The Food and Drug Administration recently approved a heart stent made specifically for infants and young children, a device that could help kids born with certain congenital heart defects avoid a series of open heart operations over their childhoods. In some cases, those defects are treated with stents, which prop open blood vessels, ensuring that blood can properly flow through them. “You can imagine that is less than ideal — they’re too big.”This means that as the child grows older and their blood vessels get bigger, stents have to be replaced, often with open heart surgery, Zahn said. “It’s not unusual to have kids who are going into middle school who’ve had four or five or even six open heart surgeries,” he said. Patients are usually able to go home about a day later, compared with around seven days for open heart surgery, including some days in the ICU.

Fulton County prosecutors asked a Georgia appeals court this week to restore six charges against former President Donald Trump that were tossed in his indictment over attempts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state. In a court filing, prosecutors from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' office requested that the state's Court of Appeals reinstate six counts, including three against Trump, that she said Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee wrongly discarded earlier this year. "The trial court erred by quashing six counts of the indictment in this case, each of which alleged the crime of Solicitation of Violation of Oath by Public Officer," they wrote. The three solicitation counts against Trump included accusations that he solicited Georgia House Speaker David Ralston and twice solicited Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Four of the original 19 co-defendants in the case have pleaded guilty, while Trump, Meadows, Giuliani and the others have pleaded not guilty.

Elon Musk has given nearly $75 million to America PAC, the super PAC he created to support former President Donald Trump, according to a campaign finance filing from the group late Tuesday. The super PAC is focused on voter turnout efforts in potential swing states such as Pennsylvania, where Musk recently appeared onstage with Trump. Musk gave $14.95 million to the super PAC in July, $30 million in August and $30 million in September, according to the filing. The filing says he was the super PAC’s only donor during that period, although in June the super PAC disclosed several donations from associates of Musk, including five donations for $1 million apiece.
