New York CNN —TikTok’s global trust and safety unit is getting a new leader, the company confirmed on Tuesday. Following Keenan’s move, TikTok’s global trust and safety unit will now fall under the leadership of Adam Presser, the company’s Los Angeles-based head of operations. However, TikTok’s trust and safety staff will otherwise remain in place as-is, according to the company. The leadership changes come as TikTok continues to face scrutiny in the United States, Europe and elsewhere over the safety and security of its platform. Around half of potential homebuyers say they can't afford a down payment and closing costs on a property in the U.S. because they don't make enough money and living costs are too high, a new Bankrate survey finds. Considering that down payments are often 20% of the home price, they represent a considerable upfront cost for most buyers. Closing costs, at usually about 3% to 6% of the mortgage loan, are often quite expensive too. Bankrate surveyed 864 U.S. adults January 2024 who are aspiring or prospective homeowners, which includes those who have owned a home in the past but currently don't, as well as first-time homebuyers. And as home prices continue to rise, the size of down payments are likely to grow as well.

A man identified by federal prosecutors as a leader of Japan’s Yakuza organized crime syndicate was charged on Wednesday with trafficking uranium and plutonium from Myanmar with the expectation that Iran would use the material to make nuclear weapons. The man, Takeshi Ebisawa, is accused of conspiring with a network of associates to sell the weapons-grade material and illegal narcotics and to buy surface-to-air missiles on behalf of an ethnic insurgent group in Myanmar, the country formerly known as Burma. “It is impossible to overstate the seriousness of the conduct alleged in today’s indictment,” Damian Williams, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan, said in announcing the charges. Mr. Ebisawa, 60, is being held in a federal jail in Brooklyn after being charged, along with three co-defendants, with international drug and weapons trafficking crimes in 2022. The average rate on a 30-year mortgage rose to 6.77% from 6.64% last week, mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday. Borrowing costs on 15-year fixed-rate mortgages, popular with homeowners refinancing their home loans, also rose this week, pushing the average rate to 6.12% from 5.90% last week. The average rate on a 30-year mortgage remains sharply higher than just two years ago, when it was 3.92%. Nearly two-thirds of American Jews feel less secure in the U.S. than they did a year ago, according to a new national survey.
