As the fourth quarter gets underway, there are some stocks that may be poised to outperform over the next several months, according to Citi. "Now, broadening is apparent, with Value leading while Growth has not yet achieved July levels," Scott Chronert said in a Friday note to clients. Citi views newly added Ally Financial as "one of the best-positioned liability sensitive names," seeing the potential for total book value growth of 25% by the fourth quarter of next year. "While mistakes were clearly made with the '22 auto vintage, the short duration of this asset class implies ALLY will not be stuck with the problem beyond 2025," analyst Keith Horowitz wrote. Meanwhile, Citi has a buy rating on the stock, and its price target of $50 implies nearly 45% upside from Wednesday's close.

Reuters —Britain said on Thursday it would give up sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius in a deal that would allow people displaced decades ago to return home while London retains use of the UK-US military base on Diego Garcia. Britain said that the operation of Diego Garcia, a strategic military base jointly operated with the United States, was protected by the agreement, which also allows Mauritius to resettle the rest of the islands after its population was displaced. “This government inherited a situation where the long-term, secure operation of the Diego Garcia military base was under threat, with contested sovereignty and ongoing legal challenges,” British Foreign Minister David Lammy said in a statement. “Today’s agreement secures this vital military base for the future. New York CNN —Costco is expanding the collection of precious metals it sells, with the addition of platinum. platinum bars for $1,089.99 on its website, but a Costco membership is required for purchase. Costco is trying to replicate its recent success with gold bars, with platinum joining the extensive list of precious metals that collectors are snapping up at the retailer. In 2023, it began selling gold bars and sold more than $100 million worth of the bars during the first quarter of that year, the company said in its earnings report. After all, not many people are actually stashing away gold bars in their homes.
