watch nowThe benefits of time away from workMore employers are recognizing the need to reduce employee burnout, as employees report overall better mental health, increased job satisfaction, and being more engaged and productive upon returning from vacation. Yet it's still a challenge for many workers to disengage from the office. "In order to maintain your overall health, you need to take time for yourself time to replenish, time to recharge yourself and time to disconnect," said Michelle Bonam, Ceridian's vice president of organizational effectiveness. Why some professionals don't take time offFear of missing out is one reason why many professionals stay plugged in or don't take vacation time. Bramlette, who was a Green Beret on a counter-Russia mission and an Army Ranger in Iraq and Afghanistan, said fighting in Ukraine had much more unknowns. Renphoto | E+ | Getty ImagesWhat homeowners and renters insurance likely coverThe typical homeowners insurance policy has two coverage areas. The second is for liability; this covers you if you're liable for injury or property damage to another person, perhaps a friend or neighbor harmed by an errant firework. Fireworks caused $59 million in direct property damage in 2021, according to the most recent data from the National Fire Protection Association. Homeowners policies generally cover fire damage, whether to the house, patio furniture or other property, Passmore said. Insurance policies generally carry exclusions.

The idea is that pension funds will allocate more risk to younger cohorts and less to those nearer retirement. The new rules also mean pension funds can be less strict in protecting against swings in interest rates and exchange rates using derivatives like swaps. Commerzbank expects a "seismic" change to the market, where Dutch pension funds are key players. Pension funds are surveying their members to understand how much risk different age groups are willing to take. Ultimately, interest rates determine how much risk pension funds need to take to generate future payments.

Or at least, I saw Sakamoto's digital avatar perform in a darkened room with a Magic Leap 2 headset clamped to my face. Some technical issues aside, the experience showed me the potential that AR has to transform the entertainment industry. Expansion to Nigeria, Williams said, is a first step on the path to further international growth. In Nigeria, SoLo Funds has already connected with Paga, a mobile payment company, Platform Capital, an African investing firm based in Nigeria, and Endeavor, an entrepreneurial community network. SoLo Funds users have the opportunity to lend small amounts of money, ranging from $50-$1,000, to peers on the platform. That mission has not come without controversy, and allegations that SoLo Funds is creating a new form of predatory short-term lending. The complexity of lending regulation in the U.S. on a state-by-state basis has prepared SoLo Funds for the equally complex international launch.

McAfee also found that over one-third of victims lost more than $1,000 in AI scams, with 7% losing more than $5,000. He had donated generously to Democratic politicians from the US Virgin Islands for years. With the assistance of the US Virgin Islands' first lady, Epstein navigated the territory's political waters unscathed. Artificial intelligence algorithms are increasingly being used in financial services — but they come with some serious risks around discrimination. And the problem of amplifying existing biases can be even more severe when it comes to banking and financial services. As for financial services, Manji said a lot of the backend data systems are fragmented in different languages and formats. "Individuals have little knowledge of how AI systems work and that their individual case may, in fact, be the tip of a systems-wide iceberg. Among the top worries industry insiders expressed are misinformation; racial and gender bias embedded in AI algorithms; and "hallucinations" generated by ChatGPT-like tools.

AI tools may be able to predict your political views, according to a new study. Researchers found that AI links right-wing views to people who look happy and women deemed "attractive." The ability to accurately predict someone's political leanings presents a "threat to privacy." AI may be able to predict your political views based on how you look — and that could cause issues down the line, new research suggests. The purpose of the March study, researchers wrote, "was to demonstrate the significant privacy threat posed by the intersection of deep learning techniques and readily-available photographs."

