WASHINGTON, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Virginia "Ginni" Thomas, wife of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, met on Thursday with the congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Thomas was seen going into the meeting room in a House office building that is used by the House of Representatives Select Committee for its interviews. The panel's chairperson, Democratic Representative Bennie Thompson, had told reporters on Wednesday that Thomas would appear before the panel this week. As of Tuesday, the systemic deficit stood at 218 billion rupees, its highest since May 2019, with tax outflows in past week also squeezing liquidity. "Unless we see reasonable improvement in the balance of payment deficit, liquidity tightness will continue to persist," said Soumyajit Niyogi, director at India Ratings. "Markets are making very volatile moves," Kanda, vice finance minister for international affairs, told reporters. "We cannot tolerate excess volatility and disorderly currency moves," he said when asked about the yen's recent slide to fresh 24-year lows. Kanda declined to comment, when asked whether authorities conducted rate checks in the foreign exchange market.

LOS ANGELES — A former dean at the University of Southern California pleaded guilty Monday in a bribery case involving a powerful Los Angeles politician who promised to help steer a multi-million contract to the school if his son got a scholarship and a teaching job.
