CNN —Nearly two months ago, CNN reached out to Melania Trump’s book publisher to request an interview with the former first lady ahead of her upcoming memoir. After several exchanges about a possible interview, the publisher sent an unusual demand last week: an interview would cost $250,000. Melania Trump’s spokesperson declined comment. Spokespeople for ABC, NBC and CBS declined to comment on whether they received a similar request for payment from Trump’s publisher. But in this case, the Trump campaign hasn’t been involved in Melania Trump’s book rollout.

New York CNN —The Middle East is in chaos, and the oil market is remarkably calm about it. The chill reaction in the oil market reflects a boy-who-cried-wolf mindset that has set in. Even just two years ago, oil prices skyrocketed to $130 a barrel in March 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine. Oil prices skyrocketed in 2019 when Saudi oil facilities were damaged in an attack that US officials blamed on Iran. A disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could send oil prices above $100 a barrel, according to ClearView.

Miller's team compared AI's growth with past tech waves, finding consistent growth rates. In fact, the generative-AI wave looks a lot more like past tech waves than its revolutionary capabilities would suggest. That "rule of three" theory puts the value of the AI wave at about $20 trillion. Miller likened the AI wave to the mobile wave in about 2009, when there were few applications for the iPhone. "So the question is if compute is the primary underlying driver of economic activity, economic growth, economic opportunity, then there's an argument that it's actually bigger."

But investing in the stock market should be boring rather than exciting. While some hands-on traders approach betting on the stock market similarly to betting money on sports, the truth is they should have very little in common. Compared to sports betting, investing in the stock market should be "non-adrenaline focused," Egan said. While an explosion of confetti might make trading stocks more entertaining, investing in the stock market should be boring. Historically, the average stock market return is about 10% each year.

I spent some time alone after things ended, but by the end of 2012, I was ready to re-embrace online dating. Within a few years, my fellow millennials and I were reportedly spending 10 hours a week on dating apps. "Dating apps are designed to be a miserable experience," Stephanie Rodgers, the founder of the forthcoming dating app Verb, said. Increasingly, it feels like dating apps make things more monotonous and cumbersome to incentivize us to pay for upgrades. And while dating apps' cost in terms of harassment, threats, and violence is paid disproportionately by women, its financial cost is disproportionately paid by men.

"Iran uses ballistic missiles as a replacement for aircraft," a regional expert said. Iran used more ballistic missiles than the 120 it launched during its April barrage, its first direct attack on Israel. Iran has also shown a preference for firing ballistic missiles against less-defended targets closer to home. Since 2017, Iran has also used its ballistic missiles against ISIS in Syria, following terrorist attacks in Iran and, on one occasion, alleged militant targets in Pakistan. In January 2024, Tehran even used ballistic missiles to destroy a businessman's residence in neighboring Iraqi Kurdistan.

People have died after drinking tea brewed from unwashed poppy seeds. Members of the House of Representatives and Senate have proposed legislation “to prohibit the distribution and sale of contaminated poppy seeds in order to prevent harm, addiction, and further deaths from morphine-contaminated poppy seeds.” The bill was one of several on the agenda for a September 10 House hearing. On the other hand, tea made from large quantities of unwashed poppy seeds could lead to addiction and overdose, doctors said. The US Drug Enforcement Administration said unwashed poppy seeds can kill when used alone or in combination with other drugs. The US Department of Justice has brought criminal prosecutions over the sale of unwashed poppy seeds.

As part of the settlement agreement, Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, was set to be an executive producer on “Rust” when it resumed filming. “Halyna’s story will serve as a starting point for a conversation about the role of women in cinematography and their contributions to the art of filmmaking,” festival organizers said of the premiere event.

JuvenescenceFasting, low-carb, high-fat diets like keto, and drinking ketone esters can all prompt ketones to circulate in a person's blood. Ketone ester drinks don't require the liver to convert fat into ketones, which is what happens with fasting and the keto diet. "If you were wanting to lose weight, you want to be burning your own fat and turning it into ketones," Stubbs said. Ketone drinks don't do that. Billionaire Jared Isaacman spent 2½ years training for a historic 10-minute spacewalk — while simultaneously running a nearly $8 billion company. Isaacman, 41, financed and commanded a SpaceX mission last month that featured the first-ever all-civilian spacewalk, during which he personally floated outside a Dragon space capsule. Isaacman, who has an estimated net worth of $1.5 billion, says he didn't take a leave of absence during those two-plus years of training. The trip was Isaacman's second space venture: In 2021, he financed and led the SpaceX team that became the world's first all-civilian crew to reach orbit. Once in space, the crew worked around the clock, conducting dozens of research experiments in five days while monitoring the capsule and its systems.
