Summary This content was produced in Russia where the law restricts coverage of Russian military operations in UkraineMOSCOW, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Russia will allow Belarus to postpone debt payments totalling $1.4 billion for 10 years, while also setting a fixed interest rate, according to draft laws approved by Russian lower house of parliament, or Duma, on Tuesday. At the start of the year, Belarus has asked Russia to restructure and refinance Minsk's 2022 debt obligations and Moscow would move all payments, redemptions and debt servicing due between March 2022 and April 2023 to 2028-2033, Timur Maksimov, Russian deputy finance minister, told Duma. Russia would also fix the interest rate at 12% per year instead of a floating rate tied to Russian OFZ rouble bond yields used before, he added. Belarus is Russia's ally in what the Kremlin calls "special military operation" in Ukraine which the Moscow launched in February. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File PhotoNov 17 (Reuters) - After major crypto exchange FTX filed for U.S. bankruptcy protection on Friday, the crypto industry is bracing for further fallout. While the extent of the contagion across crypto markets remains unclear, here are some firms that have given information about their exposure to FTX. GENESISThe crypto lending arm of U.S. digital asset broker Genesis Trading suspended customer redemptions on Wednesday, citing the sudden failure of FTX. It said it had no exposure to FTT, no exposure to Alameda Research and no loans to FTX. COINSHARESCrypto asset manager CoinShares has $30.3 million worth of exposure to crypto exchange FTX, CoinShares said in a statement on Nov. 10.
Until a few days ago, Sam Bankman-Fried was the king of crypto. “I’m sorry I didn’t do better,” Bankman-Fried said Tuesday in a message to investors reviewed by NBC News. The contentions of the people who spoke with NBC News are echoed in a 2019 lawsuit brought in federal court against FTX Alameda, Bankman-Fried and other executives. But the crypto market does not have the protections or price transparency found in listed stock markets, for example. FTX and Alameda, as a major crypto exchange and market maker, attracted crypto developers to list their projects for trading.

Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin, has surged in popularity in the past two years. Now that tether has broken the buck again, questions are swirling about whether the stablecoin can maintain investor confidence in the midst of the meltdown in the cryptocurrency market. Tether fell as low as 97.7 cents Thursday, according to CoinDesk, after which it quickly rebounded to its intended $1 peg. Paolo Ardoino , chief technology officer of Tether Holdings Ltd., said on Twitter that it had been processing redemptions with “no issues” and “we keep going.”

Unlike past schemes to support the lira, the central bank no longer needs to constantly tap its own reserves, according to 10 bankers and economists and one Turkish official. The central bank declined to comment for this article, but senior officials and President Tayyip Erdogan have regularly praised the new regulations. Bankers' calculations show the central bank has obtained about $100 billion this year under the new policy. Yet the central bank told bank executives this week it will continue with its regulations and policies, despite their criticism, according to sources at the meetings.
There may be some pain ahead for mutual fund investors in the form of capital gains taxes. "That means funds that have suffered steep falls this year could still distribute capital gains to investors," Welch said. John Hancock will pay double-digit capital gains distributions on several of its funds. Almost a dozen Nuveen funds will make 5% to 10% capital gains distributions, while twice that number of T. Rowe price funds will pay out between 4% and 21%. Passively managed funds may have distributions but they tend to be smaller than actively managed funds, Benz pointed out.

Nov 10 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday tentatively settled civil charges against an Infinity Q Capital Management mutual fund over its founder's alleged scheme to inflate the fund's value. In papers filed in federal court in Manhattan, the SEC and Infinity Q Diversified Alpha Fund asked a judge to appoint a special master to oversee the fund's ongoing liquidation. Attorneys for the fund and Infinity Q did not immediately reply to requests for comment. Before it suspended investor redemptions in February 2021, the Diversified Alpha Fund's assets were valued at $1.73 billion. The case is SEC v. Tether briefly lost its dollar peg on Thursday after the implosion of FTX shook the confidence of the entire crypto market. Tether is the third largest cryptocurrency with a current market value of about $70 billion. The development is unsettling because it adds to concerns of contagion spreading throughout the crypto market as trust declines considerably. Tether, which is the third largest cryptocurrency and the world's largest stablecoin, fell to a low of $0.98 in Thursday morning trades before it recovered most of those losses. Responding to the downfall of FTX, Tether co-founder William Quigley told CNBC on Wednesday that crypto exchanges and currencies shouldn't lever up highly volatile assets with debt.

BRASILIA, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Brazil's federal public debt fell for the third consecutive month in September, official data showed on Wednesday, with the net redemption of bonds again reducing the government's liquidity reserve. According to the Treasury, bond redemptions exceeded issuances by 76.4 billion reais ($14.29 billion). At the same time, interest payments on public debt reached 47.2 billion reais. As a result, the stock of federal public debt fell by 29.4 billion reais over August to 5.752 trillion reais. Given the recent inflationary relief in Brazil, the yield on inflation-linked bonds decreased, leading the average interest rate on the issuance of domestic federal debt to fall to 11.7% in September from 11.9% in August.
