SEATTLE (AP) — Inside the ballroom of a swanky downtown Seattle athletic club another small piece to the legacy of Pac-12 football ended Thursday. The Morris Trophy was never a name-brand award handed out following the college football season in part because it honored offensive and defensive linemen, players who sometimes don't get the recognition they deserve. If there’s any other awards like that in the country, we haven’t found one yet,” said Wayne Milner, chairman of the Morris Trophy board. Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees Bruce Matthews, Randall McDaniel, Gary Zimmerman and Tony Boselli have won the award. There’s talk of trying to continue the award in some way, but if it does it won’t be the same.

CNN —The special prosecutor hired by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to pursue the criminal case against former President Donald Trump bought tickets for Willis to accompany him on at least two out-of-state trips, records released Friday show. The motion comes as a Fulton County commissioner has launched an inquiry into allegations that Willis misused county funds and “accepted valuable gifts and personal benefits” from Nathan Wade, according to a letter obtained by CNN. Willis has received a subpoena to appear at a deposition as part of the divorce proceedings on Tuesday. And on January 31, there is a hearing at Cobb County Superior Court regarding whether to unseal the records in the divorce case. The Fulton County judge overseeing the Georgia election subversion case has also set a February 15 hearing to consider another motion seeking to disqualify Willis over allegations of an “improper” relationship with Nathan Wade.

A new group of bond funds aims to give investors a way to bet on specific segments of the corporate bond market, potentially creating more control in an interest rate environment that looks to be volatile in 2024. F/m Investments announced Wednesday that it will launch three corporate bond funds targeting certain times to maturity. The new suite of funds starts with three offerings: a 2-Year Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (ZTWO), a 3-Year Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (ZTRE) and a 10-Year Investment Grade Corporate Bond ETF (ZTEN). Benchmark series, which F/m launched starting in 2022 and gives investors tools to target specific maturities on the Treasury curve. Corporate bond defaults soared 80% in 2023, though most of the damage was done from lower-rated and heavily indebted companies.

The acquisition allows Synopsys to expand the industries it targets. Photo: David Paul Morris/Bloomberg NewsSynopsys agreed to acquire Ansys for $35 billion of cash and stock in a deal that would expand the company’s reach in simulation software for designers of microchips, cars and airplanes. Synopsys is one of two big players, along with Cadence, in the software that chip designers use to lay out circuitry and test it prior to manufacturing. As chip-making advances and designers start to stack silicon wafers on top of each other, physics simulations like those Ansys provides have become increasingly important.

There's also an ongoing debate about whether an agreement should center on "abated" fossil fuels, which are trapped and stocked with carbon capture and storage technologies, or "unabated" fossil fuels, which are largely understood to be produced and used without substantial reductions in the amount of emitted greenhouse gases. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Dec 1(Reuters) - The Ethereum blockchain's historical greenhouse gas emissions before a major software upgrade last year were equivalent to the yearly emissions of Honduras, a University of Cambridge study showed on Friday. From its launch in 2015 until the Merge, Ethereum's greenhouse gas emissions totalled 27.5 million tonnes carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e), the study showed. Its current yearly emissions are around 2.8 kilotonnes carbon dioxide equivalent, the study found - around the same as five round-trip flights from London to New York. It is generally thought that blockchain is "a highly emitting technology," said Anna Lerner, executive director at the Ethereum Climate Platform, an organisation that seeks to use blockchain tech to accelerate climate finance. The annual emissions of Bitcoin, the largest blockchain and cryptocurrency, are therefore roughly equivalent to those of Cambodia in 2020, according to Climate Watch.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California (AP) — From underwater drones to electronic warfare, the U.S. is expanding its high-tech military cooperation with Australia and the United Kingdom as part of a broader effort to counter China’s rapidly growing influence in the Indo-Pacific. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with defense chiefs from Australia and the United Kingdom at the U.S. military’s defense technology hub in Silicon Valley on Friday to forge a new agreement to increase technology cooperation and information sharing. The three nations have laid out plans for the so-called AUKUS partnership to help equip Australia with a fleet of eight nuclear-powered submarines. “It shows the psychological mind frame of consumers,” said Mickey Chadha, vice president of corporate finance at Moody’s Investors Services, referring to holiday spending data. This year, dollar sales growth for the holidays in the United States is forecast to slow to 3.3% from 6% last year. It means the spending growth it reported was “driven by net-new demand, not simply higher prices,” Adobe said. The experts CNN spoke to were all in agreement: Holiday spending data — no matter how good or bad — doesn’t represent the state of the entire US economy.
