That threshold describes a long-term average rather than a single-year anomaly. But because it describes a multidecade average, the measure will always be backward-looking, with the precise moment the world crossed the 1.5 mark clear only in retrospect. This year a handful of prominent scientists have suggested that when we do look back to mark that time, we may well circle 2023. Not that long ago, it would have been pretty contentious to suggest that the world’s most ambitious climate goal was already lost. Perhaps 2024 is the year we may finally be ready to retire it publicly, too.

(AP) — Montana's Supreme Court has rejected an attempt by the state's Republican governor to block a landmark climate ruling that said regulators must consider the effects of greenhouse gas emissions when issuing permits for fossil fuel development. Greg Gianforte and three state agencies to block the August ruling from District Court Judge Kathy Seeley while an appeal by the state is pending before the high court. The state high court ruling means Montana officials must “immediately comply” with Seeley's order pending the appeal, said Mark Bellinger, an attorney for Our Children's Trust, which represented the 16 young plaintiffs who brought the case. The Department of Environmental Quality has created a work group to discuss potential changes to how it uses the Montana Environmental Policy Act, which requires public input in fossil fuel and mining development. Last year's amendment by lawmakers forbid greenhouse gas emission analyses unless the federal government decided to regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant.

Sometimes, striving for perfection can stunt your success — or, at least, keep you from landing a six-figure deal on ABC's "Shark Tank." Kelly, 36, is the founder of Anchorage, Alaska-based Heather's Choice, which sells lightweight, packable meals — just add hot water — and ready-to-eat snacks for outdoor adventurers. An adventurer herself, Kelly started the company in 2014, and raised $1.3 million in fundraising by the time of the episode's taping, she said. Heather's Choice had its first million-dollar revenue year in 2022, indicating an upward trajectory, Kelly noted. Instead of building upon the smaller and cheaper packaroon, the investors advised Kelly to market her meals to a wider audience, like students and working professionals.

Lower courts used the decision to uphold a 2020 National Marine Fisheries Service rule that herring fishermen pay for monitors who track their fish intake. A group of commercial fishermen appealed the decision to the Supreme Court. They lost in the lower courts, which relied on the Chevron decision to sustain the regulation. The Supreme Court itself hasn't invoked the Chevron decision since Trump's justices began arriving on the court in 2017, the first year of the Republican's administration. ___Follow the AP's coverage of the U.S. Supreme Court at https://apnews.com/hub/us-supreme-court.

Mark Cuban says smart businesses embrace diversity, equity and inclusion. That's a stance at odds with some recent high-profile skepticism of the organizational framework from fellow billionaires Elon Musk and Bill Ackman. "Let me help you out and give my thoughts on DEI," Cuban told Musk on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday. "Good businesses look where others don't to find the employees that will put your business in the best possible position to succeed." Cuban pushed back against the notion that that's what DEI policies call for.

Pharmacies are changing how they get paid, and Walgreens wants a piece of the action. It's a departure from the traditional, complicated way drugs are paid for, and proponents say it could make drug pricing more transparent and predictable. It's not a given patients will pay less for drugs at the pharmacy counter under this kind of model. These companies are taking cues from Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs, which is starting to gain traction in the market. The big question is whether Walgreens can compete with CVS and other pharmacies in delivering those extra pharmacy and healthcare services.

Mark Cuban is no fan of jargon — and the billionaire is far from alone. But using jargon words when you could opt for something simple and clear instead, typically has the opposite effect, according to Cuban. "Always use the simpler word," Cuban told Wired in an October video Q&A. "There's no reason to ever use the word 'cohort' when you could use the word 'group,'" he said. You sound stupid when you use the word 'cohort,' because you're trying to sound smart."

CVS will change the way it prices drugs

New York CNN —CVS is revamping the way it reimburses its pharmacies for prescription medications, a move that could make prescription drug pricing simpler and change how much consumers pay for their medicines. It’s a similar model to the one entrepreneur Mark Cuban is pushing with his Cost Plus Drugs company. This shift in payment models could change the cost of prescription drugs for some patients, although it will not necessarily make all medicine cost less. Some drugs may cost less, while others might rise in price, CVS executives said. Americans spend around $1,200 a year on average for prescription drugs — more than any other country — according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

While over the years the pipeline's start date has been moved further back, supply has kept coming. Light synthetic crude from the oil sands, another key Canadian grade, is trading close to its deepest discount since 2020. With Canada exporting around 3.8 million bpd via pipelines, each additional dollar the discount widens amounts to millions in lost revenues for oil companies, analysts say. Conventional oil and gas producers will drill 8% more wells in 2024 to take advantage of greater access to pipelines including Trans Mountain. Rail exports hit 145,000 bpd in September, nearly doubling from May, according to latest data from the Canada Energy Regulator.

CVS Health on Tuesday said it will revamp how it prices prescription drugs and scrap a complex model that typically sets how much pharmacies get reimbursed and what patients pay for those medications. CVS' new model could change the cost of prescription drugs for some patients, but it will not necessarily make all medicine cost less, company executives said. Lynch told CNBC: "It's a cost plus markup, plus a fee. Billionaire Mark Cuban last year launched an online pharmacy that takes a similar approach to CVS' new reimbursement model. The company, called Cost Plus Drugs, aims to drive down the price of medicines broadly by selling them at a set 15% markup over their cost, plus pharmacy fees.