SYDNEY, June 15 (Reuters) - An Australian senator on Thursday said she was followed, aggressively propositioned and inappropriately touched by another senator in parliament house, and called on the government to make the building safer for women. "I experienced sexual comments and was inappropriately propositioned by powerful men," Thorpe told the Senate, where her comments are protected by parliamentary privilege. Thorpe made the comments on Thursday, after the previous day accusing Liberal Party senator David Van of harassing and sexually assaulting her during the previous parliamentary term. "I will fully cooperate with the investigators and answer any questions that they may have of me and Senator Thorpe should do the same," Van said. Thorpe's claims follow numerous reports of sexual abuse and misconduct in parliament, which led to an independent inquiry into parliamentary workplace culture which found one in three people working there had experienced sexual harassment.

Netflix's password-sharing crackdown has had a solid start in the US, according to new data. You might not like it, but Netflix's password-sharing crackdown is off to a great start in the US, according to new data. The change was meant to stop the proverbial ex-boyfriend's cousin's friend from continuing to watch someone's Netflix account. Antenna said average sign-ups to Netflix reached 73,000 during that period, a 102% increase from the prior 60-day average. Cancellations also increased, though not as much as sign-ups, Antenna said, adding that the ratio of sign-ups to cancellations was up 25.6% versus the prior 60-day period.

In other words, the lessons learned from months or years of experience are baked into an AI tool. The rise of AI tools could help millions of new software developersMicrosoft CEO Satya Nadella for example recently told Time that AI tools could lower the barriers to entry for software developers. This doesn't mean the great software developers won't remain great software developers but the ability for more people to enter the field will increase. That's good news for many wannabe software developers, but it's also bad news for many existing ones. For some people, reading in the car is a great way to pass the time. For others, it's a one-way ticket to motion sickness. It happens when your eyes focus on a stationary object but your inner ear experiences movement. To find out why reading while in a moving vehicle suddenly makes some people nauseous, Insider spoke with neuropsychiatrist Dr. Ooha Susmita. But there's bad news for book lovers who do get carsick: Susmita recommends that anyone who feels motion sickness should limit or altogether avoid reading while in the car.

He explains that companies say they want efficient teams but don't reward those who create them. Southern also says that managers add headcount when seeking a promotion and bloat the company. By hiring more team members, the manager's scope would naturally increase which increased the odds of being promoted. And efficient teams aren't actually helping them get there. This is why so many leaders first look to add more headcount instead of first looking to make the organization more efficient.

This is a boring way to intro ourselves to new people. After getting to know everyone's name, one of the most common follow-ups is, "So what do you do?" And instinctively, people reply with their job and talk about their company, their role, and their day-to-day responsibilities. But when someone is talking about something they're super passionate about, your ears can't help but perk up. Instead of learning something about how someone's work cafeteria had some drama last week, you'll likely learn something brand new and get to know the person even better.

While employer-provided mental health benefits have been rising over the last few years, mental health continues to be a chronic problem with half of workers experiencing anxiety symptoms and over half of workers having depression symptoms, according to Deloitte's 2022 Mental Health in the Workplace report, which surveyed 3,995 people across 12 industries. In light of Mental Health Awareness Month, companies need to be intentional about choosing health and insurance plans that offer mental health resources, according to Grace Chang, CEO and co-founder of Kintsugi, a company that developed an AI-backed tool that detects signs of depression and anxiety by listening to someone's voice. After spending years trying to access mental health resources through her employer-sponsored insurance plans, Chang saw an opportunity to create mental health access using AI. "Some individuals just need help with day-to-day stressors, and AI tools like chatbots can point them to on-demand resources," Roberts said. AI helps employees get mental health diagnoses

Each and every day, political campaigns send out fundraising requests via email and text messages. "It's an accepted part of fundraising that you're going to ruffle feathers," said one political consultant. Increasingly, consumers are drowning in a sea of spam messages and scams from political campaigns, and experts said it's not going to change anytime soon. And while they themselves said they get annoyed by the flood of spam messages, political campaigners said that annoying voters is simply part of the job. After the RNC repeatedly lobbied Google to drop its spam filter for political spam, the company briefly acquiesced before changing its mind after the 2022 midterm elections.

Economists expect such examples to become increasingly common in coming years, as a glut of university graduates and a shortage of factory labour due to an ageing workforce deepen China's job market imbalances.
