While the music industry struggled, coming back in fits and starts as the pandemic receded, the genre-straddling musical artist Brandi Carlile ‘s year was epic beyond all measure. Her memoir, “Broken Horses,” released last year, became a worldwide bestseller. And her album “In These Silent Days” racked up seven Grammy nominations in October, and led to a massive tour that stretched throughout this year. That tour, most notably, included a stop at the Newport Folk Festival, where Ms. Carlile, 42, brought her hero, Joni Mitchell , on stage for Ms. Mitchell’s first live appearance in 20 years. And, capping off her exceptional year, in November Ms. Carlile joined another of her longtime heroes, Elton John , at Dodger Stadium, for what was billed as his final U.S. concert performance.
Erin Ventura had no intention of leaving Los Angeles — until she met her Canadian husband, Justin Chiang. Erin Ventura grew up in Los Angeles, and she describes herself as "a California girl" through and through. But since Chiang was a Canadian citizen and Ventura was American, they had to choose which country to live in. Ventura said her husband was making a bit over 60,000 Canadian dollars a year playing in the military band. But I think in this case it's more of a 'big city, small city' kind of thing.
Social media has been flooded with Lensa AI portraits, from photorealistic paintings to more abstract illustrations. The kingdom’s Soundstorm music festival, which began in 2019, is back again for its fourth year and will start on Thursday. “(It) is a particularly powerful example because it seeks to bring together young people and women from across Saudi Arabia and the world,” she said. By contrast, Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival, considered North America’s biggest dance music festival, had an attendance of over 400,000 this year. Last year, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said that performers should either “speak up” about Saudi Arabia’s human rights violations or not attend the festival at all. Some however argue that opening up countries to international norms and values can allow for better discussion on human rights shortcomings.
