The new Barbie movie used so much pink paint on set that it caused an international shortage. Production designer Sarah Greenwood told Architectural Digest the "world ran out of pink." Greenwood told the magazine that constructing the set resulted in an international shortage of the fluorescent shade of Rosco paints. "The world ran out of pink," she told Architectural Digest. In one clip the Barbie Dreamhouse can be seen featuring a pink slide that descends into a pool, a pink shower, a pink bed, and lots of other pink accessories.

CNN —Ryan Gosling channeled his “Ken-ergy” to defend himself against those who think he’s “too old” to play doll Ken in the new “Barbie” movie. The origin of this silliness began back in April when the first “Barbie” movie trailer was released and a debate on social media ensued, with some users voicing their opinion that the 42-year-old actor appeared too “grown up” to play Ken. “If people don’t want to play with my Ken, there are many other Kens to play with,” Gosling said in a new GQ interview published on Wednesday in response to those skeptics. You never cared,” he said, adding that “if you ever really cared about Ken, you would know that nobody cared about Ken. So your hypocrisy is exposed.”(From left) Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie in 'Barbie.'

In the 1950s, Ruth Handler, the woman behind Barbie, found it difficult to find support for her idea. After being warned it was a bad idea and that no one would buy it, Barbie was a huge hit. Mattel, Handler's toy company, went on to make billions of dollars off the doll. But she kept selling and remains the most popular doll in the world. In July, the highly-anticipated "Barbie" movie, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie as the titular character, will be released.

After a year of maneuvering on both sides, Walt Disney Co. is suing Florida Gov. Photo Composition: Rachel RogersWhen Walt Disney Co. reports second-quarter earnings Wednesday afternoon, all eyes will be on streaming, but not for the usual reasons. Investors will be looking for the entertainment giant to show meaningful progress cutting losses in its direct-to-consumer business, which includes flagship streaming service Disney+, as well as other platforms such as Hulu, ESPN+ and India’s Hotstar. Since Disney+ launched in November 2019, most of the attention has been on the service’s rapid pace of growth. Over the past couple of quarters, direct-to-consumer losses have narrowed, from $1.47 billion in the October quarter to $1.05 billion in the holiday quarter.

The company’s direct-to-consumer segment, which includes streaming, lost $659 million in the quarter ended April 1, far less than the $845 million loss that analysts polled by FactSet had anticipated.

Summer movie preview 2023

CNN —Most moviegoers can pinpoint one summer movie – or perhaps, a summer of movies – in their formative years that really and truly cemented their love for going to the cinema, whether it be 1975’s “Jaws,” “E.T. And while streaming has clearly siphoned off part of the audience, particularly for more serious films, what we think of as “summer movies” still have the potential to rake in cash just like the old days. (CNN and DC are both part of the same parent company, Warner Bros. Courtesy Warner Bros. PicturesInitially meant for streaming platforms, this vehicle will herald the cinematic arrival of DC Studios’ first Latino superhero, played by Xolo Maridueña of “Cobra Kai” and “Parenthood” fame. If the fast-paced trailer is any indication, the movie looks sure to whisk those dog days of summer doldrums away quite nicely.
Can Nintendo stay competitive in the evolving videogames industry? WSJ’s Sarah E. Needleman and analyst Michael Pachter discuss Nintendo’s game-changing approach to the videogames industry. The founder of the animation studio behind “Super Mario” and the yellow, chattering “minions” cartoon characters says his movies aren’t made specifically for children. “Thematically there’s an underpinning to every one of our films. “When we sit down in our creative process, we’re never intending or focused on, ‘We’re making it for children,’ though it may come out that way.”

And, for once, the success of a Marvel film could bode well for the future of its longtime adversary. On the theatrical side, DC Studios has announced five new projects that will roll out starting in 2025 with Gunn's own "Superman: Legacy." "And I think Marvel Studios, sooner rather than later, needs to tell us what's going on with Spider-Man." He sees this as the result of predictable plotlines within the genre that are repeated across both studios' films. Marvel Studios
What Would Karl Have Thought of It All?

What would Karl have thought? Watching the stream of Lagerfeld-a-likes mount the steps of the Met Monday night in their black and white, it was hard not to wonder. Yes, the evening’s dress code dictated “in honor of Karl,” the evening itself in honor of the opening of the Costume Institute exhibition dedicated to the designer’s work. Yes, Mr. Lagerfeld had made himself into a caricature, with his uniform of black jeans, high white-collared shirt, black jacket, fingerless gloves, black silk cravats and black shades. Also old Chloé: a remade violin dress, originally designed by Mr. Lagerfeld in 1983, on Olivia Wilde and a remade shower dress from the same collection, revived for Vanessa Kirby.
[1/2] Australia rugby union coach Eddie Jones poses with a ball, flanked by Wallabies players Andrew Kellaway and Reece Hodge at a news conference, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, in Melbourne, Australia, May 1, 2023. Whether the AFL’s late press call was by coincidence or design, Rugby Australia officials were left fuming as the spotlight shifted away from their global sport to the homegrown game popular in only the nation's southern states. Appointed in January, Jones's second stint in charge of the Wallabies sees them much diminished from his first when he took them to the final of the 2003 World Cup on home soil. In 2002, Jones was the last Australian coach to win the Bledisloe Cup, the annual series against New Zealand. Rugby Australia will hope Jones can deliver Rugby Championship wins along with his sharp wit and penchant for a sound bite to help build more buzz around the fallen twice World Cup winners.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suggested it would be a short fight when he first threatened to strip Walt Disney Co. of the power to govern its magic kingdom of theme parks, waterslides and hotels around Orlando. A year later, Mr. DeSantis is enmeshed in a drawn-out conflict with the entertainment giant that has shifted from the political realm into the courts, with no end in sight.
