The Fired College Football Coach Getting Paid $75 Million

You may fire me for $75 million. You may even fire me for $74 million. For $74 million, I can lease a new car with heated seats and buy a one-bedroom apartment in most major American cities. I can upgrade to premium economy and take my cat on a two-week surfing vacation. I can finally join a golf club, and pay a swing coach to sit in a cart and laugh at me.
In a scene in Jocelyn Bioh’s “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding,” a man rolls in a cart of items to sell to the clients and stylists at the titular salon. I wasn’t the only one: A small contingency of the audience at the Samuel J. Friedman Theater started snickering and laughing before he had even fully stepped onstage. “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding” draws its comedy from this world — a world familiar to many Black women audience members like me. Bioh’s salon isn’t an abstraction or callback; it’s a Black business set in modern-day Harlem. Bioh’s writing captures the quirks of a Black hair salon, and the characters who populate it: the unfortunate early-bird client who’s first to arrive when the shop’s late to open, the internal salon politics of stylists competing for clients, the inappropriate gossip, the sense of community.

“Nowhere is safe in Gaza. My son was injured and there was not a single hospital I could take him to so he could get stitches," said displaced Palestinian Ahmed al-Kahlout. He had been forced to leave his home to search for basic necessities for his family while "there are bodies filling Gaza's streets". The whole world has let us down, the progressive world that boasts about human rights has let us down." Outside Gaza's largest hospital, Al Shifa, entertainer Alaa Miqdad gathered displaced children and put on a clown show.

On TikTok, about a third of the content we watched were ads — but it didn't always feel that way. Other users have complained on the site that they are receiving ads "all over their FYP" or ads "every 6 videos." We focused solely on TikTok videos and slideshows and excluded TikTok stories and TikTok livestreams — even streams that were explicitly there to sell products, like QVC. The key difference is that you scroll past a TikTok ad. Kristen Schiele, a USC Marshall School of Business professor, told Insider we could see an increased ad volume since advertisers push more ad content around the holiday season.

Nov 8 (Reuters) - Instacart (CART.O) on Wednesday forecast fourth-quarter core profit above Wall Street estimates in its first earnings report since going public in September, on higher transaction and advertisement fees, sending its shares up 4% after the bell. The grocery delivery firm, whose stock has lost more than a third of its value since debut, also announced a $500 million share repurchase program. It expects current-quarter adjusted EBITDA, a key measure of profitability, to be between $165 million and $175 million. Instacart's gross transaction value (GTV) - the value of products sold based on prices shown - rose 6% over the year earlier to $7.49 billion in the third quarter. For full year 2023, Instacart anticipates GTV to grow in mid-single digits, versus analysts' estimate of 4.7% growth at $30.18 billion.

Gaza and Jerusalem CNN —Thousands of Palestinians fled northern Gaza on Wednesday, traveling miles on foot through the battered enclave in a growing exodus prompted by Israel’s intensified ground and air campaign. It was the fifth day in a row that the IDF opened an evacuation window, and numbers of people fleeing south have increased each day. Israel has been ramping up its offensive inside Gaza, following the October 7 attacks that left 1,400 people in Israel dead. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant claimed Tuesday that IDF troops were at the “heart of Gaza City” and targeting Hamas infrastructure and commanders there. Remarketing to customers who have previously engaged with your brand can lead to new purchases. Insider talked with the Glassers and Karasin to learn about remarketing strategies for small businesses on a budget. The Glassers agreed that showing new aspects of their brand to customers is an effective strategy when remarketing. "If you're wanting to start running remarketing ads, have a few different types of content and a few different kinds of audiences and see what's working and what's not," she said. To monitor ad performance effectively, Karasin suggested that nontechnical business owners get support in setting up their pixels and attribution tracking.

Nov 6 (Reuters) - Wall Street brokerages largely initiated Birkenstock (BIRK.N) with their top ratings, pointing to a likely boost from the German luxury sandal maker's recent investments to increase capacity, expansion into newer styles and brand loyalty. Birkenstock's shares dropped to as low as $35.83 in the days after listing on Oct. 11 and has traded below the IPO price of $46 apiece. Citigroup was among the most bullish, with a price target of $52, a more than 26% jump from the last close. Telsey Advisory Group analysts said Birkenstock has further avenue to expand into footwear categories such as orthopedics and professional, outdoor and active, kids, home, and sneakers. Morgan Stanley assigned a price target of $41 and an "equal-weight" rating, saying most catalysts were already priced in.

Birkenstock made its New York Stock Exchange debut last month at $41, below its initial public offering price. The company priced its IPO at $46 per share, in the middle of its indicated price range. Goldman Sachs sees an opportunity for market share gains, supported by the easing of supply constraints, as well as Birkenstock's pricing ability. Morgan Stanley is skeptical of any upside, assigning a price target of $41 and an "equal-weight" rating, as it sees most catalysts as already priced in. Birkenstock has since recovered, but barely breached its debut open price, closing on Friday at $41.16.

It has earned Amazon more than $1 billion from US households, newly unredacted portions of the suit allege. Public revelationsThe complaint’s newly unsealed portions, filed Thursday in Seattle federal court, uncover a wide range of previously non-public allegations. More than 70% of Amazon shoppers do not click past the first page of search results, according to the unsealed complaint. In another situation, Amazon allegedly took steps to promote its own, proprietary products — such as the Amazon Kindle tablet — as having been recommended by expert reviewers when the Amazon products had not earned such a recommendation. If the Amazon price went up, the competing retailers would increase their prices as well, according to the complaint.

Fero wants to reduce the level of friction customers face during this authentication process, the startup's cofounder and CEO Craig Savage said. Casting 2024 as a transition year, the group said that historic stock problems would continue to drag on sales and profitability during its current financial year, and it forecast sales declines of 5% to 15%. In its 2025 financial year, ASOS said it expected to return to growth with core earnings margin around pre-COVID levels.
