Antelopes, hundreds of thousands of them, are crossing the savannas of South Sudan. But a report published today estimates that South Sudan is home to the largest known migration of land mammals on Earth. South Sudan, a country in central Africa, has a varied landscape, from rainforests to lush savannas and swamplands fed by the Nile River (pictured). Marcus Westberg He suspects that the migration’s survival and growth is likely to be linked to the decades of war South Sudan has suffered. Oracle warns that a TikTok ban would hurt business

A U.S. ban of TikTok might hurt Oracle 's business, the software company acknowledged in its annual report on Monday. TikTok said Oracle would also be responsible for compiling the app and delivering it to third-party app stores. "The one thing I can tell you is we have an excellent relationship with the folks at TikTok," Oracle CEO Safra Catz said on a 2022 conference call with analysts. Following the bipartisan legislation this year targeted at TikTok, and Biden's signing of the bill mandating its sale, TikTok filed a lawsuit arguing that the law violates First Amendment free speech protections. Oracle's cloud infrastructure revenue for the fiscal year came to $6.9 billion.

In March, the first lady, Jill Biden, announced a new White House women’s health initiative that highlighted a seemingly obscure research question: What if you could delay menopause and all the health risks associated with it? The question comes from a field of research that has started to draw attention over the last few years, as scientists who study longevity and women’s health have come to realize that the female reproductive system is far more than just a baby-maker. The ovaries, in particular, appear to be connected to virtually every aspect of a woman’s health. Once that happens, a woman enters menopause, which accelerates her aging and the decline of other organ systems, like the heart and the brain. While women, on average, live longer than men, they spend more time living with diseases or disabilities.

Amazon's ditching the plastic air pillows in its boxes
  + stars: | 2024-06-20 | by ( Katie Bartlett | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
Amazon said Thursday it has removed 95% of the plastic air pillows from its packaging in North America and will replace them with paper fillers made from 100% recycled content. It marks Amazon's largest plastic-packaging reduction effort and will help it remove nearly 15 billion plastic pillows annually. The e-commerce company began transitioning away from plastic filler in October 2023 when it announced its first U.S. automated fulfillment center to eliminate plastic-delivery packaging. Amazon collaborated with suppliers to instead source paper fillers that are also curbside recyclable. This is not the first step that Amazon has taken to reduce its packaging waste.

Some 30% to 40% of people with depression do not experience symptom improvement after trying one treatment, according to the study. And about 30% of people diagnosed with depression go on to experience treatment-resistant depression when the disorder doesn’t improve after multiple treatment attempts. Mapping depression in the brainThe authors used data from 801 adult participants who were previously diagnosed with depression or anxiety, and 137 healthy control group participants. The grant supports a five-year project involving 4,500 participants, which is centered on the development of a better diagnosis and treatment tool for depression biotypes.
