Meta first confirmed in March that it's working on a Twitter competitor codenamed "Project 92." The audience reportedly cheered as he said people wanted a platform that's "sanely run." A Meta executive appeared to make fun of Elon Musk when telling staff about its Twitter competitor, The Verge reported. Twitter has sparked several controversies since Musk took over the platform, like its Twitter Blue subscription service which lets anybody get an official-looking blue checkmark. Executives added Meta's Twitter competitor will work with other apps like Mastodon and Bluesky because it uses the same protocol, ActivityPub, which is made up of decentralized servers, The New York Times reported.

The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled in favor of Jack Daniel's in a trademark fight over "poop-themed" dog toys that resemble the company's famous whiskey bottles. Circuit Court of Appeals in 2020 ruled in favor of VIP Products, saying its toys are protected under the First Amendment, which prompted Jack Daniel's to seek further review from the Supreme Court. CNN —For a man whose life has been marked by ceaseless public interest in his every move, Prince Harry’s performance over the last few days has felt remarkably amateur. The issue of phone hacking by Britain’s tabloid media is far more insidious than some coverage of Harry’s testimony might suggest. In 2021, it settled phone hacking claims with other actors including Martin Clunes and David Walliams, and issued an apology. So much of Harry’s life and experience is unrelatable and apparently contradictory. But none of us is ever likely to be judged as exhaustively — or as loudly — as Prince Harry.

REUTERS/Tim HepherWASHINGTON, June 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. aviation regulator said on Wednesday it was proposing comprehensive training and pilot certification rules for flying taxis, electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft (eVTOL), which have been touted as the future of urban air mobility. Low-altitude urban aircraft have drawn intense global interest, with numerous eVTOL companies going public. In May, the FAA issued an "updated blueprint" for airspace and other changes to accommodate future air taxis. Last year, the FAA issued the airworthiness criteria that air taxi startup Joby Aviation (JOBY.N) must meet for its Model JAS4-1 eVTOL aircraft and Archer Aviation (ACHR.N) for its air taxi to be certified for use.

Moments later, its crew are marched away with their hands on their heads, concluding a simulation of a counter-terrorism operation in the South China Sea between the coast guards of the Philippines, and allies the United States and Japan. Tuesday's manoeuvre is part of an inaugural trilateral coast guard exercise between the three countries, coming at a time of growing unease over China's maritime conduct in the region. The drill was a mock interception of a vessel carrying weapons of mass destruction, where Philippines coast guard personnel encounter armed resistance while boarding the vessel and are tasked with bringing the situation under control. "All the exercises we do, we help one another to prepare for anything that may possibly happen in the future," said John Ybanez, a spokesperson for the Philippine coast guard. The exercises in waters off Bataan province involve more than 500 coast guard personnel and also include search and rescue and counter-piracy scenarios.

He's since built a business selling customizable Photoshop design templates and mock-ups online. In 2012, I started selling templates on GraphicRiver — a marketplace where you can sell digital templates, vectors, and Adobe add-ons — to diversify my income. In Romania, I pivoted my freelancing efforts from creating printable graphics to designing templates for clients' branding, web design, and 3D design. I was making five times as much from my template business as I was as a freelancer and it was less stressful. A well-designed website showcased my work and lent credibility to my business, helping attract clients and establish trust.

A crude joke that Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., used to mock what he said was then-2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump's "small hands" will be the centerpiece of a Supreme Court ruling on whether a California lawyer can trademark the phrase "Trump too small." The "Trump too small" phrase is a reference to a 2016 Republican presidential primary debate featuring both Trump and Rubio. Rubio joked about Trump having small hands, adding: "And you know what they say about guys with small hands." In a February 2022 ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled against the trademark office, saying the denial violated Elster's free speech rights under the Constitution's First Amendment. The Supreme Court in recent years has endorsed free speech rights in the trademark context, suggesting Elster could have a chance of prevailing in the case.

Donald Trump spent some of Thursday complaining about calling things "woke." His objection — based on the idea that the term is poorly understood — did not last long. Later on Thursday he was back to using it liberally to trash the US military. He said: "I don't like the term 'woke' because I hear 'woke, woke, woke' — you know, it's like just a term they use, half the people can't even define it, they don't know what it is." There has long been speculation that America's most-famous banker has plans to run for some sort of public office. In Bly’s view, part of the answer was to recreate ancient rites of male initiation and restore mentoring between young men and their elders, a relationship that instructs boys to channel, but not suppress, their instincts. And he urges young men to assume greater responsibility for their own lives (“Ditching porn is a good place to start,” Hawley writes) as a step toward glimpsing that missing vision of manhood. To dismiss or mock such views merely because they come from Josh Hawley is to let partisan commitments overwhelm intellectual ones. “Much of today’s left seems to welcome men who are passive and tame, who will do as they are told and sit in their cubicles, eyes affixed to their screens,” Hawley writes. Hawley is not necessarily wrong when he complains about the mixed messages aimed at young men today — Your identity is yours to shape and claim, but why are you so toxic and oppressive?

