AdvertisementAs someone who's also been dating through whatever it is we've been doing romantically since 2020, I've noticed that my dating costs are going through the roof. How much should a date cost? For alcohol-free drinkers, the average price of a coffee is about $6 in New York City, which is comparable with other markets. Meanwhile, an informal 2022 report found that the average cost of a full body wax was $152, and Cosmopolitan reported in January that low-end forehead Botox would cost you $300. But even with the high up-front cost of dating, getting into a long-term relationship might pay off in the long run.

Reddit calls them logged-out users and, based on some industry estimates, they only monetize at about one-third the rate of logged-in users. The number of logged-out users surpassed logged-in users in the fourth quarter, and the gap has since widened. Logged-in users increased 31% in the second quarter to 42 million, while logged-out users increased at a much more robust rate of 74% to 49.2 million. Alan Gould, managing director at Loop Capital, said Google makes up "the vast majority of the logged-out users." By 2025, Reddit's logged-in users could represent an ARPU of $17.60 compared to $5.90 for logged-out users, Black said, based on the firm's estimates.

Read previewThe labor market is trending in the wrong direction, but it might not be time to sound the alarm just yet. The unemployment rate has risen for four consecutive months and at 4.3%, it's the highest it's been in nearly three years. However, there are some reasons it might be too soon to freak out about the labor market. AdvertisementSatyam Panday, chief US economist for S&P Global Ratings, said in a note published on August 6 that the slowing labor market appears to suggest a "normalization" of a previously red-hot labor market, rather than an "economy that's about to slip into a recession." The labor market might get worseTo be sure, there are plenty of reasons to remain concerned about the state of the labor market.

“You walk in, you say, ‘You want to quit?’ They go on strike,” Trump said of Musk, who is CEO of the EV car maker Tesla and SpaceX. It is illegal to fire workers who threaten to strike, because the right to strike is protected under federal labor law. “When we say Donald Trump is a scab, this is what we mean,” UAW President Shawn Fain said in a Tuesday statement on the new charges. A study on long Covid fails to bring researchers closer to finding a diagnostic test. Why there’s no test yet for long CovidAn estimated 17 million people have long Covid, but identifying people with the condition still can't be achieved with one diagnostic test, researchers said this week. So “clinicians are left to continue doing what we have done in the past,” which is to rule out other potential health conditions rather than diagnosing long Covid, they said. The study is part of the National Institute of Health’s RECOVER Initiative, a billion-dollar-plus effort launched in 2021 to research causes and treatments of long Covid. The Freedom Caucus added that in the event of a stopgap bill, funding should be “extended into early 2025” to avoid passing a funding bill that “preserves Democrat spending.” Both demands would spark a standoff with Democratic lawmakers.

Whatever other obstacles Mr. Trump and his campaign have faced, more voters have tended to trust him with the economy than the Biden-Harris ticket. According to at least one poll, though, voters’ attitudes may have changed. In a new survey conducted for The Financial Times, by a single point, Vice President Kamala Harris edges out Mr. Trump on the question of who voters trust more to handle the economy. But Ms. Harris’s slight edge on the economy in that Financial Times poll exists in the context of the numbers that came before it. To see the shift from Mr. Trump winning on the top issue to it being a jump ball will be an eye-opening finding if it is replicated in other polls.

Well-being and cognitive declineMore research is needed due to the lack of diversity in this study, which also includes the fact that participants were volunteers from communities with higher levels of education, the study authors said. It’s possible that poor well-being may lead to cognitive impairment and vice versa. On one hand, greater well-being may lower risk for cognitive impairment and dementia by mitigating the effects of Alzheimer’s disease processes on cognition, the authors said. Positive well-being has been associated with lower levels of inflammatory cytokines and lower cardiovascular risk, which can reduce risk of cognitive impairments. Compared with participants who remained cognitively intact, those who developed cognitive impairment were more likely to be older and have lower body mass index (BMI) and lower psychological well-being.
