Vice President Kamala Harris called the rate cut “welcome news,” while former President Donald Trump suggested, without evidence, that the decision could be politically motivated. With less than 50 days until Election Day, another question has emerged: Will the rate cut matter to voters? In fact, they already have – mortgages are based on bond yields, which have fallen in recent weeks in anticipation of a rate cut. Harris responded to the rate cut by saying she’s focused on bringing down prices. This story has been updated with reaction to the Fed’s rate cut announcement.

Musk’s own post has been earmarked with a crowd-sourced “community notes” fact-check that makes clear the claim was false. X did not respond to a CNN request for comment Wednesday on Musk’s posts. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters on Wednesday announced it will not formally endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, ending months of speculation about whether the labor union would back Republican Donald Trump or Democrat Kamala Harris. With 1.3 million members, the Teamsters union is one of the largest labor groups in the country. "As the strongest and most democratic labor union in America, it was vital for our members to drive this endorsement process. In a national survey of Teamsters members conducted after the Sept. 10 presidential debate, union members overwhelmingly backed Trump over Harris, 58% to 31%, according to results published by the union ahead of its formal endorsement. "'Right to work' laws only exist to try to kill labor unions," Teamsters General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman said in the statement.

New York CNN —With its line-up of sweet snacks, Hershey isn’t known as a purveyor of diet foods. As the use of weight-loss drugs — notably Ozempic and Wegovy — grows, the 130-year-old confectionery company is adjusting to this new era by pushing further into the wellness category with protein powders and energy drinks in popular candy flavors. Hershey’s namesake milk chocolate and Reese’s peanut butter and chocolate will soon be sold as protein powders and its Jolly Rancher candies will be turned into bubbly energy drinks. Energy drinks, which are most often bought by millennial and Gen Z customers, have “a lot of affinity” with Hershey’s products, Cunningham told CNN. The news from Bloomberg that billionaire Point72 founder and legendary stockpicker Steve Cohen will no longer trade his book for the $35 billion fund Tuesday is paradoxically both shocking and expected. Of the big multi-strategy managers, the fact Cohen was still managing a book set him apart from his main competitors. Will there be another Steve Cohen? Cohen launched SAC with $20 million in 1992; new funds today need exponentially more to justify leaving seats at funds like Point72. Fictional hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis, was loosely based on Steve Cohen.

New York CNN —Wednesday is National Cheeseburger Day, with some of the biggest chains offering some much-needed discounts amid consumer complaints about rising prices. It’s part of company’s string of deals to kickstart slumping sales, including recently extending its popular $5 value meal until December. Fast food has been a low-profit margin business with little customer loyalty. McDonald’s pricey burgers have become a flashpoint of criticism and a symbol of elevated fast food prices. So deals are particularly crucial to fast food companies at the moment to lure customers back.
