The news came a day after a $60 billion deal between Exxon Mobil and independent oil producer Pioneer Natural Resources . Monthly production topped out at 13 million barrels per day in November 2019 and hit 9.9 million by February 2021. And offshore oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico recovered to 2 million barrels a day, but hasn't grown. Where oil companies have been spending their money U.S. oil companies cut capital spending to $106.6 billion last year from $199.7 billion in 2014, according to Statista, contributing to the decline in oil production and arguably delaying the recovery. By comparison, a group of people who also dieted and exercised, but then received dummy shots, lost weight initially but then regained some, researchers reported Sunday in the journal Nature Medicine. Side effects including nausea, diarrhea and constipation were reported more frequently in people taking the drug than those taking the placebo.

37 people joined a class action lawsuit against Apple over stalkers using AirTags to track them. The lawsuit, filed last year by two women, claimed Apple AirTags had been used by stalkers to track the location of their victims. "One of the most dangerous and frightening technologies employed by stalkers is the use of real-time location information to track victims," the lawsuit says. Others have also used AirTags to plot car thefts. The lawsuit claims that "individuals have been murdered — or murdered others — when using AirTags to track stolen property and confront thieves."

WASHINGTON (AP) — Four months after U.S. regulators tried to block imports of Elf Bar, the top-selling Chinese disposable e-cigarette remains widely available thanks to a simple but effective tactic: a name change. In May, it directed customs officials to seize incoming shipments of Elf Bar and EBDesign, two of the company's U.S. brand names. Elf Bar generated U.S. sales of over $271 million in the past year, according to retail data tracker Nielsen. Public records show how quickly Elf Bar was able to rebrand itself when the FDA announced its import ban in May. “FDA has confiscated more heads of romaine lettuce than it has illegal e-cigarettes in the last five years,” said Jenson.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — NASA’s Psyche spacecraft rocketed away Friday on a six-year journey to a rare metal-covered asteroid. SpaceX launched the spacecraft into an overcast midmorning sky from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center. Scientists envision spiky metal craters, huge metal cliffs and metal-encrusted eroded lava flows greenish-yellow from sulfur — “almost certain to be completely wrong,” according to Elkins-Tanton. Led by Arizona State University on NASA’s behalf, the $1.2 billion mission will use a roundabout route to get to the asteroid. So instead of arriving at the asteroid in 2026 as originally planned, the spacecraft won’t get there until 2029.

A leading doctors group on Thursday formally withdrew its approval of a 2009 paper on “excited delirium,” a document that critics say has been used to justify excessive force by police. The American College of Emergency Physicians in a statement called the paper outdated and said the term excited delirium should not be used by members who testify in civil or criminal cases. Earlier this week, California became the first state to bar the use of excited delirium and related terms as a cause of death in autopsies. Other medical groups, including the American Medical Association, had previously rejected excited delirium as a diagnosis. The emergency physicians group had distanced itself from the term previously, but it had stopped short of withdrawing its support for the 2009 paper.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — NASA on Wednesday showed off its first asteroid samples delivered last month by a spacecraft — the most ever returned to Earth. The ancient black dust and chunks are from the carbon-rich asteroid named Bennu, almost 60 million miles away. NASA's Osiris-Rex spacecraft collected the samples three years ago and then dropped them off sealed in a capsule during a flyby of Earth last month. NEW YORK (AP) — Some Walgreens pharmacy staff walked off the job this week over concerns that working conditions are putting employees and patients at risk. Organizers on Tuesday estimated that more than 300 Walgreens locations — out of nearly 9,000 nationwide — were affected by walkouts planned for Monday through Wednesday. A Walgreens pharmacy manager who helped organize the walkouts told The Associated Press that teams were short-staffed and overworked, especially with the additional demands from the COVID-19 pandemic.
