The law – proposed and approved by Portugal’s ruling PS party – seeks to address the housing crisis in Portugal. The new law’s resolutions could potentially have far-reaching effects on those running alojamento local (AL) properties – including Portugal’s world-renowned hostels. AL properties outside of low-density areas will also see their current property taxes increase, and be subject to a new tax starting at 15%, known as CEAL. The new legislation threatens the future of all hostels in Portugal, says Miguel Santos, board member at the Associação Hostels de Portugal (AHdP) and owner of a Lisbon hostel. A ‘Perfect Marriage’ Between Team and Player

The harmonic convergence between the resurrected Jason Heyward and the rampaging Los Angeles Dodgers crystallized beautifully one evening in Baltimore last month. It was in the top of the second inning at Camden Yards when Heyward smashed a three-run home run off the right-hander Tyler Wells, opening the gates to a five-run inning. And the Dodgers, being the Dodgers, adjusted accordingly. “I told him the situation, that my bet was that they were going to use a lefty the rest of the way,” said Manager Dave Roberts. “I told him, ‘You did your job to help us win this game.’ And he was like, ‘Doc, I’m in.’”

July's CPI report was "better than we were expecting," said Eugenio Aleman, chief economist at Raymond James. Nearly all of the monthly inflation increase came from shelter costs, which increased by 0.4% and were up 7.7% compared with one year ago. Despite rising oil costs, energy prices increased just 0.1% in July and food increased 0.2%, according to the bureau. However, there was relief for used vehicle prices, which dropped by 1.3%, and medical care services, which were down 0.4%. Shareholders already had good reason to take that with a pinch of salt. The Japanese conglomerate’s 478 billion yen ($3.3 billion) net loss, which missed analysts’ estimates, included an increase in the carrying value of chip designer Arm, even though revenue dipped. Vasquez-USA TODAY SportsAugust 8 - The San Francisco Giants scored six runs in the ninth inning to rally for an 8-3 victory over Los Angeles Monday night in Anaheim, Calif., sending the reeling Angels to their seventh loss in a row. The Angels led 3-2 going into the ninth, thanks in part to a home run-robbing catch by center fielder Mickey Moniak in the eighth inning. Luis Rengifo followed with a single off Giants reliever Tyler Rogers (6-4), scoring Grichuk for a 3-2 Los Angeles lead. The starting pitchers -- the Angels' Patrick Sandoval and the Giants' Logan Webb -- matched each other with three scoreless innings to start the game before the Giants broke through in the fourth.

The Red Sox won the first seven meetings with the Blue Jays this season and now have lost two straight to a team they are chasing for an American League wild-card spot.
