ETSimone Biles is looking to add yet another Olympic gold medal to her growing collection at the Paris Games. This time, she will compete in the vault final, where — once again — she is the favorite to win. If she does win, it will be her seventh Olympic gold medal and 10th over all. Andrade won the vault gold medal at the Tokyo Games after Biles pulled out of several events with a mental block. She won the team gold medal with the U.S. squad this week and also won gold on the floor exercise in Tokyo.

Protesters demonstrate against the National Election Council certification of President Nicolas Maduro's reelection in Caracas, Venezuela, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. The AP processed almost 24,000 images of tally sheets, representing the results from 79% of voting machines. National Electoral Council President Elvis Amoroso attributed the delay in updating results to "massive attacks" on the "technological infrastructure." The AP could not independently verify the authenticity of the 24,532 tally sheets provided by the opposition. The tally sheets, known in Spanish as "actas," are lengthy printouts that resemble shopping receipts.

SAG HARBOR, N.Y. — Justin Timberlake appeared virtually at a Friday hearing for his driving while intoxicated case, where the judge announced the pop star's driver's license would be suspended and admonished his lawyer over "irresponsible" comments. The singer, 43, claimed he had just “one martini” before he was pulled over. He pleaded not guilty and his attorney, Edward Burke Jr., said in a statement at the time: “I look forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake on these allegations. But once police spoke to Timberlake, they said, it was clear he was not in shape to drive, according to the complaint, written by Sag Harbor Village Police Officer Michael Arkinson. Timberlake struggled to walk heel-to-toe and stand on one foot without swaying or using arms to balance, the report said.

A drunk driver who killed four people and injured nine more when he crashed his SUV into a Long Island nail salon was driving 78 mph at the time of the crash, prosecutors said Thursday as the driver pleaded not guilty to a multitude of charges that include murder and vehicular manslaughter. Steven Schwally, 64, entered the pleas to a 38-count indictment for the deadly June 28 crash at the Hawaii Nail & Spa store in Deer Park. Prosecutors said in court papers that Schwally purchased two 375-milliliter bottles of Montebello Long Island Iced Tea at 11 a.m. on the day of the crash. Investigators determined that he was driving 78 mph (125 kph) one second before the crash, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said Schwally had no regular address and had been living in hotels for more than a year.

But you're going to struggle if you're looking for a new one. "Even a few months ago, the labor market seemed fine, the trajectory looked stable," said Guy Berger, director of economic research at the Burning Glass Institute, a think tank. The Fed therefore believes it can put a floor underneath the labor market that prevents it from deteriorating further, Berger said. "What we need to see is strong private-sector labor market growth, and outside of health care, what we've seen instead is a very, very rapid deceleration that has shown no signs yet of stabilizing," Pollak said. Pollak also said leisure and hospitality jobs — a key entry point into the labor market — have actually declined outright in recent months, putting further pressure on workers to secure employment.

Venezuela's opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia thanked the U.S. on Friday for recognizing him as the official winner of Sunday's controversial presidential election, in which both González Urrutia and President Nicolás Maduro claimed victory. "Those tally sheets indicate that Edmundo González Urrutia received the most votes in this election by an insurmountable margin," Blinken said in a statement Thursday. "Given the overwhelming evidence, it is clear to the United States and, most importantly, to the Venezuelan people that Edmundo González Urrutia won." Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, center left, and opposition presidential candidate Edmundo González, center right, greet supporters at a protest against the result of the presidential election in Caracas, Venezuela, on Tuesday. The park service said it is investigating the incident with the local medical examiner’s office and no additional details were immediately available. According to National Park Service data, there were 205 fatal falls across the entire park system between 2014 and 2019, the most recent year available. At Grand Canyon National Park, which has recorded millions of visitors annually for decades, there were 14 deaths in the same period. An NBC News analysis last year found that Washington state's North Cascades National Park had the highest fatality rate in the country.

Intel and Amazon's weak earnings reports also contributed to Friday's stock market decline. The unemployment rate also unexpectedly rose to 4.3% from 4.1%, its highest level since October 2021.
