Smith came from four shots behind at St Andrews to win the 150th British Open last year, becoming the first Australian to do so since Greg Norman in 1993. I thought I was going to do all right but I was actually holding back from tears. A bit of a moment that crept up on me," Smith told reporters. When he was told he could win it back on Sunday, Smith laughed and added: "That would be nice. "For a little country club outside of Brisbane to have the Claret Jug in it was a pretty cool moment," he added.

Some will say the case is not broad or bold enough, that Mr. Trump and the other alleged national ringleaders should have been charged as well. Others will say Ms. Nessel cast too wide a net, pulling in low-level party functionaries who did not know better. Ms. Nessel got it just right, prosecuting crimes firmly within her jurisdiction, while opening the way for federal authorities to net even bigger fish. Ms. Nessel brought the same eight counts against all 16 defendants. Until now there have been no charges centered on the fake electors plot.

So it was not so much of a shock to pitch in the Coliseum, because it reminded all of us of the Polo Grounds. His identity is his comment: positive thinking. CNN —House Speaker Kevin McCarthy faces a challenge Friday morning: A razor thin margin to get a must-pass defense policy bill over the finish line with a majority of Democrats signaling they cannot support the version of the legislation crafted by conservative Republicans. The bill – known as the National Defense Authorization Act – sets the policy agenda and authorizes funding for the Department of Defense. If they lose that many members, it would greatly increase the prospects that Republicans could muscle the bill through. Without Democratic support, Republicans will need to wrangle nearly every member of the GOP conference in order to get the bill over the finish line. Many Democrats made clear ahead of the vote that if the amendment was included as part of the defense bill, they would be unlikely to support final passage.

Big questions remain, especially as to why the PGA Tour took the Saudi money without looking elsewhere. The PGA Tour's deal with LIV Golf and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) is just an agreement to seek an agreement. This all started when LIV Golf, with golf legend Greg Norman at the lead, started offering PGA Tour players vast sums of money to jump to the new Saudi-backed golf league. The PGA Tour, a non-profit, just did not have the resources to compete with the deep pockets of the Saudis. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan has yet to testify before Congress.

Congress grilled the PGA about its bid to merge with LIV Golf and accept Saudi Arabian investment. As PGA Tour board member Jimmy Dunne put it, "There is simply an agreement to try to get to an agreement." LIV Golf would only play in the fall and not overlap with the heart of the PGA Tour season. What makes the demand even stranger is that the PGA Tour almost certainly does not have the power to grant this. After all, despite the initial fight between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, none of the defecting players were being withheld from competing in the majors.

CNN —Prior to a truce between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf last month, an adviser to the Saudi Public Investment Fund proposed that Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy could own LIV Golf teams and play in the Saudi-backed tour, according to a 276-page report released by the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations on Tuesday. In an April 26 meeting, PCP Capital Partners, a Saudi PIF adviser, presented a slideshow to PGA Tour board member Jimmy Dunne and PGA Tour Policy Board Chairman Edward Herlihy entitled “The Best of Both Worlds.”The slideshow proposed that McIlroy and Woods would own LIV Golf teams and participate in at least 10 LIV Golf events, documents showed. A May 24 email also revealed PGA Tour officials intended to fire LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman after the merger. Norman has been an advocate for the rival Saudi tour and a fierce public critic of the PGA Tour. The framework agreement between the Saudis and the PGA Tour needs to be approved by the PGA Tour’s 10-member policy board.

The long days of summer, with their inevitable vacation road trips, need not always lead to the mountains or the beach. For those whose passion is automobiles, events of endless variety present equally powerful attractions. Spanning a broad range that includes formal concours d’elegance in country club settings as well as impromptu parking-lot cruise nights, there are gatherings to satisfy most enthusiasts. By this point in the season, a few significant shows have already ended, but the calendar of major car, truck and motorcycle gatherings extends well into fall. Other events offer fans the chance to wander through acres of historic racecars.

