Businessman Eric Hovde won the Wisconsin Republican primary for Senate, NBC News projects, setting up a critical battleground state race against Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin. Baldwin’s seat is a top priority for both parties in the battle for control of the closely divided Senate. Baldwin has also fared better than the top of the Democratic ticket in some recent Wisconsin polling. An independently wealthy businessman, Hovde, who ran unsuccessfully for Senate in 2012, has already loaned his campaign $13 million. With Hovde long viewed as the favorite to win the GOP nomination, the two candidates have already been trading barbs.

The campaign has 36 coordinated offices and 300 staffers in Pennsylvania, which Harris has already visited seven times this year. CONCRETE, Wash. — Three people were killed in a house fire in a rural area northeast of Seattle and authorities are looking for a pickup truck that remains unaccounted for after the blaze, police said. The two-story home was destroyed in the Friday morning fire in the small town of Concrete, the Mount Vernon Police Department said in a statement. The Skagit County Medical Examiner will release the victims’ names after each one is identified. Police said one of the victims was an employee of Skagit County. The town of Concrete is about 96 miles (154 kilometers) northeast of Seattle.

If the line is headed south the dollar is weakening relative to the yen, and the yen is strengthening relative to the dollar. I believe that the July 11th CPI print that came 0.1% below expectations was the culprit to this whole yen carry unwind. Could this yen carry unwind move further?

Adani Group companies shed as much as $19 billion in market value on Monday after Hindenburg Research accused the Indian market regulator probing the group of having links to offshore funds also used by Adani. Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports were among the biggest losers on India’s blue-chip Nifty 50 index. Total losses in Adani companies narrowed to $9 billion after the early plunge. Parts of Canada’s Boreal Forest Are Burning Faster Than They Can Regrow The delicate balance of one the planet’s largest natural systems for storing carbon depends on the humble black spruce tree. The boreal forests are the largest forests in the world, and in Western Canada they evolved to burn once every century or so. What was troubling, Dr. Baltzer noted, is that fire isn’t supposed to make life harder for the black spruce tree. Any imbalance in this tug of war between life and death can threaten the boreal forests’ ability to store heat-trapping carbon. Given how huge the boreal forests are, her research could help shed light on which parts of the ecosystem were most important to protect.

Rome CNN —The skeletal remains of a man and a woman have been unearthed in Pompeii, along with a cache of coins and precious jewelry, archaeologists say. Clutched in her hands was a small cache of gold, silver and bronze coins, as well as gold and pearl earrings. “Trapped in the cramped little room, their deaths were caused by the pyroclastic flow that buried them,” the archaeologists said. A large bronze candelabrum was found on the floor. They have provided some of the most important discoveries ever made in the ancient city.
