With tennis, the stakes felt higher when rankings points, global recognition, and prize money were on the line. Puig has swapped tennis rackets for running shoes over the past year. Johnny PaceBut the sense of personal satisfaction she gets from running has endured, helping to ease the lingering pain of her retirement from tennis. CNBC's Jim Cramer spoke to investors on Tuesday about the market's rally outside the tech sphere, as well as the morning's soft consumer price index report. To Cramer, Tuesday was a "jailbreak," with many leaving Treasurys behind to get back in the market, and others seeking to move money from tech to new, fast-growing stock. Cramer felt many did not appreciate the market's "ugly wins," or close-game wins, over the past few weeks. "The big-time strategists are finally beginning to warm up to this market," Cramer said. "When the standings are posted, those who came in today are truly the people who believe that they didn't miss Caterpillar, they didn't miss Apple, they didn't miss Microsoft, they didn't miss Oracle, they didn't even miss Nvidia, my dog," Cramer said.

GDANSK, June 11 (Reuters) - Poland's biggest video game producer CD Projekt (CDR.WA) will release a highly-anticipated expansion to its flagship game Cyberpunk 2077 called "Phantom Liberty" on Sept. 26, the company announced during the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday. The release will be CD Projekt's first major premiere since the bug-ridden launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. The trailer for the upcoming expansion was announced by Keanu Reeves, who will be back in the role of Johnny Silverhand. The expansion is the last project to be developed on CD Projekt's own technology RED Engine, with the company switching to external Unreal Engine for its upcoming developments. In September CD Projekt announced it had sold 20 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077.

“The classicist who wants to be modern, meeting the modernist who wants to be classical.” So says Elizabeth Taylor, summing up the fractious encounter between the revered Shakespearian actor John Gielgud, and her new husband, the actor Richard Burton. It’s 1964, Taylor and Burton are the most famous couple in the world, and Burton is rehearsing the role of Hamlet for a Broadway production that Gielgud is directing. It’s not going well. That’s the setting for “The Motive and the Cue,” a new play directed by Sam Mendes, written by Jack Thorne, and starring Mark Gatiss as Gielgud, Johnny Flynn as Burton and Tuppence Middleton as Taylor. The play, which opened to enthusiastic reviews in May and runs through July 15 at the National Theater, in London, was an idea born out of the pandemic, said Caro Newling, a co-founder with Mendes of Neal Street Productions, which developed the show.

A meeting of the word panel was held on Sunday at National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md., to finalize the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee words. Here is a guide to the rules for the Scripps National Spelling Bee — and their small changes for this year’s competition, including a shorter allotted time to answer. A speller advances through them by correctly spelling a word and answering a multiple-choice question about its meaning. After the pronouncer says the spelling word, the clock starts. If one speller is correct, that person will be given a spelling word drawn from the Championship Word List.

The win made Baffert the winningest trainer in Preakness Stakes history and the only trainer to have eight horses win the race. Blazing Sevens placed second, and prerace favorite and Kentucky Derby winner Mage placed third in the seven-horse field. The win means no horse will take home the coveted Triple Crown this year, achieved when a horse wins the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes in one year. National Treasure was ridden by Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez, who tallied his first win at the Preakness Stakes.

The Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival began this week with Maïwenn’s “Jeanne du Barry,” starring Johnny Depp as Louis XV, and ends on May 27 with a new Pixar film, “Elemental.” In between, there will be many screenings, many awkward standing ovations, many awards bestowed. Wes Anderson also has a new one, “Asteroid City,” about a junior stargazing convention. It features many members of the Andersonian repertory — Jason Schwartzman, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody and others. In “Firebrand,” from the Brazilian director Karim Aïnouz, Alicia Vikander plays Catherine Parr, the sixth and final wife of Henry VIII, who’s played by Jude Law. Hirokazu Kore-eda, whose film “Shoplifters” won the Palme d’Or in 2018, has a new film, “Monster.” It stars Sakura Ando from “Shoplifters,” and the composer Ryuichi Sakamoto, who died last month, did the score.
Andy Rourke, Bassist for the Smiths, Dies at 59