(CNN) — Never-before-seen draft lyrics of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” suggest that Freddie Mercury considered giving his mock-opera anthem a somewhat different title: “Mongolian Rhapsody.”The discovery was made following the emergence of a 15-page folio of lyrics, vocal lines and harmonies handwritten by the singer as he composed his 1975 hit. Queen recorded “Bohemian Rhapsody” the next year. Sotheby's auction house said the handwritten lyrics present "untold insights into other possible directions the song could have taken." That urban wildland by the BART station was turned into an official city park in 1979, with manicured lawns and a volleyball court, but the station is still ringed by a parking lot. I’ve been thinking about both lately, and the old neighborhood, because there is a new effort — led by BART itself — to cover the parking lot with apartment buildings. Alarmed neighbors leapt into action, organizing through a pair of resistance groups called North Berkeley Neighborhood Alliance and Neighbors Not Towers. At any other time in the previous 50 years, these two groups could well have killed the North Berkeley BART apartments before they broke ground. And the planning commission, when it finally took up the issue of North Berkeley BART, recommended towers of seven to 12 stories, with the possibility of 18 and room for perhaps 2,000 residents.
From Allbirds sneakers to Lululemon pants, Wall Street work attire has gotten more casual. It's an awkward time for the Wall Street wardrobe. All-white Sam Smith sneakers is now acceptable Wall Street internship attire.
They beat prisoners relentlessly and tortured them with electric shocks, waterboarding and mock executions. Yet such was their sense of impunity, the Russians who seized control of a detention center in southern Ukraine last year and filled it with 200 detainees were careless about concealing their identities. Last week, Ukrainian prosecutors announced war crimes charges against four members of the Russian National Guard — the commander who ran the detention facility and three of his subordinates. They were accused in absentia for cruel treatment of civilians and violating the laws of war. Investigators say they have uncovered hundreds of crimes that were carried out under the Russian occupation, including executions and deaths in custody, torture, sexual violence and beatings in the recaptured areas.
HBO's hit show "Succession" airs its series finale Sunday night, with Waystar Royco's future in the balance. It captures the spirit of boardroom drama, but takes some liberties with corporate law, experts said. On HBO's hit show "Succession," the beats of a proxy fight are sometimes just as intense as a scheming betrayal from a once loyal lackey. Over four seasons, the show has laid out a thesis about the all-encompassing gravitational force of Logan Roy, the media mogul behind the fictional news and entertainment conglomerate Waystar Royco. "But the failure of the board to engage in any succession planning at all, is a first thing to note," she said.

DeSantis had granted Musk his first official 2024 interview, snubbing Murdoch’s Fox News in the process for the prized media appearance. Reporter breaks down how Twitter is seizing Fox News' conservative momentum 01:09 - Source: CNNBut Wednesday’s events proved that to be far from the case, with Musk’s Twitter Spaces event being marred by embarrassing technical glitches. The sound repeatedly cut in and out, ultimately leading to Musk ending the Spaces event and starting a fresh one under Sacks’ account. Once the second Twitter Spaces finally got going, DeSantis, Musk, and Sacks predictably trained their attention on bashing the establishment press. It was something of great irony to listen to: A Twitter Spaces event centered on attacking legacy media while simultaneously failing horribly at replicating what legacy media outlets do on a daily basis.
Big Tech is losing its appeal for new graduates and young tech workers starting to look elsewhere to launch their careers. Peers and mentors warn them to avoid the trappings of embarking on a Big Tech career. Based on conversations with students and companies, even students from top schools including Stanford and MIT and junior engineers from top tech companies are "feeling the crunch now," Lerner said. Tech students are applying to jobs in other fieldsWhile students and young engineers are still interested in pursuing tech-focused careers, where they want to put in their time is changing. The impact of waning interest in Big Tech among students on major companies remains to be seen.
What Billy understands, and what the movie so beautifully expresses, is that streetball is about more than merely who is the most accomplished player. When Billy drains a three-pointer in a shootout, Sidney nonetheless derides his style: “No aesthetic beauty whatsoever,” he jeers. Or as one of Sidney’s friend puts it, after Sidney’s more elegant three in reply: “A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Only “White Men Can’t Jump” has captured the power of talking smack. “You’d rather look good and lose,” he tells him, “than look bad and win.” It’s an apt diagnosis, but it cuts both ways.
Ukrainian pilots can master F-16 jets in four months, per an Air Force document obtained by Yahoo News. The internal assessment is likely to ratchet up pressure on Biden to send Ukraine the planes. Four experienced US air force instructors assessed the Ukrainian pilots and determined the pilots could perform several "relatively technical" maneuvers, including landing after losing an engine and withstanding mock attacks, Yahoo News reported, citing the assessment. The two men were already qualified to operate a MiG-29 and Su-27 respectively, both Soviet-era fighter jets that comprise the majority of Ukraine's remaining air force, according to the outlet. But the report published by Yahoo on Thursday deduces that four months is a "realistic training timeline" for Ukrainian pilots to undergo training on the aircraft.
