Amazon business.

Etsy, eBay, Amazon, and Shopify have all raised fees for sellers in recent months. Amazon has also steadily raised fees for its Fulfillment by Amazon service since 2020. "Meta's discovery gluttony confirms its request of eBay is not worthy of the burden Meta seeks to impose," eBay's lawyers told the California court. EBay's Quinn Emanuel attorneys derided Meta as a "litigant that has completely disregarded the bounds of reason and proportionality" in seeking information from third parties. A representative from eBay and its attorneys at Quinn Emanuel did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Lawyers for eBay contend the company doesn't compete with Meta on social networking but does face off over the Facebook Marketplace e-commerce service. The case is Federal Trade Commission v. While remote work offers flexibility, it often comes at the cost of maintaining a work-life balance. Remote work has also made it possible to hire anyone anywhere, which CEOs and hiring managers are starting to realize. Tech companies are offshoring jobs, due to America's broken immigration system, and remote work is making it easier. American tech companies are offshoring jobs, but it isn't all because of remote work. He says remote work led to all of this in the first place.
Meta will lay off 10,000 more workers and incur restructuring costs ranging from three to five billion dollars, the company announced Tuesday, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg warning that economic instability could continue for "many years." He added that the company plans to close 5,000 additional open roles that it hasn't yet filled. The new round of layoffs follow a previous round of cuts, announced in November, that affected over 11,000 workers, which equated to roughly 13% of Meta's overall staff. Zuckerberg told analysts in February that the Meta plans "on cutting projects that aren't performing or may no longer be crucial" while simultaneously "removing layers of middle management to make decisions faster." In January, Google revealed plans to lay off more than 12,000 workers, Microsoft announced plans to cut 10,000 employees and Salesforce said it planned to cut 7,000 jobs.
When federal regulators stepped in to guarantee deposits at Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank late Sunday (more on that here), the goal was simple: Ease the public concerns and calm the markets. Silicon Valley Bank was shut down by regulators on Friday. So about that auction... SVB Financial Group, the parent company of Silicon Valley Bank, is still looking for a buyer. Silicon Valley Bank's UK arm was sold to HSBC for roughly $1 (no, I'm not missing any zeros). Silicon Valley Bank died so interest-rate hikes would stop.
