Andy Beshear has seized a commanding fundraising lead over Republican challenger Daniel Cameron in their marquee matchup in Kentucky, their latest campaign finance reports showed. Heading into the fall campaign, Beshear had the advantage of a noncompetitive spring primary campaign, while Cameron exhausted most of his funds during a crowded GOP primary. Cameron’s campaign reported raising about $2.3 million in contributions since May. Cameron's campaign contends their grassroots support is deeper, given the state's GOP strength, especially across the vast rural stretches of the Bluegrass State. We are confident that with our conservative message, robust fundraising and extensive travel schedule, Daniel Cameron will defeat Andy Beshear,” Sean Southard, a Cameron campaign spokesman, said in a statement.

In the meantime, the Biden campaign plans to focus its message on warnings about Trump — which campaign officials hope will energize the party's grassroots and spur more donations. Some campaign officials see an opportunity for an influx of contributions when Trump's legal trials begin. A Biden campaign official who softened expectations for the coming fundraising disclosure said Republican candidates may have also had a slow summer. The Biden campaign will try to galvanize rank-and-file Democrats with new merchandise and ways for contributors to "engage" with the president, two sources said. Recently the Biden campaign began a fundraising contest to win dinner with Biden and former President Barack Obama.

DeSantis, 44, is Trump's top rival, but remains some 40 percentage points behind the former president in opinion polls. He is a fervent supporter of the former president and says he would pardon Trump should he win the White House. Haley has gained a reputation in the Republican Party as a solid conservative who has the ability to address issues of gender and race in a more credible fashion than many of her peers. Opna, a startup that helps carbon removal projects get funded, just raised $6.5 million. Opna, which helps corporations invest in carbon removal or reduction projects, has just secured $6.5 million from European venture capital firm Atomico. The London-based startup, founded in 2022 as Salt, helps corporations find, fund, and monitor carbon removal projects. Carbon removal projects generate carbon credits, one of which represents one ton of Co2 removed from or prevented from entering the atmosphere. This led to market hesitation and a subsequent move to fund carbon removal projects directly via forward-purchasing and long-term off-take agreements.

"It is the tip of the iceberg publicly of what we used to see privately," Veronica Boquete, who captained Spain at their first World Cup in 2015, told Reuters. In the case of football, the women's team's efforts to combat sexism and achieve parity with their male peers date back nearly a decade. Boquete led a mutiny seeking the resignation of coach Ignacio Quereda after a woeful performance at the 2015 World Cup, the only one his teams reached in nearly three decades. Quereda resigned in 2015 in a statement issued by the federation making no reference to the players' mutiny. Mahendran has joined the Sydney YIMBY (Yes In My Backyard) group, a fledgling grassroots movement seeking higher density housing in opposition to those branded NIMBYs (Not In My Backyard) that fight new and large developments, particularly in gentrified inner-city areas. For a continent as large and sparsely populated as Australia, it is almost counter-intuitive there could be a housing shortage. While the YIMBY movement is in its infancy in Australia, it marks a shift in community attitudes towards development as affordability worsens and a push for shorter commutes and better facilities become features of post-pandemic urban living. "The future is up by way of density," said Liz Allen, a researcher at Australian National University in Canberra. Greater Canberra, the YIMBY group in Canberra, has received support from both Labor and Greens for its push to lift density across the Australian Central Territory.

After Hurricane Michael struck Florida in 2018, home sales rose significantly, allowing disaster investors to reap the rewards. This venture has the potential to be even more rewarding given the increasing frequency of natural disasters in the US. But federal disaster relief is painfully slow to respond and often doesn't cover most of the costs. And while moratoriums on damaged land sales aren't a long-term, legally tenable solution, there are ways state officials might be able to deter disaster investors. As the threat of natural disasters increases, so will disaster profiteers.

The city hopes to rectify its history of environmental racism with a new Climate Equity Plan. It was also the only place Black people were allowed to purchase housing in the city. For all these reasons, previously redlined neighborhoods suffer from extreme heat. Humble beginningsPutin and Prigozhin share relatively humble beginnings, and the Wagner chief grew up in the tougher neighborhoods of St. Petersburg, which is also the president’s hometown. Prigozhin founded Wagner that year as a mercenary outfit that fought both in Ukraine and, increasingly, for Russian-backed causes around the world. In recent months, Prigozhin has created a dilemma for Putin by becoming an outspoken critic of Russia’s military leaders. The Wagner mutiny began when Prigozhin unleashed a fresh tirade against the Russian military and then marched his troops into the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don. Prigozhin responded on Telegram saying that Putin was “deeply mistaken.”“We are patriots of our Motherland, we fought and are fighting,” the Wagner chief said.

More than 10 million acres were affected in 2015 and 2017. Last year, the cost of suppressing wildfires across 7.6 million acres surpassed $3.5 billion, according to the center. Philadelphia recently announced it would buy 91 properties containing green spaces and gardens. Studies show urban gardens can help keep neighborhoods cooler and perhaps reduce gun violence and depression. The urban garden he helped start nearly a decade ago on abandoned lots in West Philadelphia was finally protected. Thousands of properties tied up in the deal sat neglected for decades, and locals transformed some into urban gardens. Many Black and brown neighborhoods don't have enough green spaces, which makes residents more susceptible to extreme heat.

CNN —Ecuadorians have voted to ban oil drilling in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, the Yasuní National Park, situated in the Amazon rainforest. The Yasuní National Park park spans around 1 million hectares (2.5 million acres) at the meeting point of the Amazon, the Andes and the Equator. In 2016, the Ecuadorian state oil company began drilling in Block 43 – around 0.01% of the National Park – which today produces more than 55,000 barrels a day, amounting to around 12% of Ecuador’s oil production. But despite the widespread damage in Lahaina, more remains at risk. As recovery efforts continue, Hawaii residents have urged tourists to stay away and slammed them for clogging roads and delaying supply deliveries. For example, one person made a viral spreadsheet of more than 1,000 verified Lahaina residents that included their stories, what they needed, and how to pay them directly. Many Lahaina residents in the spreadsheet detailed their needs for food, clothes, and shelter after losing everything in the fire. And along the Gulf Coast, officials are now grappling with how to handle two potentially deadly disasters set to compound: a hurricane and extreme heat. Last week, the city issued an emergency declaration for extreme heat, underscoring rising concerns about widespread power outages ahead of peak hurricane season. Experts have also said that extreme heat is a silent killer and can be a major contributing factor in the overall hurricane death toll. “If Miami experienced extreme heat at the same time, portions of our community would have no relief for what could be days or weeks,” Williams told CNN. Officials there are still navigating how to properly prepare for the rapidly changing extreme weather to avoid mass casualties.
