Lucy Lawless is well aware of the "long shadow" her iconic role in "Xena: Warrior Princess" has cast over her career. Her latest, the Acorn TV series "My Life is Murder," is one example of a project Lawless fought to bring to life. On why getting cast as Xena was 'a great big cosmic joke'Lucy Lawless as Xena in "Xena: Warrior Princess." I don't think that would even be particularly mark-worthy these days, would it? “It’s not defensible.”Yet, even as he seeks to keep the spotlight on Biden’s debate shortcomings, Trump is also entering a critical three-week stretch full of potential race-defining moments that could further alter the stakes of the election. The Republican convention in Milwaukee will kick off a mere four days later. Leveraging these moments presents opportunities for Trump to seize media coverage beyond the debate and further bolster his campaign coffers. Before the debate had even ended, Trump’s campaign sent supporters a text message declaring he had “obliterated” Biden along with a link to purchase new apparel. “I’ve always been of the opinion that this decision would come before the convention,” one Trump ally said.

One result of this openness is a love of travel — I've visited 40 of the 50 United States and 25 countries (and counting). So, I still take an annual solo trip these days. Like many parts of parenting, traveling solo is a push-pull in two directions for me. Tiffany Nieslanik traveled all over Europe when she was younger, and it showed her that solo travel isn't scary. When that time comes, I don't want to have forgotten who I am outside "mom," and my annual solo trip helps me remember who that is.

They first appeared as a cloud of dust on the horizon. A few seconds later, the motorcycles carrying Russian soldiers sped into view, zigzagging across a field, kicking up dust, attempting a noisy, dangerous run at a Ukrainian trench. “They moved fast, they spread out and they swerved,” said Lt. Mykhailo Hubitsky, describing the Russian motorcycle assault he witnessed. It’s a type of attack that has been proliferating along the frontline this spring, adding a wild new element to the already violent, chaotic fighting. These nonconventional vehicles have been turning up with such frequency that some Ukrainian trenches now overlook junk yards of abandoned, blown up off-road vehicles, videos from reconnaissance drones show.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature reports 35% of all shark species are threatened with extinction. The primary reason is overfishing; shark meat and fins are highly sought. That research has helped expand the number of shark species now regulated by CITES. Cardeñosa said when he got started in the field, there were only five or six shark species regulated by the CITES agreement. How you can help sharksOne of the easiest ways to help sharks and all marine life is to try to consume seafood from sustainable sources.

Renowned psychologists John and Julie Gottman have interviewed 40,000 couples in quest to find out what makes love last. Through their research at The Gottman Institute, they've learned how successful relationships survive conflict and express affection. In an interview with psychotherapist and bestselling author Esther Perel, The Gottmans said one commonality most successful couples had was their ability to do "repairs." One of the Gottman's most concrete finding is that in successful couples, the ratio of positive to negative interactions during a conflict is five to one. And lo and behold: it was the couples who had maintained at least a five-to-one ratio (or more!)

CNN —CNN Opinion asked political contributors to weigh in on the first presidential debate of the 2024 race. We spent weeks planning a "cake party" for our other work friends. There's space for moderation, though, or even the chance to shed some work friendships for good.

CNN —The confrontation in Atlanta between Joe Biden and Donald Trump Thursday night has a good chance of becoming the most fateful presidential debate in US history. The momentous nature of this debate can only be fully understood against the backdrop of the unprecedented politics of the times. But the tension surrounding this year’s first debate in June, rather than in September or October as usual, is palpable. “The closer the election, the greater the chance that a debate could influence it,” said Aaron Kall, director of debate at the University of Michigan, who has conducted an in-depth study of every presidential debate. Biden has raised the stakes for himself heading into the debate higher than those any modern president faced.

Inflation’s Wild Ride

Coming into and through 2019, the economy was strong and the Consumer Price Index, a key measure of inflation, was low. For some, that seemed like a bad thing — economists worried that chronically low inflation could increase the risk of future economic stagnation. The Personal Consumption Expenditures index, a slightly delayed price measure that the Fed uses for its 2 percent inflation target, similarly fell. Within a few months, inflation began to pick up. Price jumps began to moderate even in service categories, which made economists hope that the deceleration might be the real deal.
