(AP) — An animal trainer featured in the popular Netflix series “Tiger King” has received a suspended two-year sentence after being convicted of wildlife trafficking in Virginia, the state attorney general’s office announced. Antle was accused of illegally buying endangered lion cubs in Frederick County, Virginia, for display and profit at his South Carolina zoo. A jury convicted him in June of two felony counts each of wildlife trafficking and conspiring to wildlife traffic. CNN —A female sea lion briefly escaped from her enclosure in New York’s Central Park Zoo Friday when heavy rain caused her pool to flood. Water levels in the sea lions’ pool have since receded, and all animals are in their designated exhibits, the news release noted. Central Park Zoo is part of the world’s largest network of urban wildlife parks, which also includes the Bronx Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo and New York Aquarium. California sea lions like the ones housed by the Central Park Zoo are native to the West Coast, according to NOAA. As adults, female sea lions can weigh up to 240 pounds and measure up to 6 feet long, NOAA said.

The entertainment giant last week announced a commemorative box set containing its most acclaimed animated films from its storied history. The Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection features 100 films — one for each year of the House of Mouse's century-long history. Next month, Disney will increase the price of its Disney+ streaming service, where many of these films can be found, to $13.99 per month. That means the new box set will cost the same as roughly nine years of ad-free Disney+, or more than 15 years of the ad-supported $7.99 per month plan. Also in the box is a lithograph poster of "Wish," the company's upcoming animated film which will commemorate its centennial anniversary.

ROME (AP) — “Poor Things,” a film about Victorian-era female empowerment, won the Golden Lion on Saturday at a Venice Film Festival largely deprived of Hollywood glamour because of the writers and actors strikes. The film, starring Emma Stone, won the top prize at the 80th edition of the festival, which is often a predictor of Oscar glory. The film tells the story of two young boys’ odyssey from Dakar, Senegal, to the detention camps in Libya and finally across the Mediterranean to Europe. Peter Sarsgaard won best actor for “Memory,” in which he co-stars with Jessica Chastain in a film about high schoolers reuniting. Cailee Spaeny won best actress for “Priscilla,” Sofia Coppola's portrait of the private side of Priscilla and Elvis Presley.
