The group most directly affected by restrictions on abortion — women of reproductive age — are broadly against them, new survey results have found. Nearly half of Republican women of reproductive age said abortion should be legal in most or all cases. The report released Wednesday focuses more narrowly on how women of reproductive age view abortion, based on 3,900 responses. KFF’s survey results in Florida suggest that 72% of reproductive-age women there think abortion should be legal, including roughly half of Republican women. Frederiksen said her research shows that many women are unaware of or misinformed about their states’ abortion landscapes.

“The 2024 Cody Stampede Parade promises to be an unforgettable celebration of American independence, led by one of comedy’s most beloved figures,” the Cody Enterprise reported. In an editorial published Monday, Enterprise Editor Chris Bacon said he “failed to catch” the AI copy and false quotes. “It matters not that the false quotes were the apparent error of a hurried rookie reporter that trusted AI. It was my job,” Bacon wrote. Another story — about a poaching sentencing — included quotes from a wildlife official and a prosecutor that sounded like they came from a news release, Baker said.

General view of the UBS building in Manhattan, New York City, on June 5, 2023. Swiss banking giant UBS on Wednesday smashed net profit expectations for the second quarter, as revenue came in higher than expected. Net profit attributable to shareholders came in at $1.136 billion for the period, versus a company-compiled consensus forecast of $528 million. UBS had swung back to profit in the first quarter after two quarterly losses, but it warned that its net interest income would fall in both its global wealth management and its personal and corporate banking divisions. It has now been over a year since UBS completed the legal takeover of Credit Suisse, triggering a huge integration process and forming a wealth management juggernaut.

The mob was growing, encircling the hotel near the northern English town of Rotherham where asylum seekers were living. Abdulmoiz, an asylum seeker in his 20s from Sudan, said he watched from an upstairs window with other men trapped inside. All they could do was pray and wait, he said, as the men outside began attacking the building, throwing objects, breaking windows and chanting, “Get them out.” Some of the attackers tried to set fire to the building. “People were in a panic,” said Abdulmoiz, who asked to be identified only by his first name to avoid jeopardizing his asylum claim, and who spoke just days after the attack through an interpreter. “If the people outside didn’t kill us,” he feared, “the smoke would.”

New York City has also seen a surge in bicycling since the pandemic caused many to avoid mass transit and ride shares. And the funding for the Streets Plan — more than $900 million — has already been allocated to DOT. The city streets were designed to maximize vehicle speed rather than to get as many New Yorkers around as efficiently and safely as possible. While New York City streets have generally gotten safer since the city adopted its 'Vision Zero' plan in 2014 to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries in 2014, progress hasn't been consistent. Google faces a reckoningShares in Alphabet, Google’s parent company, were down in premarket trading on Wednesday on news that the Justice Department is said to be considering breaking up the technology giant for maintaining an illegal search monopoly. That would be a devastating blow for the company, but it could also have huge ramifications for the broader tech sector, with Apple, Amazon and Meta all facing their own antitrust battles with the government. A recap: In a ruling last week, Judge Amit Mehta of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia agreed with the government and multiple states that Google’s dominance in search was constraining competition. Google said it would appeal. Mehta has asked both parties to submit suggested remedies by Sept. 4, with a hearing set to take place two days later.
