The S & P 500 rallied to all-time highs this week after the Federal Reserve issued its first interest rate decrease in four years. Said another way, when looking historically, Subramanian found "no relationship" between returns ahead of the Fed's first cut and 12-month forward performance. On top of that, she said the S & P 500 sitting near a 52-week high heading into the cut has mattered "even less." The S & P 500 has climbed 11% on average over the year following an initial rate cute.

The NAACP plans to spend $20 million encouraging Black Americans, a critical voting bloc in the presidential race, to turn out to vote across 12 states this fall. The NAACP’s campaign is not geared toward benefiting specific candidates, but rather is designed to broadly mobilize and educate Black voters ahead of the 2024 election. The group plans to engage more than 14.5 million Black voters. While Black voters traditionally overwhelmingly support Democrats, the margin of victory and turnout levels among the group can make a major difference. Stocks surged to open Thursday trading in the wake of the Federal Reserve’s announcement that it was lowering interest rates by half a percentage point. It used to be that you saw a stretch limousine and excitedly wondered who was inside — maybe a corporate executive or a celebrity or some other classy, mysterious type. The limo industry isn't dead; it's just leaving the classic black stretch version of itself behind. Trade shows and expos for limousines and luxury transportation no longer have many, if any, actual classic stretch limos on their floors. Activist investor Politan Capital won the two board seats it was seeking at medical technology company Masimo , defeating founder and CEO Joe Kiani and another director, Chris Chavez, at the shareholder vote. Politan nominees Darlene Solomon and Bill Jellison will join Politan investment chief Quentin Koffey and former Johnson & Johnson executive Michelle Brennan, who obtained board seats in a prior proxy fight last year. The extended proxy fight was marked by a fierce legal battle. The victory for Politan will likely result in the departure of CEO Kiani as well as operating chief Bilal Muhsin. Moscow — Vladislav Bakalchuk, the estranged husband of Russia’s richest woman, was arrested and charged with murder Thursday, his lawyers said, after a deadly shootout at the Moscow office of Russia’s largest online retailer. Two people were killed in a shooting Wednesday just a few blocks away from the Kremlin at the Wildberries office, as a dispute over the company’s future took a violent turn. Tatyana founded Wildberries, Russia’s answer to Amazon, in 2004, growing it from an online clothes reseller into a major marketplace for all kinds of goods.
