CNN —Golf’s power structure took a sharp shift to the players Tuesday when Tiger Woods was named as the sixth player director on the powerful PGA Tour policy board. The move gives the players a one-seat advantage on the board after the controversial merger in June between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf. Five of the policy board members are independent directors, with professional backgrounds in law and business. “I am honored to represent the players of the PGA TOUR. Many elite PGA golfers accepted highly lucrative offers from LIV Golf, including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia and Bubba Watson.

“Pee-wee’s Playhouse” stands as one of the oddest, most audacious, most unclassifiable shows in television history. In one episode, Pee-wee married a fruit salad. The show arrived in the midst of Ronald Reagan’s presidential administration and harked back to another button-down era, the one Mr. Reubens lived as a child: the 1950s. ‘‘I saw it as very Norman Rockwell,” he told The New York Times in 2016, ‘‘but it was my Norman Rockwell version of the ’50s, which was more all-inclusive.”Laurence Fishburne, S. Epatha Merkerson and other actors of color were in the cast. “Not just anybody — the king!” Mr. Reubens said.

Opinion: The Donald Trump and Hunter Biden surprises

So it was remarkable Wednesday when the deal for Hunter Biden to plead guilty to two misdemeanors for his failure to pay taxes on time fell apart in a federal courtroom after the judge raised questions about it. Special counsel Jack Smith unexpectedly added a major allegation to the indictment charging former President Donald Trump with mishandling classified documents. The Trump and Hunter Biden developments underlined how America’s political climate is being shaped by what happens in the courts. This addition, an alleged surveillance tape conspiracy, almost reads like a spy novel.”“It features Trump employee and co-defendant Walt Nauta’s surprise clandestine trip to Florida. To W. James Antle III, it was the Hunter Biden plea deal snafu that brought to the forefront the “powerful split screen that drives” how Republican voters see the emerging 2024 presidential race.

But she also made and began showing abstract paintings, encouraged by Norman Lewis and Romare Bearden. Her turn to sculpture began in New York. The artists Ana Mendieta, who helped organize the show, and Howardena Pindell, whom it also featured, were among her friends. By then, however, she had resettled in small-town Georgia — first Macon, then Athens — beginning a fade from view in the New York scene that was later compounded by ill health. Three months ago, a Reuters poll predicted prices would average $1,950 in 2023. Standard Chartered analyst Suki Cooper said gold is "more likely to test the downside until rate cuts materialise unless a new catalyst emerges". For silver , the poll forecast average prices of $23.52 an ounce in 2023 and $25.00 in 2024. "Anaemic performance from gold and concerns over economic outlook especially in China" have weighed on silver, O'Connell added. But silver could still find support from solar panels demand, analysts said.

It looks the same all over, but because of what Ashbrook described as “botanical issues of great detail,” only one side qualified as access land, open for rambling. To Hayes, it seemed as if all these technicalities undercut the rights that the CROW Act was supposed to enshrine. In Sweden, the tourism board developed an ad campaign around the allure of what the country calls allemansrätten, or everyman’s right. “It’s a right protected by the law that allows me to sleep and eat and walk pretty much wherever I want,” the voice-over explains. “Part of that bundle of rights in England for the last several hundred years has been the right to exclude other people from your land,” Shrubsole says.

Hardline conservatives from the House Freedom Caucus have proposed amendments that would address other hot-button topics including immigration, critical race theory and diversity. The White House has said that Biden would veto both of this week's House appropriations bills if they reached his desk. "If we don't agree with the outcome, we'll vote against the rule and do whatever we have to do," Representative Ralph Norman, a prominent Freedom Caucus member, said in an interview. While House Republicans argue over spending cuts, the Democratic-led Senate is moving quickly and in a strong bipartisan manner toward legislation with at least $120 billion more spending. Last year, spending bills were all crammed in to a sweeping omnibus measure totalling $1.7 trillion.

The bills are the first of 12 appropriations measures that lawmakers have been crafting to cover every aspect of government funding. Congress has not enacted 12 appropriations bills on time since fiscal 1997. Last year, spending bills were all crammed in to a sweeping omnibus measure totalling $1.7 trillion. The White House has said that Biden would veto both of this week's House appropriations bills if they reached his desk. This week, he delivered his most explicit threat yet to Biden, saying their investigations into the Biden family’s business deals appear to be rising to the level of an impeachment inquiry. The only way Congress can do that is go to an impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy said Tuesday, stopping short of formally moving to open such a probe. Nebraska GOP Rep. Don Bacon, whose district Biden carried in 2020, told CNN that the House needs to be deliberate. It’s not good for the country.”In the first Trump impeachment, House Democrats led a number of closed and open hearings before charging Trump with abuse of power and obstructing Congress. July 24 (Reuters) - FedEx pilots have rejected a tentative contract deal with the parcel delivery firm and the two sides will reopen negotiations, likely under the supervision of the National Mediation Board, the company and the pilots' union said on Monday. The Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) did not detail the reasons why members voted 57% to 43% to reject the deal. "Our members have spoken and we will now regroup," Captain Chris Norman, FedEx ALPA chair, said in a statement. The tentative FedEx deal included a 30% pay increase and a 30% increase to the pilots' legacy pensions. Hong Kong CNN —A growing typhoon is sweeping across the Pacific Ocean toward the Philippines, with forecasters warning it could strengthen into a supertyphoon and press on towards Taiwan, Hong Kong or mainland China later this week. Typhoon Doksuri began as a tropical storm in the Western Pacific on Sunday morning, according to the United States’ Joint Typhoon Warning Center. That could increase to about 18 inches of rainfall by Wednesday as the typhoon intensifies and heads toward the northern part of the South China Sea – spelling potential trouble for Taiwan, Hong Kong, and parts of southern China. The Hong Kong Observatory has asked the public to monitor weather announcements, warning the typhoon will bring high heat and thunderstorms ahead of its arrival. DON’T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT, by Diana AthillTwenty-three years ago, Diana Athill wrote “Stet,” a memoir of her life as an editor in which she outlined the pleasures of her profession. And she did a good bit of gift-wrapping herself: In her long life Athill published no fewer than 10 memoirs, two collections of short stories and, in 1967, “Don’t Look at Me Like That,” her only novel. By the time of its writing, she already had her first autobiography, “Instead of a Letter,” under her belt. Although the novel is set primarily in the 1950s — its protagonist, Meg Bailey, is some years younger than her creator — Athill and her heroine share a similar social status (both had titled grandfathers) and an artistic London milieu. “They buttoned over the chest, had an obscene vent between the legs and were very warm.”

Gold bars and gold coins in different sizes are lying in a safe on a table at the precious metal dealer Pro Aurum. Gold prices advanced to their highest in about two months on Thursday, driven by U.S. dollar's weakness and growing expectations that the Federal Reserve would conclude its aggressive rate-hiking cycle at its meeting next week. "The recent reversal in gold prices is very much driven by the expectation that the Fed is almost done in terms of interest rate hikes," said Julius Baer analyst Carsten Menke. "That said, we believe interest rates are set to stay high and a rapid reversal of monetary policy is not imminent due to the resilience of the U.S. economy. Furthermore, we believe that interest rate levels are too high to lure gold investors back into the market."
