CNN —Dutch driver Dilano van ’t Hoff, 18, died Saturday as the result of a crash during the second Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) race at Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot, Belgium, according to a statement from his team MP Motorsport. “We are devastated at the loss of one of our brightest Dutch talents, who brought so much energy to our team during the years he raced with us,” a team statement read. The 18-year-old Dutch driver joined MP Motorsport in 2021. FIA, motorsport’s governing body, confirmed the news and sent its “condolences to the family and friends of Dilano van ‘t Hoff and to the MP Motorsport Team” in a statement on Saturday. “We are so sad to learn of the passing of Dilano van ‘t Hoff today at Spa-Francorchamps,” he said in a statement.

LONDON, June 27 (Reuters) - A portrait of an unnamed woman by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt sold for 85.3 million pounds ($108.4 million) on Tuesday, setting a new record price for any work of art sold at an auction in Europe, London-based auction house Sotheby's said. The fall of the hammer at 74 million pounds broke the tension, triggering a collective exhalation in the room and a round of applause. The painting sold to a Hong Kong-based art advisory firm, bidding on behalf of a collector based there. It is now the most expensive Klimt artwork sold at auction anywhere in the world. It was last offered for sale nearly 30 years ago, when it was acquired by the family of the present owner for $11.6 million, according to the auction house.

"Dame mit Fächer" ("Lady with a Fan") - a portrait of an unnamed woman - was still on an easel in Klimt's studio when the painter died in February 1918. It leads Sotheby's Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction on June 27 in London, with a price estimate of around 65 million pounds ($80 million). Intel's stake sale of 20% was valued at $860 million, according to Reuters calculations. IMS, which was acquired by Intel in 2015, makes equipment that are critical for companies that make chips. It has delivered a significant return on investment to Intel while growing its workforce and production capacity by four times, Intel said. Bain Capital's investment in IMS will put it in a position to capture significant market share for its tools that are being widely adopted by chipmakers, Intel said.

Depicting an unidentified female subject, “Dame mit Fächer” (Lady with a Fan) was one of two paintings found at the Austrian artist’s studio upon his death in 1918, according to Sotheby’s auction house. Started in 1917, “Dame mit Fächer” is rendered in Klimt’s characteristically rich, expressive style. Sotheby's said it expects the painting the fetch "in the region of" $80 million when it goes under the hammer this month. Klimt’s “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I” was meanwhile bought by US businessman Ronald Lauder for a reported $135 million in 2006. “Dame mit Fächer” is the star lot in Sotheby’s modern and contemporary art summer auction, which takes place on June 27.

CNN —Part of the summit of a mountain in the Austrian state of Tyrol has collapsed, sending more than 100,000 cubic meters of rock crashing into the valley below and triggering mudslides. The geologists have pinned the collapse on the thawing of permafrost, a long-term frozen layer of soil and rocks. When permafrost thaws it can have a destabilizing effect, said Marcia Phillips, permafrost research group leader at the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research in Switzerland. “Water can penetrate deep into rock masses through newly opened clefts, which were previously plugged with permafrost ice,” she told CNN, explaining that this can lead rocks to fracture. But, as human-caused climate change pushes up global temperatures, leading to thawing permafrost and melting snow and glaciers, rockfalls in this region look set to become more common.

Verstappen won last year in Canada from pole position ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, the seven times world champion who has won a record-equalling seven times there. "Of course, last year's win is still in my mind so hopefully we can do something similar this weekend," said Verstappen. Mercedes overtook Aston Martin for second place in the constructors' standings after Spain, where they were Red Bull's closest rivals. Ferrari received a morale boost last weekend when they won the Le Mans 24 Hours and enjoyed a strong weekend in Montreal last year.
