CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris declined to preside over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress on Wednesday, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. Harris’ aide cited a previously scheduled event as the reason for missing the speech Wednesday. A date for the Netanyahu-Harris meeting has not been announced, but it will be separate from President Joe Biden’s planned meeting with the Israeli prime minister. The closely watched bilateral will mark Harris’ first meeting with a world leader since Biden stepped aside from his reelection campaign and endorsed Harris’ candidacy. Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray, a Washington state Democrat, also declined to preside, according to a spokesperson.

Kevin Mohatt | ReutersVice President Kamala Harris on Sunday received President Joe Biden's endorsement to replace him at the top of the Democratic ticket in the race against Donald Trump. "I am honored to have the President's endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination," Harris said in a Sunday statement. Biden's endorsement puts Harris on a glidepath to the Democratic nomination. Secure nominationThough Harris has a significant leg-up with Biden's endorsement, she is not the Democratic nominee until the necessary number of delegates say so. The voting process will repeat itself until a candidate wins a majority and can be officially designated the Democratic nominee.

Ayana Dunlap changed careers and increased her earning potential over the course of a summer — and she did it without a bachelor's degree, or spending a dime. Suddenly, the hospitality career Dunlap had dreamed of having since she was a teenager seemed "impossible" to return to. Dunlap says she was worried her job opportunities would be limited without a bachelor's degree. She has an associate's degree in business administration and had exclusively worked in hospitality up to that point. The most important skill that helped Dunlap land a six-figure tech job without a bachelor's degree, she says, is cybersecurity.

Instead, Biden’s campaign unraveled over the course of the next 24 days. It’s a high-risk, high-reward gamble for Democrats, resetting a campaign Biden was losing with a new nominee just 107 days before the election. Dunn and her husband, Bob Bauer, were among Biden’s debate prep team and had faced the ire of the president’s family in the aftermath of the debate. Several news outlets, including CNN, reported that Pelosi and former President Barack Obama had privately expressed concerns about the future of Biden’s campaign. That same day, ABC News reported that Schumer told Biden in their Saturday meeting that it would be best if he bowed out of the presidential race.

The historic endorsement came after Biden announced Sunday that he is dropping out of the race following weeks of disarray within the Democratic Party. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. Despite the president’s backing, it remains unclear whether Harris will become the nominee, or what process the Democratic Party would take to select an alternative. Dmitri Mehlhorn, a Democratic political strategist advising several big-money backers, released a statement Sunday following Biden’s withdrawal supporting Harris. After she dropped out, Harris became a prominent surrogate for Biden before being named his vice presidential pick in August 2020.

Eva Hesse, the German American artist, wanted her work to look “ucky,” and accordingly, many of her sculptures can make your skin crawl. They behave like skin themselves: irregular in texture, their craggy folds suggesting, unnervingly, something alive. Hesse, a post-Minimalist of the 1960s (she died in 1970), dismantled the ideological scaffolding holding up what was considered art, often by reimagining industrial, non-art materials. They spread across the floor and crept up walls, unruly and impolite, like little else art had seen before. They’re given ample breathing room across the gallery’s ground floor, cool and low-lit, which gives a revenant, sepulchral flavor.

US President Joe Biden steps off Air Force One as he arrives at Hagerstown Regional Airport in Hagerstown, Maryland, June 20, 2024, on his way to Camp David. Those delegates are set to vote for their presidential nominee in a virtual roll call in early August, before the Democratic National Convention. If Biden ends his campaign before voting begins, the pledged delegates could cast their ballots for a new candidate. According to the DNC rules, If no candidate won a majority on that first ballot, then the more than 700 "superdelegates" could join in subsequent votes. The voting would then continue until one candidate won a simple majority of delegates.

Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland, a key member of the House committee that investigated the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, sent President Biden a four-page letter this month that compared the 81-year-old commander in chief to a tiring baseball pitcher and urged him to consult with fellow Democrats about whether to continue his campaign. Mr. Raskin opened his letter, which was dated July 6 and was obtained by The New York Times, by writing that he shared Mr. Biden’s “mad love for American democracy and freedom.”The letter, the authenticity of which Mr. Raskin confirmed on Thursday, begins with nearly three pages of lavish praise for Mr. Biden. Mr. Raskin writes that he wishes to “remind you of your true greatness as a leader” and spends several paragraphs recounting Mr. Biden’s legislative achievements and defense of democracy. But the crux of the letter is a four-paragraph metaphor comparing the president to the Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martínez, a Hall of Famer who was left on the mound for the eighth inning of Game Seven of the 2003 American League Championship Series despite being tired. Mr. Martínez allowed three runs, tying the game before the Yankees won with a walk-off home run in the 11th inning that denied the Red Sox a trip to the World Series, which they had not won in 85 years.

He could have made himself not a future president but a future monarch, in effect,” Raskin wrote. Raskin continued, quoting Biden, “’In America,’ you say, ‘genuine leaders — democratic leaders, with a small ‘d’? Everything else pales in comparison to this struggle, even your magnificent policy achievements.”He framed Biden’s choice about the future of his reelection campaign as a political one. They are also political questions because both political leaders and tens of millions of voting citizens have formed judgments based on the events of the last few weeks. Raskin added, ”Your situation is tricky because you are both our star pitcher and our Manager.

With the S & P 500 surging more than 18% in 2024, it might be time for investors to make a few defensive moves in their portfolios. But that surge is spurring some financial advisors to reassess their clients' exposure to large-cap tech and turn toward currently unloved asset categories that could be poised to rise. "It might take a little longer to manifest but we think [health care] is an interesting combination of offense and defense, and it provides meaningful cash flows for investors," Saccocia said. Checking in on risk and cash Investors reviewing their 2024 gains should also reassess their risk profile and consider whether their asset allocation reflects their long-term goals. BALTIMORE AP —When Trea Ellinger left a Baltimore drug rehab facility last summer, he assured his anxious mother that everything was fine. His mother, Lori Ellinger, questions the autopsy’s findings and wants to know why paramedics decided to use an injectable sedative. “As long as he’s not lying face down, that would be great,” one of the medics says. Four minutes later, the medics discussed getting Ellinger repositioned, but they didn’t act immediately. Ancient relative of the great white sharkMost species of Ptychodus lived between 100 and 80 million years ago during the late Cretaceous period. Because shark skeletons are made of cartilage, they do not fossilize well, typically leaving archaeologists only teeth and few skeletal remains to find. Lamniformes also includes the modern species of megamouth, sand, goblin and basking sharks, among others. “The crushing teeth together with the gigantic size make Ptychodus a very unique shark,” Amadori said. … Modern durophagous sharks (that consume hard-shelled organisms) are demersal, feeding on or near the bottom.

CNN —The dramatic dismissal of the involuntary manslaughter case against actor Alec Baldwin over withheld evidence could mean the release of convicted “Rust” movie armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed from a New Mexico state prison, legal experts say. But the Baldwin case imploded on Friday – just two days after the trial began – with the sudden and shocking twists and turns of a nail-biting legal thriller. “I fully expect Hannah Gutierrez Reed to make the same argument for her conviction to be overturned,” Neama Rahmani, a former federal prosecutor, told CNN.
