Divers scouring the wreckage of the superyacht that sank off the Sicilian coast have found the body of the last person missing from the luxury boat, believed to be the daughter of a British tech magnate. The body of Mike Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah was discovered early Friday, the Italian Coast Guard said, according to the Associated Press news agency — the culmination of a challenging five-day rescue operation. One other body, of the ship’s cook Recaldo Thomas, was recovered shortly after the accident. The local prosecutor's office has launched an investigation, though no cause or possible suspects had been publicly identified. Italian prosecutors investigating the case have scheduled a news conference on Saturday.

After retrieving six bodies from the wreck over the past four days, Lynch’s is the final body being searched for by Italian authorities. The body of her father, Mike Lynch, was retrieved and identified on Thursday, an Italian interior ministry official told Reuters. Fifteen people were rescued on Monday and one body was recovered – thought to be that on the onboard chef Recaldo Thomas. Five days on, Italian authorities are still working to understand how the 56-meter (184-foot) yacht sank so quickly. “In just 60 seconds, you can see the ship disappear,” he told Italian outlet ANSA.

The next day, three minutes before shots were fired toward Trump, local police radioed that a man was on a nearby roof. That warning never made it to the Secret Service, whose snipers didn’t know the would-be assassin was on the roof until shots rang out. “I can confirm that the Butler County ESU team made radios available to the Secret Service and that they were not utilized by the Secret Service,” Goldinger said in a statement. But the issue of how to directly communicate with local law enforcement remains unresolved. Evan Vucci/AP Secret Service agents rush the stage immediately after the shooting.

CNN —Multiple Secret Service personnel from the Pittsburgh Field Office and one member of Donald Trump’s security detail involved in the advance planning for Trump’s July 13 rally have been reassigned to administrative duties and ordered to work from home, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN. The Secret Service has been under immense pressure from lawmakers to discipline or fire those involved in the preparation for the rally. “This was a Secret Service failure,” Rowe told reporters during a news conference earlier this month – a clear shift in tone from when the agency previously pointed blame on locals for their failure to keep eyes on would-be Trump assassin Thomas Crooks that day. “That roof should have been covered.”“The U.S. Secret Service is committed to investigating the decisions and actions of personnel related to the event in Butler, Pennsylvania and the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. “The U.S. Secret Service holds our personnel to the highest professional standards, and any identified and substantiated violations of policy will be investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility for potential disciplinary action.

Judge James Robart told Business Insider a bank that managed his wife's individual retirement account purchased Boeing stock in April 2023. He said as soon as he learned about it, he had the stocks sold; his financial disclosures said the shares were sold on two dates in May and June. Based on the prices that Boeing shares traded at on the days her IRA bought and sold the shares, at least one of the two sales was a money-loser, while the second could have been profitable. He and his family disposed of their Boeing shares more than a year before that decision. The amount of Boeing stock traded isn't much compared with Robart's total wealth.

"Groundbreaking TV talk show journalist Phil Donahue died Sunday night at home surrounded by his wife of 44 years Marlo Thomas, his sister, his children, grandchildren and his beloved golden retriever Charlie," said a statement from his family. At his peak, his nationally syndicated "The Phil Donahue Show" — later renamed to "Donahue" — was a ratings hit and precursor to similar shows by hosts Montel Williams and Jerry Springer. "His show debuted nationally, and the whole country came to know his personal brand of issue-driven straight talk," Winfrey said in 2002. "If there had been no Phil Donahue show, there would be no 'Oprah Winfrey' show. "Phil Donahue essentially started this company and began an entire industry in daytime syndication," Bob Turner, then president of Multimedia Entertainment, said in a statement to the Times in 1996 when Donahue announced his retirement.

Private jet flights fell 15% in the first half of the year compared with their peak in 2022, as the industry grapples with waning demand and a new competitive landscape for high-end travel. Despite a short boost from the Summer Olympics, with a record 713 private jet flights to Paris the last week of July, the private jet industry continues to lose altitude this travel season. Jet It, a large U.S. private jet operator, shut down last year after grounding its fleet of Phenom 300s, Gulfstream G150s and HondaJets. Private jet passengers who paid six figures for flights started facing delays and cancellations as operators couldn’t buy or lease planes fast enough. “Prices are about 20% higher than they were in 2019,” Private Jet Card Comparisons' Gollan said.

U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles was stripped of her floor exercise bronze medal Sunday by the International Olympic Committee after a scoring inquiry was deemed invalid. Chiles is the only gymnast in history to be stripped of an Olympic medal for reasons other than age falsification or failed drug tests. The Murdoch family feud taking place in an obscure Nevada court highlights the state’s surging popularity as a global center of family trusts and a friendly home to the world’s biggest fortunes. MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government said Tuesday that it had filed a diplomatic protest against Beijing after Chinese jets flew dangerously close and fired a volley of flares in the path of a Philippine air force patrol plane over a disputed shoal in the South China Sea. The Southern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army said Saturday that a Philippine air force aircraft “illegally” entered the airspace above the shoal, which China claims, disrupting its combat training activities. The command sent jets and ships to identify, track and drive away the Philippine aircraft, it added. In 2013, China announced a new Air Defense Identification Zone over the East China Sea that covers a chain of disputed islands also claimed by Japan. Washington has repeatedly warned that it is obligated to defend the Philippines, its oldest treaty ally in Asia, if Filipino forces, ships and aircraft come under an armed attack, including in the South China Sea.

We tend to wind ourselves up about differences among boomers, millennials, and Gen Zers — sorry, Gen X, forgot to include you — even though many of the distinctions are made up. AdvertisementIt's easy to point to young workers and say they're no good at their jobs because, of course, they're often not as experienced as those doing the criticizing. "Mentorship will be huge with this generation," Toothacre said. So, some young workers' desire to focus more on their mental health and well-being could rankle some older workers and fuel why-didn't-I-think-of-that resentments. The Murdoch family feud taking place in an obscure Nevada court highlights the state's surging popularity as a global center of family trusts and a friendly home to the world's biggest fortunes. The Western state's fast-growing industry of trust and estate attorneys, trust companies and facilitators keeps a deliberately low profile. Yet experts estimate the state likely has hundreds of billions of dollars in trust assets locked away in nondescript office buildings or trust companies, offering little to no visibility to the outside world. In the race among states to attract the hundreds of billions of dollar in new trust assets, Nevada has a comfortable lead. Perhaps its most powerful advantage, and the one with direct bearing on the Murdoch case, is trust flexibility.

A convicted serial killer on California death row for murdering a dozen people in the 1980s and ’90s confessed to the 1986 murder of a 19-year-old woman in Los Angeles County, the police announced on Tuesday. William Lester Suff, 70, confessed in May 2022 to stabbing Cathy Small to death and dumping her body on a South Pasadena, Calif., cul-de-sac, where her body was discovered by police on Feb. 22, 1986, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced at a news conference on Tuesday. Why the announcement came more than two years after the confession was not clear. Ms. Small’s body was found in the morning wearing a nightgown, and she died from multiple stab wounds and strangulation, Lt. Patricia Thomas said. Ms. Small’s body was identified three days later by a man who had read about the killing in the news and had called detectives to say he was concerned that the victim could be his roommate.
