The transaction, which reflects the guaranteed minimum value of $27.5 billion for the streaming service the two sides agreed upon in 2019 , is expected to close by Dec. 1. Disney stock climbed 2.4% Thursday, to trade at roughly $83 a share. But the new ownership structure should allow Disney to create a more valuable streaming service as a single product under the Disney+ umbrella. Disney's widely expected deal to acquire the remainder of Hulu comes as the company continues to struggle to make its streaming business profitable, even if losses have been narrowing of late. But the development of a one-stop-shop for all Disney's streaming content should at least enhance the customer experience, while also improving engagement.

But it leaves only one significant nuclear weapons pact between Russia and the United States in place: the New START treaty. The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, or CTBT, was an attempt under the umbrella of the United Nations to ban all nuclear tests. Adopted in 1996, it never came into effect because not enough key countries, including the United States, have ratified it. The New START is now the only nuclear weapons deal between the United States and Russia. Although Mr. Putin announced last February that Russia was suspending its participation, Russia has thus far stuck to the treaty limits.

A rabbi walks in the courtyard of a synagogue in the ancient city of Debent on the Caspian Sea coast in Russia's Caucasus region of Dagestan August 17, 2007. Dagestan became part of the Russian empire in 1813, when Tsarist forces prised it away from Persia. Known locally as "Mountain Jews", they speak a dialect of the Farsi or Persian language spoken in Iran to the south. Some scholars believe that the first Mountain Jews, like members of many other Jewish communities, started to emigrate to a prospective homeland in what was then Ottoman-ruled Palestine as early as the 19th century. Rabbi Ovadia Isakov, the best-known contemporary Mountain Jewish rabbi, told Russian media that 300-400 families remained in Derbent.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's Shi'ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called on the Iraqi government and parliament on Friday to vote to close the U.S. embassy in Iraq for its "unfettered support of Israel." "If the government and parliament do not abide by this demand, we will go for further actions which we will later announce," the statement said. Hundreds of supporters of Iranian-backed Iraqi paramilitary groups gathered last week at Iraq's main border crossing with Jordan to express solidarity with Gaza and call for an end to Israel's blockade. Some 800 supporters of Iraq's Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), an umbrella group of mainly Shi'ite militia, departed from Baghdad last week in buses for the Iraqi-Jordanian border crossing in western Anbar province. It is the closest access point from Iraq to the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

The ministry said the actual number of dead is likely to be much higher than stated in the report. The Palestinian Authority is run by a rival faction to Hamas, though the umbrella Ministry of Health maintains a relationship with the ministry in Gaza. But international agencies, including the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO), report figures provided by the Gaza ministry. The Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, Mohammad Shtayyeh, criticized Biden’s remarks, saying his health authority in the West Bank believed the Gaza numbers to be accurate. “I don’t have the numbers of people killed in Gaza Strip,” IDF Lieutenant Colonel Richard Hecht told CNN.

If Hamas persists as a military force and is still running Gaza after this war is over, it will attack Israel again. And whether or not Hezbollah opens a true second front from Lebanon during this conflict, it, too, will attack Israel in the future. As one commander in the Israeli military said, “If we do not defeat Hamas, we cannot survive here.”Israel is not alone in believing it must defeat Hamas. Only a few Arab states openly condemned the Hamas massacre of more than 1,400 people in Israel. An outcome that leaves Hamas in control will doom not just Gaza but also much of the rest of the Middle East.

Both men remained valued employees at Carta, with the sales representative even getting promoted just weeks after the alleged "helicopter penis" incident, according to former employees. CEO Henry Ward cofounded Carta, originally called eShares, in 2012 as a service for startups to digitize their paper stock certificates. Today Carta helps startups track their investors, employees manage their equity awards, and venture capitalists administer their funds. The lawsuit says that 10 days after Rogers filed her complaint, Ward "began treating Ms. Rogers in an aggressive and demeaning manner during several meetings." Many of the employees who have spoken out publicly about Carta and Ward have found themselves embroiled in expensive legal battles.

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has submitted a protocol for Sweden's admission into NATO to Turkey's parliament for ratification, his office said Monday. Erdogan had been delaying ratification of Sweden's membership, accusing Stockholm of being too soft on Kurdish militants and other groups he considers to be security threats. All 31 NATO allies must endorse Sweden's membership. It was not immediately known when Sweden's membership would come to the floor. Earlier this month, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urged Turkey to quickly ratify Sweden's membership in the military organization.

REUTERS/Hollie Adams/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 20 (Reuters) - Ratings agency Moody's revised Britain's outlook to "stable" from "negative" on Friday, saying policy predictability has been restored after heightened volatility last year around the so-called "mini-budget" under then-Prime Minister Liz Truss. Moody's last changed its outlook on Britain one year ago, when Truss had spooked markets with unfunded tax pledges, culminating in her resignation. "Policy predictability has been restored after heightened volatility last year around the mini-budget," the ratings agency said, affirming the country's rating at "Aa3". The government borrowed 81.7 billion pounds ($99.35 billion) in the first half of the 2023/24 financial year, 15.3 billion pounds more than between April and September 2022, but about 20 billion pounds less than the government forecast in March. On Friday S&P affirmed its AA rating and stable outlook for Britain.

I have a 401(k) from an old job, so I asked a financial planner what to do with the funds. Unsure of what to do with the money inside that old 401(k), I chatted with certified financial planner Faron Daugs for advice. Roll your old 401(k) into your current employer's planWhile this option doesn't apply to me because I'm self-employed, one route that Daugs suggested is rolling your old 401(k) plan into the 401(k) plan offered by your current employer. A Roth 401(k) is similar to a Roth IRA and a 401(k), where you make post-tax contributions and earnings inside the account grow tax-free. Daugs also said going this route means you won't get taxed on any distributions from your old 401(k) plan.