The PGA Tour sought the ouster of Greg Norman, the two-time British Open champion who became the commissioner of the insurgent LIV Golf league, as a condition of its alliance with Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, according to records that a Senate subcommittee released on Tuesday. The tour and the wealth fund did not ultimately agree to the proposal — crafted as a so-called side letter to a larger framework agreement — and, for now, Norman remains atop LIV. But the deliberations reflect an enmity forged over decades of hostilities between the tour and Norman, one of the most talented players in professional golf history who often chafed at the sport’s economic structure. And they underscore the tensions that could linger if the deal closes. The glimpse into the negotiations between the tour and the wealth fund came as the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations began its first hearing into the arrangement, which calls for the business ventures of the tour, the wealth fund and the DP World Tour to be brought into a new, for-profit company.

The PGA Tour on Tuesday defended its controversial deal with the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league before senators, as scrutiny of the agreement intensifies. Representatives from LIV Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund wasn't present at the hearing because CEO Greg Norman is out of the country, according to a spokesperson. PGA Tour operating chief Ron Price and policy board independent director Jimmy Dunne testified before the Senate Homeland Security Committee's subcomittee on investigations. Dunne and Price said they believed the PGA Tour would benefit the most from the proposed deal. The PGA Tour would manage competitions, and has said it is leading the negotiations to reach a finalized deal.

However, your loss is unlimited, depending on how high a stock's price could rally. Since the stock's price was below $2, he waited for a reversal for confirmation. The short interest rate could indicate how many traders are trying to short a stock.

July 6 (Reuters) - Australian retailers are in for a sombre period this fiscal year as high interest rates squeeze household budgets, especially for discretionary spending, Citigroup said on Thursday, with expected further rate hikes likely to dent confidence even more. The brokerage cut its fiscal 2024 earnings forecast for electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi (JBH.AX), fashion retailer Premier Investments (PMV.AX), auto parts retailer Super Retail (SUL.AX), and retail conglomerate Wesfarmers (WES.AX). "It appears the two recent rate rises (in May and June) following the April pause has been the final straw, pushing some consumers to restrain their spending," Citi analysts Adrian Lemme and James Wang wrote in a note. They estimate the high rates have pushed up net household interest expense by around A$30 billion over five years through 2024. "Given Citi forecasts another two rate rises, we think confidence will remain depressed for now," the analysts said.

The PGA Tour, DP World Tour and rival Saudi-backed LIV circuit, which had been involved in a bitter fight that split the sport, announced an agreement in early June to merge and form a unified commercial entity. The LIV Golf series is bankrolled by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIV). Blumenthal and Johnson said they had asked Greg Norman, CEO of LIV Golf, and Yasir al-Rumayyan, governor of the Saudi Public Investment Fund which backs LIV, to testify, but they had declined because of scheduling conflicts.

Two top PGA officials will testify before Congress about the association's controversial merger. Tour COO Rob Price is among the officials that will testify before a Senate subcommittee on July 11. "We look forward to appearing before the Senate Subcommittee to answer their questions about the framework agreement that keeps the PGA TOUR as the leader of professional golf's future and benefits our players, our fans, and our sport," PGA Tour spokesperson Joel Schuchmann said in a statement to Insider. Norman played an integral role in LIV golf, enduring public criticism for taking on the PGA and partnering with Al-Rumayyan. For example, if a stock's price is below the VWAP, it may lure many traders into shorting it, he said. Since Sykes trades penny stocks with less trading volume, he uses indicators that help him determine whether his theses will play out. However, its importance is inferior to the above criteria because the catalyst could move a stock's price in either direction. On the morning of December 1, 2022, the stock's price plunged, creating a pattern he calls a morning panic. This trade fit Sykes' criteria because it had attention on it as a catalyst and created a pattern he trades.

For a more low-key performance, Ms. Matlock favors a karaoke spot, like Red Brick Bar, a place where “whatever you are is cool” and everyone cheers equally for rock, country and R&B numbers. Yet some Democrats, including current and former Biden administration officials, privately saw it as an unnecessary poke-the-bear gesture. Had he been advising Mr. Biden, Mr. Eisen said, he would have warned him about “the flak they were going to take” but added that it would be a matter of optics, rather than rules. “That’s probably more of a question for an etiquette czar than an ethics czar,” he said. “Certainly, there’s no violation of any ethics rule as long as they didn’t talk about the case.”The White House said Mr. Biden was simply being a father. “In all administrations, regardless of party, it’s common for presidential family members to attend state dinners and to accompany presidents to Camp David,” Andrew Bates, a White House spokesman, said on Tuesday.
