Being able to skip multiple long lines every day is a big time saver for my family. For us, that meant splurging on Genie+, a paid skip-the-line service that works at both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Two-day admission to the theme parks already costs over $300 a person, and on our two-day vacation, my family spent an extra $180 ($30 a person per day) on Genie+.

Congress last month approved the fiscal year 2024 funding level for FEMA’s Shelter and Services Program in the federal funding package, nearly six months into the fiscal year. Rep. Joaquin Castro, a Democrat who represents San Antonio, said that immigration is a federal responsibility. “Funding from the Shelter and Services Program (SSP) has helped Catholic Charities and other groups in my city of San Antonio offer basic migrant services without straining local resources. “Due to the substantial demand that exceeds the limited SSP program funding authorized by Congress, not all requests can be fulfilled,” a DHS spokesperson told CNN. The Migrant Resource Center opened in July 2022 as a temporary place for migrants traveling through San Antonio.

Taipei CNN —The Taroko National Park in eastern Taiwan, a popular destination for domestic and international tourists alike, will close until further notice, after the island was struck by the strongest earthquake in 25 years last week. “All levels of trails and facilities within the Taroko National Park jurisdiction have been damaged. The 920-square-kilometer (9,990 square foot) area was declared a National Park of Taiwan in 1986. In an interview with Taiwan’s official Central News Agency, deputy director of the Taroko National Park Headquarters Lin Chung-shan said the Hehuan Mountain area, which lies partially within the park, was relatively less impacted and will gradually reopen. The Taroko National Park attracted 3.45 million visitors in 2023, according to statistics provided by the Hualien Tourism Department.

I worked as a park ranger at state and national parks for six years. I also love parks like Shenandoah National Park, Congaree National Park, and Yosemite National Park. CNN —The tiny, remote Italian island of Alicudi is home to only around 100 residents and, ideally, about 100 wild goats. According to the Sicilian regional government, the goats were introduced to the island around 20 years ago by a farmer who then set them free. For years, the animals—which are not owned by anyone—grazed autonomously on the sides of Alicudi’s cliffs and are featured in almost any postcard from the volcanic island. “We have heard from dozens of people since we first announced this,” Gullo said, including a farmer from the nearby island of Vulcano, who produces goat cheese. Once the goats have been apportioned, the goat-taker has 15 days to catch and remove them from the island.

CNN —An elderly American woman was killed in Zambia after an elephant charged at a vehicle carrying tourists in Kafue National Park. “This is a tragic event and we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the guest who died,” he said.
