How GLP-1 drugs work Sorting through the facts reveals some likely winners and losers. LLY YTD mountain Eli Lilly shares year to date performance It is still early days for GLP-1 medications. Many have seen the rise of GLP-1 drugs as a threat to the medical device industry. Also, not all patients are able to tolerate GLP-1 drugs, which can cause side effects such as nausea. Among other medtech stocks, Plovanic sees GLP-1 drugs as an "incremental positive" for Dexcom, which makes continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), but an "incremental negative" for insulin pump makers like Insulet.

Such areas are often referred to as "bond proxies" for their strong, stable dividends, which over the past decade have usually exceeded Treasury yields. But surging bond yields have dulled the appeal of bond proxies. As a result, shares of bond proxies have taken an outsize hit in recent weeks. The S&P 500 utilities sector (.SPLRCU) has tumbled 13% since last month’s Fed meeting. In a Thursday interview with CNBC's Jim Cramer, Constellation Brands CEO Bill Newlands highlighted the past quarter's success in its beer brands and said the company has been shifting its focus from mainstream to higher-end brands. Constellation reported earnings Thursday, with its beer portfolio seeing double-digit sales growth. Newlands chalked up some of this underperformance to the mainstream brands in its spirits and wine business. Additionally, Constellation's earnings report showed that and its higher-end wine and liquor brands — like Meiomi and Kim Crawford wine brands — outperformed the rest of the group. "Today it's one-third, and even though that area continues to drag on the overall business, the top end of our wine business is doing quite well and taking share."

Experts predict oil prices will continue to rise heading into the fourth quarter, driven by tighter supply and production cuts. Despite some profit-taking in the last week of September, crude oil prices have rallied since the summer. That means U.S. crude oil reserves will remain under pressure amid the Saudi production cuts. And questions still remain as to the strength of a resurgence from the Chinese economy and how that will support higher oil prices. Goldman also recently published its list of buy-rated stocks to play higher oil prices, which included Chevron and Baker Hughes .