Andy Rourke, the bass player for the Smiths, one of the most influential bands of the 1980s, has died. His former bandmate Johnny Marr, the Smiths’s guitarist, announced Mr. Rourke’s death on social media and said that the cause was pancreatic cancer. He did not specify when or where Mr. Rourke died. “Andy will be remembered as a kind and beautiful soul,” Mr. Marr said, “and as a supremely gifted musician.”Mr. Rourke played on all of the British band’s most well-known songs, including “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” and “This Charming Man,” helping turn the Smiths into a cult act in the United States and a chart-topping group in his home country.
Shermane Billingsley was barely 2 years old when the Broadway gossip columnist Dorothy Kilgallen revealed that Shermane was bedridden with a fever of 104. Less than a year later, Walter Winchell reported that Shermane had vamped to an inquiring columnist, “I will break your heart someday with my big blue eyes!”She was still a tot when Johnny Weissmuller, the Olympic swimmer and movie Tarzan, was about to present her with a bunny on live television but froze; she filled the void by ad-libbing, “You know, my father once gave me two rabbits, and in a short time I had 200.”Shermane Billingsley, who died on April 16 in a Manhattan hospital, was the last living link to the storied Manhattan nightspot that made her such endearing fodder for the society pages, the Stork Club. She was the youngest daughter of its impresario, Sherman Billingsley, and after the club closed in 1965, she became the faithful guardian of its legacy for nearly six decades. Her son Austin Billingsley Drill said she died of cancer at 78. The family delayed the announcement of her death until this month, he said, to give them time to mourn.
Justin Thomas and Tiger Woods are so close that Tiger considers JT part of his family. Thomas is selling his 'starter' house in Jupiter, Florida, the home of many top golfers, including Tiger. The $3.5 million house has everything a wealthy young bachelor would want in a house. The property, dubbed Thomas' "starter house" by Golf Digest, is on the market for $3.5 million just months after he got married, and is being listed by former golfer Johnny DelPrete of Douglas Elliman Realty. So it's no surprise that the house for sale is just three miles from Tiger's home on Jupiter Island.
Presumably Johnny Depp, a heat-seeking target for the armies of paparazzi amassed here, helps explain the movie’s presence. The king is played by a powdered and bewigged Depp, who looks suitably indolent, though perhaps because he’s underused. The king is mainly there to look gaga at Jeanne, which he does a great deal, though it’s a tough call whether Louis lavishes as much attention on Jeanne as Maïwenn does. Among all the close-ups of Jeanne giggling, Maïwenn folds in some palace intrigue and the briefest nod at the terror to come. There’s some comfort that “Jeanne” isn’t contending for the Palme d’Or, which would be an embarrassment, but is being presented out of competition.

If nothing else, Cannes is a reminder that nearly every major figure in the French film industry has a sizable “controversy” section on Wikipedia.) “Of course, if you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing because of something that is merely a bunch of vowels and consonants floating in the air, yeah, you feel boycotted,” Depp said. “Do I feel boycotted now? But I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood because I don’t think about it. I don’t have much further need for Hollywood myself.”The 59-year-old Depp continued, “It’s a very strange, funny time where everybody would love to be able to be themselves but they can’t.

JAKARTA, May 17 (Reuters) - Indonesian authorities on Wednesday arrested a senior cabinet minister on corruption charges in a case they said caused more than half a billion dollars in state losses. Johnny G. Plate is the fifth minister in President Joko Widodo's administrations to be charged with corruption. Johnny was arrested "as a user of the budget and as a minister", said AGO official Kuntadi, without detailing the minister's specific role. Another official Ketut Sumedana said the minister allegedly violated Indonesia's corruption law, which carries a maximum life sentence. According to global graft watchdog Transparency International, Indonesia dropped four points on its corruption perception index last year to 110 out of 180 countries.
CNN —Johnny Depp was teary eyed after his film’s warm welcome at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday. Video shared on social media by Variety shows a visibly moved Depp during a seven minute ovation for his film, “Jeanne du Barry,” in which he stars as the former King of France Louis XV. It was the actor’s first film project since a defamation trial with his ex-wife Amber Heard last summer. A jury found them both liable for defamation in their lawsuits against each other, but awarded significantly more damages to Depp. “The film is a success, and Johnny Depp [as Louis XV] is magnificent in it.”

"I keep wondering about the word comeback, because I didn't go anywhere," Depp said after arriving 45 minutes later than scheduled at the news conference for the film on Wednesday. "Jeanne du Barry," in which Depp plays King Louis XV, received a seven-minute standing ovation at the luxurious Grand Theatre Lumiere, where it premiered on Tuesday evening.
